impressive run by freshman katelyn tuohy!
she has overcome a lot for the past years, her recent races has been so phenomenal.. ncaa xc champions w her team, then she broke 3k american junior record, acc 5k championship win, and now a national runner-up honor! remember, she had a knee surgery coming in college, so much pressure coming in college as the best high school distance runner of all time, did not race much early last year but was still running extremely fast times and helped her team won ncaa xc championships, got re-injured ... hid an injury but now healthy and running so well! she has been working so hard! so happy for her!

These commentators know little about distance running, and they only talk about the few runners they know from the SEC championships (which they cover) or previous NCAA broadcasts. They’re aware of Notre Dame, BYU, SEC schools and that’s about it.

@@aaronrudolph1129 nc state literally just won ncaa cross country championships, and they have 3 runners in the 5000m race and 3 runners in the 3000m race, nc state runner won last year's 5000m outdoors, nc state has been dominating all year long, they defeated byu insanely in xc over 40 points, a clear domination
ofc they know nc state and what the team has accomplished yet they choose to not acknowledge and not talk about them, they have always been biased, the fact that the female commentator kept talking about wayment, chelengat and gregory as tuohy was out kicking them just says it all
nc state has the most following in female distance running scene, solely because they have the greatest high school distance runner on the team, katelyn tuohy.

Just rewatched the race. Yes, first mention of KT at 13.14. My favorites were "Wayment, Gregory, and Chelangat are the class of the field," the need to change "spark plugs" in 2022, and "this is where Chelangat can be dangerous and really hurt you" as Chelangat is passed by two runners. Seems like the commentator had a phone call with BYU coach and not NC State.

I don't know if Wayment could have run a better race. She held her place very well and when it came time she had all she needed left to finish in first. As good as this is it is not as good as her steeplechase win where she set the record. Chelangat is a heck of a runner but she may not like BYU too much as Orton beat her out in Cross Country. Having said that, what coach wouldn't want a runner like her on their team.

It's annoying to see announcers going on about particular runners, as if they know how the race will end up based on past performances. At least in this case the commentator's obsessions were in the hunt, but they should call the race that is actually going on instead of what they think (but can't know) will happen. If they did that, they wouldn't ignore the 2nd place finisher until 3/4ths of the race is over. It's fine to mention favorites early on, but then focus on what is actually happening in the race. Congrats to phenomenal runs by Wayment and Tuohy in particular. Given their experience and age disparities, I think Tuohy was the standout runner in the race.
