The reason his son was acting as bat boy during this time was to allow him to be around his dad as much as possible. Dusty didn't know if he was going to beat cancer or not. After this incident they did raise the age for bat boys to 14+.
That's completely correct. What happened was an accident.
such an underrated comment & I wish more people knew this. 💪🏽
How old was the kid
lmw 02 3 years old.
I thought 10 would've been old enough. Oh well. Bat boys are usually local prospects now a days.
Who is here after Darren's MLB debut? This Cardinals fan is so happy for Dusty and Darren Baker, a great baseball family.
Here!!
Si, buscando lo sucedido en ese momento,
The way he runs off in that oversized shirt is the most adorable thing I've seen all month.
Hahaha! I still go to this when I am in need of a smile honestly! One of the most precious moments in baseball history
Check out him giving the lineup card to his dad. He is in the bigs now.
@@martincalder5939 When I saw the story about him giving the lineup card to Dusty, my reaction was "Well that's just an adorable story HEY WAIT A MINUTE."
what was it the prior month?
JT says whenever he goes grocery shopping mothers still approach him to this day to say what an amazing job he did
This made them change the age for bat boys.
Ok
They have to at least be out of diapers since that near incident
Hey M..... soccer is for beta boys like yourself. Take that mess to another thread. Baseball isn’t a flippers game like soccer. The acting jobs them weaklings perform when they get bumped in soccer is laughable. What a joke
Hala Madrid
@M who asked
I love the slide in to get the bat before the older kid does. Fantastic work by JT to have the presence of mind to grab him before he got bulldozed by anyone.
JT never stopped being an Angel
J.T. Snow had a four-year old kid of his own, so he knew how to grab a hold of one. As for Dusty Baker, after the game was over, he got one of those "I told you so" calls from his mother.
Ah mom!
When I saw Snow pull little Baker, I instantly thought “those are dad reflexes.” Anyone who’s a dad has had to do the same thing before lol
@@DexterHeisenbergBruh the only way that could have went better is if J. T. Snow gave him a dad kiss on the forehead. That's what dad's do
Four year olds are tough. Mine fell so many times I grabbed him by the ankle, the arm, neck, waist etc and he thought it was the funniest thing in the universe. Lol
@@DexterHeisenbergBruhAs soon as I saw him scoop him I thought.. "yep, that's a dad right there."
He’s a major leaguer now. Congrats, kid!
Welcome to the MLB, Darren Baker, best of luck to you with the Nationals
I luv the umpire's reaction when JT scooped up Darren. He almost does a double take. "Where did that kid come from?!"
Actually, where did he come from?
Joey P Dusty Baker.
@@joepaulo5653 He was acting as one of the batboys for the Giants. They ended up raising the minimum age for batboys after this incident though.
Darren just signed to play baseball for CAL. Time flies...
He was named preseason All-pac 12, recently
@MANCHESTER UNITED Baseball is a team sport. Only as strong as the weakest link. Players prop up the team and pull for each other. It's a shame more people choose not to learn this skill.
MANCHESTER UNITED F.C you arent that smart considering there aren’t even 200 countries in the world
@@andrewritchie1061 There's currently 208 nations.
@M Why comment something divisive and demeaning like this. Baseball is amazing, soccer/football is amazing. Be grateful and happy we get to enjoy it all!!
And today Darren Baker plays college baseball at Cal and JT Snow announces his games for the Pac-12 Network.
Circle of life baby
and today, he has his first major league hit
he reacted to the kid before he even got to the plate and still scored while grabbing him. human instinct and baseball instinct at the same time
He was just drafted by the Nats in the 10th round.
I remember watching this live and thinking, "holy cow, that was some quick thinking".
Ditto.
Who else here from that insta post
Who's here after seeing the video of him and his dad exchanging lineups today?
Me!!
@@JerichaG92 me too I was looking for this clip
mee
we just drafted him… man time flies
He’s making his major league debut…man time flies
MLB changed their policy after that to 14 years old minimum. I'm no Dusty Baker fan by any stretch but you can't really call him a moron or accuse him of child endangerment, I'm mean really give me a break,
Plus, Baker had had a cancer operation the year before he made his son a batboy. He wanted to spend as much time with his son as he could because he wasn't sure how long he had.
Powerranger6342 now his son plays in his organization
redsoxfan997 no he doesn't
what is lost in all this is darren was too into the job. the bat he was going for was his favorite player's, kenny lofton. he wanted to retrieve it and he was willing to take a bump for it haha.
@truth2masses truthatlast The only thing I have against Dusty Baker is that he is literally the worst MLB manager in the history of the game.
Darren Baker has just been promoted to the Nationals MLB roster; takes effect tomorrow, when teams can add another pitcher and position player. Would be nice to see JT Snow at the game.
Haha, the best part is he picks up the helmet and still goes to get the bat
His dad prolly told him to never go out on the field when the game is on without his helmet. So as he's going for that bat without his helmet, he's prolly hearing his dad's voice in his head to go get his helmet, lol.
SAFETY FIRST
One of the greatest plays of JT Snow’s career and he had a pretty solid career
absolutely. it's funny that this is what he is most well known for despite hitting really well in that world series. but hey, he prevented what could have been a really bad accident
And that guy was a 6 time gold glove winner
And 20 years later he hit a grandslam (spring training) vs his dad
You beat me too it! I was dying to throw that comment in.
Darren Baker goes to my school and I know him well. Getting close there DB lol
Sept 1st 2024 (today) Darren Baker gets his 1st MLB hit
What I love about this play more than anything is that as he was coming home, you could see that it was almost an afterthought whether or not Mr. Snow touched home plate. His sole focus was on protecting young Mr. Baker. While the game was of tremendous importance, ensuring the safety of a child was of even greater significance.
Yeah, I feel like he saw the kid at 0:09, and knew exactly what would or could happen as he was running towards the plate, and his first concern was making sure that the kid was okay. Then you see on the replay at 0:35 He doesn't even give a second thought to going back and making sure his foot touched the plate. His priority is getting a secure hold on the the kid and getting him out of danger in case there is a play at the plate. He would never forgive himself if that kid got severely injured because he was more focused on a run scoring than getting that kid away from the action.
What's crazy is that bat boy, dusty bakers son is now a prospect for the nationals
He actually got his first hit playing against his father
Came here after the video of Dusty baker and his son lol
Bud Selig was absolutely right to raise the batboy age: Darren Baker was lucky he didn't get plowed over.
someone else mentioned here that Darren was around b/c Dusty wasn't sure if he was going to survive the cancer diagnosis so he wanted his son to be around him as much as possible
but yeah absolutely no brainer to raise the batboy age
Darren Baker graduated high school this week. I'm old AF
He's now (as of March 2019) a sophomore infielder for the Cal Bears. They' ll be in Baton Rouge this weekend to play LSU.
Its 2021..DArren Baker is the least of this country’s worries with stolen election afoot and no one wants to do a damn thing. The republic has been cheated.
Anybody else here after seeing Dusty and Darren present their lineups together in spring training? Time sure flies
I just watched that too. So awesome, especially after watching this
Who's here cause that boy just got his 1st hit in Major League Baseball?
Darren Baker got his 1st big league hit today with the Nationals. How time flies.
after this, the commissioner had to tell Dusty "your son has to now wait another 10 years to be a bat boy". Still really cute.
Dad reflexes
JT Snow was underrated Giant. Was great defensively, solid offensive and nice dude. Was a great glue guy.
JT Snow, great player, great human being. Respect
I bet Dusty thanked JT a ton that evening! Hell, he probably bought him a steak too!! lol
Anybody else watching this after he made that behind the back sliding play?
Darren Baker was drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 10th round of the MLB Draft
He's a grown young man now, but he will never live this down. Congratulations on being drafted. I hope you have a great career.
Who’s here after Darren just got drafted lol
I miss JT. I hope he is well. Contacts to Darren, got his first big league hit today. Time flies 😢
Was just listening to Brett Boone podcast - he has JT as guest - good show!
A couple years later he did the 7th inning stretch at Wrigley, perfectly, including " let's get some runs!" I just found out he got drafted, best of luck, kid!!!
Congrats to Darren bake who was signed by the Nationals in the 10th round ❤️
If that would have happened in 2022 it would’ve been investigated as a hate crime. Did you see how how JT grabbed close to his neck? 😒 only making a point,,, good save JT
And now Darren is about to make his MLB debut
Anyone here because they just saw Darren’s major league debut in the Spring training game handing lineup card to his dad? I immediately remembered this, and had to look back.
Adam Laroache....
+Sean Moomey yep
I'm aware.
That young Darren Baker is now 25 and just got called up to The Majors by The Nationals.
That kid is currently playing for Rochester, the Nationals' AAA team.
Now he is being called up by the Washington Nationals 22 years later! Where does the time go!!??
Now he’s battling against his pops in the majors!! Time flies……..
JT Snow I will always love you for this. I remember watching this live!
I was at this game, though I missed what happened at the plate as it happened. I think most people did.
Darren was just called up from the minors to play for the Washington National.
This was when small children worked in the dangerous factories...and MLB ball parks.
Now he just got drafted
Did he really? If so that would be awesome, as the same year as this I was at an expos' game, and 4 year old Vlad Guerrero JR was on the field during warmups. We are all getting OLD. :)
27th round?
@@Tarheel13 I think so, he decided to go to college instead though
this kid can slide, meanwhile NFL rookie QB's.... lol
Saw it live on TV & I was screaming at JT "Lookout!!!"😵
Thank the Good Lord there was no play at the plate 😊🙏
With that said, I love that kid, no fear at all in him, was actually patting JT on the back, tell'n him he was ok! 😂 Most children his age would have been frightened & crying, because JT snatched um up.
Outstanding job of being a great human being by JT Snow 💪😊
And now that same toddler just got drafted by the Nationals....man, I'm old.
Now playing 2B for Rochester Red Wings.
AAANNNDD now the Nationals just drafted him in the 27th round (Darren Baker)
JT Snow did not touch the bag. He is out!!!!
God bless J.T. Snow. That kid could've been seriously hurt. Imagine a 200 Lb man running full throttle into a little toddler on live television. MLB would've had some serious splainin to do.
Yeah blame the baby even though his father was there
That kid is getting called up this weekend. Time flies.
The closer might’ve won the game, but JT Snow got the greatest save that night.
Just singled on the first pitch he saw in the majors
That's the cutest little kid I've ever seen!
who’s here after he just got drafted by the nats?
Always said JT Snow had great hands. 😊
He made sure he got that back from the other bad boy
this kid just got drafted
Congratulations Darren on graduating HS.
And now he’s been drafted by the Nats after graduating from Cal - Berkeley. Congrats again!
And thet are going to throw the first ball today (10/26/2014) before the 5th game of the 2014 World Series.
Today he was drafted by the Nationals.
He was SO cute ^^
Who’s here after he got drafted
22 years later, the kid made the majors.
kids gonna get drafted wow
Had to rewatch this after seeing what happened yesterday with Darren and dusty at home plate.
First hit for Darren, Lets Go! 💪
dont think snow ever touched home plate
You could tell both the Angels catcher and the home plate ump had their eye on the kid and likely would've protected him had Snow decided to just run past him. Still, a great move to clear him from harms way with a live play still ongoing. Kid probably should've been reminded not to run out until the play is over. Too much excitement I guess!
Not to much excitement, too less age.
I played little league all the way into high school. I played every position except the pitcher. I started out at short stop/3rd base. But, JT Snow is who made me want to play first base. I loved this guy. He was a stud! 💪
Darren Baker is a Big Leaguer now!!
way 2 young 2 be out there!!!!
You're never to young to almost die
True enough. Mistake all the way around. Except for Snow. Heroics there.
he was, but Dusty wasnt sure he was gonna beat cancer, so he wantd to be around his kid as much as possible.
@@johnnykh89 perhaps Baker should have different priorities.
I still get teary eyed watching this because there's NO WAY that child would have survived getting hit at FULL SPEED by an adult male... no way. #JTSnowWasMyHeroOnThisDay. And I wonder what that little guy is up to these days:-)
well he's about 13 years older now haha
I know you posted this a year ago, but the runners were not going full speed. They were jogging (scoring from second on a double is not difficult) and they saw that the kid was there. You could see them look at him
Keegar11 But JT snow did not know if the runner behind him was watching the throw or not he had his back to him. So in JTs mind the guy behind him is going hard and Darren was about knee height so a grown mans knew going into his face would crack it right open.
JT is a great guy, and addressed an exigent situation. FYI: Even Dusty's mother yelled at him for leaving Darren so vulnerable. F = M x A. Even a jogging grown man would have done terrible damage. Full-speed would have been catastrophic. That's the darnedest thing I have ever seen in a baseball game.
He was just drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 27th round this year.
Watching Mets - Nationals spring training game and Dusty's soon Darren was up to bat (for the Nats). So, i had to jump on here to see if this was the same kid. And it IS!!
Heartwarming moment, but it could have turned out a lot differently, and we'd be having an entirely different conversation. Thanks to Mr. Snow!
Can anyone explain what was happening what COULD have happened if he wasn't pulled away like that?
Genuine question lol, sorry. 😅🙈
Just thought of this moment right now. Todays date is 4/1/24. 22 years later and i thought of it. 😅😅 that little boy isn't little anymore.
I watched this right after watching him take an at-bat for Rochester. Time, man!
It's been 20-years on this emotional day..... Dusty Jr. will remember this one
Word has it Dusty’s mom called him after the game and ripped him a new one
Catcher wanted help as well! when we're not fighting over bs , humans are amazing!❤️
he made the big leagues!!
What on earth were people thinking letting a child of that age retrieve bats in a major league game?? 😂😂😂
Now 19 years later, Dusty takes the Astros to the WS
And now he's getting called up tomorrow! MLB famous since 2002 lol
Wanna know something, that little kid, he's currently a prospect in the Nationals organization
