      Is that even a question? Lol I am in the house of new vegas is better than fo3 but new vegas couldn't exist without f03. Also fo3 is bot a bad game because NV is better it is still a phenomenal game but with NV taking everything great Bethesda did for the series NV was much closer to original lore of the ip which as a lore nerd makes me biased to NV. But the best version is on pc with the tale of two wastelands mod which combines both games as one in a sense with the ability for same character across both travel between both in same playthrough plus more

      @@Guyinthetie Yeah if you like the roleplaying, making story-affecting choices and building a unique character with their own flavor based on what you choose, the original FO games are some of the best out there (though they do admittedly run into the old-ass CRPG issue of having way too many downright awful dump skills to trick you into taking at character creation). My biggest complaint today with FO3 isn't even the litany of worldbuilding or writing consistency issues that it has, it's that it took a heavy RPG series and made it arguably not one at all (I always refer to FO3 as an open world looter shooter with RPG elements as opposed to any kind of RPG, and it's arguably one of the first big games to shift what people's idea of the RPG genre is to its modern version, i.e. making it more about the mechanical leveling aspects and looting than the heavy narrative focus the genre had back in the 90s and early aughts).

      @@Guyinthetie Compared to the first two, Fallout 3 is like some shallow, Fallout-themed amusement park - a childish mimicry of surface-level aesthetics with no understanding beyond that. I freely admit that it was very entertaining to play, but as a Fallout game it's as though someone just re-skinned a generic fps with stuff that "looks" like Fallout.
      Anyway, I realize there's a generational gap that heavily affects one's perception. If, like me, you grew up playing the first two games years before 3 even existed, then FO3 is "that weird new one made by a different studio" and a huge departure from what your impression of "a Fallout game" is. Meanwhile, if you made the mistake of being born later and started with FO3 when it was contemporary, _that's_ your first impression; your "OG" Fallout and baseline concept of what "a Fallout game" is. It's like someone who's entire understanding of the Star Wars universe is informed by the prequels, because they never watched the original trilogy and it never even occurred to them to do so.

      @reredrumuoy Месяц назад

      @@heinrichagrippa5681 Nah man, my first Fallout game was Fallout 3, but I can definitely see how it is shallow in comparison to the first two games and NV. Just because someone is born later and experienced Fo3 first, doesn't mean they cant see how it feels bare bones in comparison. The only thing it does is create a feeling of nostalgia that enhances the quality of the experience. Bethesda Fallout games have gotten progressively worse since 3. At least Bethesda was still faithful to the RPG systems of the original games, the special, skills and perk system. Even if a perk at every level is a bit too much, it's still better than the boring perk tree we got in the Fourth game.

    Now that I think about it, the Fallout 3 Karma system makes a little more sense than we're led to believe. Thanks to 3-Dog reporting on events and literally giving us our Karma titles at each level. "Karma" is actually more of a proto-reputation system. And it makes sense it really only affects how cooperative certain groups are in the wasteland. That and like 2 perks but that's just a bonus. It just needed some tweaking to which actions actually affect Karma and to what extent.

    Ok so I just got through my first playthrough of fallout 3. I loved everything about this game, the main missions were where I had the most fun tbh. At first I didn't have anything else to play, so I was like screw it I'll finally give fallout a try. I was never able to finish fallout four, I always got too bored. HOWEVER. fallout three kept me interested throughout everything. The moment I realized hey I might like this game, was when I was going to the gnr news building, or wherever three dogs was, and A GIANT MUTANT CRASHES OUT OF NOWHERE. Ever since that point I was hooked. Seeing a giant robot throw a nuke like a football was a huge trip for me, couldn't stop laughing, I mean I could go all day talking about this game. The only boring part I remember was saving up caps to help those trapped kids. And yea I chose to walk with the dad and that was a mistake. Dude wanted to fight everything. But that's all my complaints about the game. The movement is ofc clunky but I rlly think its just bc it's an old game. But it's so in depth WITH SO MANY THINGS. Everyone tried to tell me fallout three was the worst, but tbh I think fallout 4 is. I can't even get through that game, maybe make it to diamond city then dip. Mods are fun though.

    Yes! New Vegas fans will always hate it, but NV couldn’t exist without 3. And honestly 3 was a blast, I always enjoy replaying it. The wasteland is just so fun to explore, and the random events really help that

      Disagree *strongly* In a world where the New Vegas IP didn't get scooped up by Bethesda, there is a real chance it could have been bought by Obsidian (they were also interested in buying it when it went for sale but didn't have Bethesda's money). In which case we could have gotten actual Fallout Fan Buren, aka New Vegas but not in a dogshite engine. The FO3 and Creation engines haven't even been that important for the creation of new original content in the game worlds; when you're talking about fangames or original games made with the engine, there's about as many FO2/Tactics engine projects as there are Gamebryo/Creation ones for the Fallout series.
      FO3's existence as a fun wacky wasteland romp perfectly justifies itself in a vacuum IMO, but Bethesda will have always killed what the actual FO series is and that will always suck. I'd say "why didn't they just make their own original post-apocalyptic IP, given how few people who got introduced with FO3 actually played the originals it probably wouldn't have hurt the success" but now we've seen how bad Bethesda is if they try and make a new IP these days with Starfield.

      @ACoolPseudonym 2 месяца назад +6

      @@benbarada2882 3 is fine and I don't hate it but it could've been better by a mile. Then NV came out and fixed a lot of the issues with 3. Cut to FO4 and they walked back like 90% of what made both games good. 3 is an RPG with shooter elements.
      New Vegas is a heavier RPG with shooter mechanics.
      4 is a shooter with some RPG mechanics. New Vegas isn't without its flaws but obsidian made it in 18 months. Why then is NV just better in a lot of ways? It's not hate it's valid criticism that's just written off as hate.

    What people don't seem to realise is, the engine ALWAYS throws the dice, even without VATS.
    Every action is an expression of the throw of the dice in most RPGs even if they are real time unless the damage is fixed and the outcome is baked in. This is because when they made the first RPGs they modeled them after tabletop ones, which involved a dice throw with every move.

I still think I like New Vegas best. I've had so many hours and so much fun with that game over the years. I have all three of these on Steam and I have sunk a bunch of hours into Fallout 3. I have not sunk a bunch of hours into Fallout 4 because it always ran like crap. I haven't tried it on my newer ryzen 7 with 3070 TI system.
    Fallout 3 is really fun! I played this on Xbox 360 the first time. About 15 years ago. Regarding Liam Neeson. His star status had faded by around 2007. Remember, it was the Taken movie series that vaulted him into more popularity than he ever has, and all the movies of the last 15 years. So getting him to voice this was probably not as hard as you think. Thanks for the video!

    People always hate on mothership zeta....I don't get it, it's probably my favourite dlc in the game, it's a great contrast the the wasteland, and exploring parts of the ship can be wacky, and finding out more about what the aliens are doing with humanity in the lore. It's the best dlc in terms of loot since the alien weapons are some of the best in the game, even in terms of valve. I see why people dislije the dlc, but I find it pretty fun just for the novelty of aliens and being on a spaceship, exploring can lead to some cool references and loot to find too, or how all the characters literally have nothing left, their friends/family being nothing but mere experiments for the zatans.
    like Sally's sister for example, you can find a chilling audio log that eludes to the zatans turning her into an Abomination (those half human zatan things) or Elliot, a US army medic who's squad was also abducted, later in the cryo lab section you can find them already dead and gruesomely being experimented on, some even frozen in pods with god knows what stuck inside them, giving you a choice what to do with them.
    The world building in the dlc, the setting is really cool... but if you don't care about any of that, than I get why people don't like it, because you kinda have to go out of your way to find all the wacky shit. 😅

    Recently replayed Fallout 3 via the Tale of Two Wastelands mod, the newer mechanics from New Vegas didn't save it. I think the main problem with Fallout 3 is the lack depth in it's quests, most of the quests were very localised. the only real exception to this was the wasteland survival guide, which had you going all over the place. A lot of locations you find are just bare bones dungeons with maybe a skill book. Which is a shame because I like the east coast setting.

    I played Fallout 1 & 2 when I heard that a Fallout 3 would be happening. They were interesting. Fallout 3 was okay. Felt glad it was in a new location. I was disappointed with 4 because it felt really repetitive. Fallout 3 will always be my all time favourite game ever. I’ve been gaming since I was 3 in 1997 ps1 lol. Played so many games, but nothing came close to this. Leaving the Vault for the very first time knowing nothing about Fallout was a very very special moment in gaming for me, I played FO3 so much it became my life 😂 what a fantastic game. It has the best atmosphere ever. Unfortantely we’ll never see a Fallout styled like this ever again. I love the janky graphics and static dialogue. The karma system made more sense than NV too. Most people prefer NV but it isn’t a patch on FO3 for me.

    I don't know if you were there for Fallout 3, but it was revolutionary. Fallout 3 was groundbreaking because of how you could play the game in comparison to the other fallout stories. Judging it today isn't fair other than it has soul, maybe not the most stable or pretty game, but I've always gone with the though this is normal, and bethesda raised me the same with activision but owwell on them. This game story, along with DLC, was great and only matched and succeeded by Obsidian out fallouting Bethesda.

    I'd argue that people don't hate FO3 more these days, moreso it's more obvious in retrospect, now that we've had a lot more big AAA RPGs with good worldbuilding and consistent writing, that FO3 has more issues than it does anything else wrt making a believable, player choice driven world. Like, FO3 is contemporary with big games in other genres that don't pay any attention to story or making narrative choices or really any of the story-focused elements RPGs are known for, so in comparison to them it seemed amazing at the time. But compared to the good Bioware games within the last decade or so, most of Obsidian's games, Baldur's Gate 3, etc. it comes across really shallow and poorly-written/designed in comparison.
    FO3 is still a fantastic turn your brain off and enjoy shooting big dumb mutants with funny laser weapons style of game, but if you criticize it on any deeper level than that then it's nothing but flawed writing and really limp mechanical choices. I.e. karma is such an underbaked system and so nonsensical what with everyone psychically knowing if you killed people or stole some stuff. Bethesda as a developer is just incapable of making deep systems in their games, as we see them do the same thing with their version of the faction reputation system in FO4, even though they could have literally just copied how Obsidian did it in New Vegas and been better.

    27:49 Bethesda... fuck you! If you just wanted to rip everything from the first two games, why not just remake Fallout and Fallout 2 in 3D? I hate the story of this game.

      My issue with the NV base is that utter hatred they seem to have for FO3 💪🏻👔

    • @The_Roosta
      @The_Roosta 2 месяца назад

      @Guyinthetie yeah that's why I didn't like them. I loved Fo3 and once I played NV I realized why everyone loved it so much. In hindsight, the story, your dad killing himself and then not being able to send Fawkes or Charon in there "just because" is really weak writing but it's still amazing and one of my favorite games of all time. Got a thousand hours across 3 and NV I bet.
