I think that Pink Gold Peach, Metal Mario, Cat Peach, Tanooki Mario, etc, should be alts also. That would give more space for more new characters in the slot.
that would look ugly if you didn't have the dlc and also who could really fill the slots currently occupied by the furries and metals

i can see cat peach and tanooki mario being alts but metal mario and pink gold peach are different weights so im not sure they would be considered alts

I'm super excited to see what new characters they bring over! My hope is that each wave will have two characters, with the final wave possibly having a 3rd surprise one to fill in the character select screen to be 7x7.

Agreed, I've been rooting for Kamek/Magikoopa in Mario Kart since I saw the old Mario Kart 64 beta screenshots (I believe it was called Super Mario Kart R at the time). Was so happy to see him in Tour and I hope that carries over into MK8!
On a related note, I think it would've been perfect to add two new characters for the rest of the waves (to even out the fact that we didn't get any in the first 3 waves), and it should've been Birdo and Kamek to match with Yoshi's Island! As much as I love Birdo, she's never even been in a Yoshi's Island game before.

I’m calling that kamek is being shadow dropped alongside the new yoshi course because one, kamek was planned for mk8 and he plays a huge role in the yoshi series
Since they’re adding something else into MK8 Deluxe besides just the tracks, I want to see other stuff like character special items and mission mode making a return

I would love if they added some new items too, especially porting over the "special character items" like the ones in double dash, Hearts, Yoshi/Birdo egg, Bowser Shell, Big Banana, Triple Bob-ombs, Triple Banana's, etc.

Personally I’m hoping to see more online modes. Online Grand Prix, an elimination mode, a better ranking system, in-game events (like splatfests)
I loved the elimination mode for battle modes in the past
Yeah I had an elimination mode and a cool time trial mode in that concept trailer I talked about
Petey Piranha was in Double Dash, but yeah him being in tour would help
I want them to add Toad colors, since Yoshi's and Shy Guy's have color options, especially since Toad's are technically "species" like yoshi's and shy guys
I really want to see Diddy Kong, Funky Kong, Nabbit, Goomba, Spike, Petey Piranha, & Pauline, especially her because I want to see her biker suit. I think it will be white, with her gloves, boots, & belt being maroon/dark red.

The Tour alts are great, but I'm not sure if we can count on them being added, since some of those would need to be given variants for bikes.
Alts like Mario Hakama, Thai Dress Daisy, Yukata Peach, Party Time Pauline etc. Would not be able to be used with bikes. (In fact, Pauline herself would need a biker outfit for when she is added)

Sadly, wave 4 is only having just one character being Birdo, that's it. Still, maybe more characters in waves 5 & 6. Diddy Kong, Funky Kong, Petey Piranha, Pauline, & Kamek are one of my picks for the BCP. It's possible for a character select screen update that the clone characters could get stacked with their original counterparts similar to Yoshi, Shy Guy, & now Birdo.

I think that they will change a few of the tracks when they are done with the pass like the coconut mall cars

If I had to predict the characters in the remaining 5 sports, I would say Pauline, Funky Kong, Diddy Kong, Petey Piranha, and a random option. But I hope they add more than 5 more
I know I can’t speak for everyone, but personaly I think it would be a super “funky” Idea to add funky kong to mario kart 8. Also put Paulenein te game to you could even add an option to chan her outfit from her classic dress to her buisness suit used in Odessey
I hope the next Mario Kart brings back every character and every track.
I think we'll be getting 4 character min incl. Birdo as that's as many free spaces you'd get if you rolled all the adult Mario and Peach variants into the one selection, and there's been some evidence in the code that they've done that in an internal build.
Fun Fact: There is already over septillion characters in MK8D. (including every possible mii character)

I have a question are we going to get more karts in Mario kart 8?
There was a glitch, hinting that Tanooki Mario, Pink Gold Peach, Cat Peach, and Gold Mario would be reduced to dropdowns for Peach and Mario. We can safely assume the same thing for Villager and Inkling, leaving us with 6 opened spots.
Really? That sounds great. Leaves room for original characters and not having as many alts take up the roster spots too.

Me personally I really want kingbob-om. Or wiggler because he's cool. The way he was implemented in 7 was funny making him have 4 arms, people disliked him because he got in the game before waluigi but I really liked him and I'd love to see him come back.
I thought there was a leak during wave 2 when metal Mario and peach, and tanooki and cat Mario and peach where bugged. It’s possible that they were experimenting with making them alts, leaving more character room
Gold characters would be an awesome addition. Something like 1,000 coins collected with a specific character unlocks that characters gold form and pull add so much variety for online play.

since wave 4 added characters in the game, now we all speciate of what will be next characters for wave 5 & 6
Funky, Pauline, Ashley and kirby are the characters I think deserve a spot in mk8 and ect

I imagine what they’ll probably end up doing is making Tanooki Mario and Metal Mario simply Mario alts like the different colored Yoshi, Shy Guy, and Birdo options. Same goes for Cat Peach and Pink Gold Peach. That frees up 4 slots, one of which would be going to Birdo and leaving us 3 more.
If this is what ends up happening then I’d imagine we’d get one new character per DLC wave and then a final bonus character at the end of the whole thing.
If I’m not mistaken there was some datamined evidence in Wave 3 that supports this theory about making the extra characters for Peach and Mario simply alts but I don’t remember 100%

I think they'll eventually just add all the Tour-exclusive characters before Tour inevitably shuts down.
You forgot about Peachette which who is also in Mario Kart tour and I want her in the BCP.
In Wave 2 (I think) there was a bug where they broke Pink Gold Peach, Cat Peach, Tanooki Mario and the metal Marios, the game recognised them as alts for Mario and Peach, I'm worried we're only getting 4 new characters and they're making them alts to make new slots... Though if they're going to make more people into 1 slot, they can actually win A LOT of new slots! And the roster would look less dull! They could put Dry Bowser under Bowser, the villagers together, the inklings together, etc etc

My prediction:
7 new characters: diddy kong, birdo, petey piranha, funky kong, pauline, kamek (because of the mario movie) and then either hammer bro, king bombomb, monty mole or chargin chuck.
Toad and koopa troopa will get different skins.
Also each character will only be available if you've bought the pass but you will still need to do a task to unlock them.
I would like to see Tiny kong in this mario kart. Funky Kong, diddy Kong, ever dixie Kong appear in various Mario kart games, why not her ? What do you think Tiny kong in a Mario kart game ?

And the dlc for Mario kart 8 on Wii u was technically the last characters (Isabelle, link, tanooki Mario and cat peach)
maybe one of them is Captain Falcon, his car and his F-Zero scenario are already in the game, so he just needs to show up to be complete. Like Zelda and Animal Crossing

Nintendo never said that all of the tracks are going to be from pass games, they simple said "you might recognise some of the tracks added". Implying not all tracks are remasters or ports. While brand new characters would be cool, I just don't see that happening.

I agree since the Wave 4 trailer did confirmed that characters from PAST MARIO KART GAMES will be added in the last 2 waves And deconfirmed that NO NEW CHARACTERS WHICH should includes Tour characters will be in the pass.
I want to see kamek add because he was supposed to be in Mario Kart 64 and also because we already have Bowser, Bowser Jr, all of the koopalings, and even dry Bowser.
I don’t think gold characters would get alts as they’d fall into that metal character weight class, similar issue with captain toad probably being heavier than Toad
