Very very good review and explanation of the difference levels. Deciding between the Cannondale Quick CX and the Trek Dual Sport. Don’t know what level yet, but you’ve helped me know I don’t need the 4.
Great video Chris! This is great info. I am riding a foldie now, like to have road bike but I think it makes sense for me to get a hybrid with suspension. My shoulders is taking a load of bumps and pots from country roads.
Hi Chris - I'm considering the FX Disc 3 or the Dual Sport 3. I’m coming from a 15 year old MTB Giant. I don’t really do heavy mountain biking anymore, as I am now usually riding with my 5 year old on pavement and the occasional fire road/light trail at state parks once a month. The every day use of the bike will be mostly on pavement. I’m thinking I could upgrade the tires on the FX if I startled doing more frequent gravel/trails, but I'm unsure if this is the route to go. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!
@@goodluckchrisclark Thanks for the reply! Would you say the FX Disc 3 with 35c or 38c would be a better all round bike than the Dual Sport 3 considering the carbon fork vs the so so front suspension the DS comes with? Or does the option of having suspension offset the value of the carbon fork? Cheers!
Definitely the suspension works better than just a tire upgrade for the off-road stuff, but going with the beefier tires is going to make a world of a difference and for the once a month you do a sketchy trail I think overall you'd prefer the speed and feel the FX around town and on the paved and gravel.
I like the DS options, but should I go with Verve? I used to have a road bike, but that was a death sentence in Miami. I have an old school mountain bike, which is brutal to just ride on the street. I need it now for 'family style' hauling the kids, riding nice on the street, being comfortable so my a$$ doesn't hurt. Do you think DS w/ lockout is better than a Verve ? Also will I truly know the difference from Mechanical Disc vs Hydro disc?
I just put dow a deposit for the 3 (reduced to £675). I was thinking about the Boardman 8.8 mtx (£725). Did I make the right choice for mostly street / leisure riding?
Hi, I need some advice. I can buy a trek duals sport 4 2019 model from a neighbor for 600 euro’s. He almost did not ride it, looks brand new, without any scratch. Do you think it’s a good price for it? Is the 2019 model still good in 2022 or is it already oldschool. 😉👍 thanks
@@goodluckchrisclark thanks alot, I bought the 2019 model from my neighbor. I think I did a good deal. The bike was brand new, he didn’t ride with it, not even a schratch. The bike is a beauty and I think it’s the perfect bike to drive to work. I also want to do some gravel routes with it. But The bike feels so light, I hope it’s up for the task.
Thanks Chris Great Review as usual Please did you recommend the DS series for 2021 or could be a better features for the 2022 series however do you advice for the DS 4 for the moment bike and further ?
Great explanation. Couple of questions 1. How would you rate a suspension fork vs a fixed fork like in Trek FX series ? 2. How do these dual sport compare against Giant Roam series ? Thanks in advance.
Suspension is great for rougher road but honestly is useless on clear clean roads. Round hear the Roads get pretty rough so the suspension really adds value. Giant Roam is a great option very similar, pricing is getting good because of Giant manufacture getting bigger
Ordered a Dual Sport 3 factory orange back in February down here in North Carolina. Original ship date was 6/21 but a month ago it got pushed back all the way to 10/11. Ugh. Is that about the same up where you are? Do you know if things will start getting better or is it probably going to stay the same through out the year?
I've been looking at the Dual sport 2 and 3 for my first bike but sadly I'm about 30 pounds over the weight limit. You have anything else with a higher limit?
Norco Scene may be a bit higher or the FX, but honestly if you are just riding gently around, i can't imagine 30lb would be too much. If you start jumping off curbs maybe but slowing before you drop off things or hit aggressive areas you'll be fine.
Great video, thanks for your explanation. I am looking for a bike to exercise and burn calories with around 2 hour runs approximately, i think my best bets are Dual Sport or FX Disc, do you think that is right? I won’t be going mountain biking but might go through some gravel. Also i am about 150cm tall and 63kg weight, do you think Small is the right size for me? Thank you

It's good for , comfort, longer ride, some trills ,small off roding.? What abut crank set, and rear derailleur alivio? Bro I am confuce between Trek ds3 vs Scott sub cross 30 model. What is ur opinion. Please help me choose. Thankyou again ❤️🔥🙏👍 Love ur video ❤️ beautiful review 👍❤️
Hey Chris! Which one would you recommend between Trek Dual Sport 3 and Merida Crossway 100? My main requirement is to go out on long weekend bike trips (with some off-roading) and also commute to work.
Hello Chris. Great, helpful video. I have just ordered a trek D.S 3. Was looking at buying the 4 but was a little put off by the gear drop. Have i made a silly decision? i used to have an ariel sport - specialized 2014. I absolutely loved everything about this bike. It was not internal routing and it was quite heavy. i do not know which is heavier. i am just looking for a bike to get my everywhere (roads and trails) but not quite as adventurous as needing an MB. do at least 25 miles a day. What do you reckon ? Thanks Chris, hope ur good! (I orered a giant fastroad sl 1. still got it but sending it back, so nice and speedy but just not that comfy!!!! had a sore back!!)
@@Gerald-iz7mv Nowhere by me, they'll take you're money now and tell you mid summer sometime, the giant dealer told me don't buy a bike unless it's sitting on the showroom floor, cuz when mid summer rolls around and they change it up to next spring you're just gonna be irritated, I got my hands on a fx3 last week and I'm looking at putting a different fork on it, then I'll have a dual sport 👍✌
@@goodluckchrisclark 2022 - no way? can i order a FX Sport 6 and add a fork - will that be the same as trek dual sport 4? can it fit a Bontrager GR1 Expert, Hard-Case Lite, wire bead, 60 tpi, 700x40c tire than?
I don’t hate them, it just a preference. I love that there’s the option, but personally, it would be very inconvenient if my DS4 came with tubeless tires. As it is, if I get a flat, I know exactly what needs to be done, how to do it myself and its cheap to replace.
Hey Chris, your video quality is awesome. Definitely an under rated pro reviewer. I have a question though. I pre ordered both Trek Dual Sport 1 which is expected around November and Norco XFR 3 which will be ready for pick up next week. The downsides of XFR 3 are a level lower rear derailleur and 700x50c fast rolling tire compared to Trek DS 1. Is it worth the wait for Dual Sport 1 or should I go with Norco XFR 3 as it is available much sooner. Thanks, in advance. Cheers
I'm just disaappointed with Trek. They just killed the DS4 by dropping the 2x10 gearing in favor of 1x11. For the sake of 1X bandwagon.the DS4 lost high gearing. DS4 ia not a MTB They chose to put the 1X11? DS4 is a legit competitor of gravel bike with just a tweak on the tires.
I'm a newb and this was the best, most thorough explanation I've seen yet. Thank you!!
Glad it was helpful!
I got the Dual Sport 2 and rode 10 miles yesterday and had a absolutely blast but i have a lot of flat roads around here.
Nice, hope the weather is great !

Thanks for watching, keep an eye on the cannondale for proprietary parts sometimes long term you get stuck finding replacements

I tested a DS2 and a Roam 4 and the DS felt way more effortless all thought they aren’t on par but that’s all I had to compare it too.
