I think you're entirely correct that getting unnaturally obsessed with one specific guy character is the key to improving at art. I got so obsessed with specifically Sans Undertale for several years and my art quality skyrocketed because of it. I think this should be dubbed "the guy" phenomenon.

The "Ethan withdrawal" thing was such a hard-hitting callout because I know exactly how that feels. With my aggressive hyperfixations on ULTRAKILL and Kirby if I do not draw them at least once a day (usually because my tablet is dead, I will be watching that thing like a hawk or using it the second it gets above 20% to fulfill my need) I will internally scream and wail from the lack of making doodles, and then aggressively consume fanart for the next few hours to fill the void in my heart.
