    I'm sorry Andy, but we'll need to have you pre-arrested after all that innuendo! 😂😂😂😂 But seriously, the video is very informative. When I studied electrical engineering at college in the early 1990s, the desoldering wick was my favourite "tool" for desoldering. One tip, if the desolder pump jams, you can use a straightened paper clip to clean the tip.

    Factories are not legally allowed to use lead in the solder which is why we hate desoldering switches from the factory so much. 63/37 tin/lead solder is the best with a rosin core and allows you to easily solder with a lower temperature easily.

      Exactly what I wanted to comment. If factories use leaded product, they would not be allowed to sell their products.

    I'm still at 5:23 of the video, but I want to say what really helped me with my desoldering is applying flux/soldering paste on each soldered pin before I do the sucker and iron method. It has not failed me thus far, and I have never had to resolder a failed suck in order to try again. Hope this helps someone out there who can't afford the big solder sucker gun.

    I say if you plan on being in the hobby for more than a couple boards. You NEED the FR-301. Thing literally is so easy to clean and won’t jam if you take care of it. It’s like a cast iron pan of desoldering.

    • @d-floe
      @d-floe 11 месяцев назад

      unless you desolder boards for a living, u dont need a 340 dollar solder sucker to have a decent experience. that money could go to better things imo

    • @MrSkullhead0
      @MrSkullhead0 11 месяцев назад

      @@d-floe you can find these brand new for 230 and on OfferUp for even cheaper sometimes. It’s a lot of money don’t get me wrong. But the time saved and potential to save my PCB by only desoldering 1 time makes it so worth it. But if you’re good at the solder sucker too by all means save some $$

    Reverse millmax solved the issue with the 0305 to make the switch sit flush on the pcb. I wish the 3305 was available back then when I soldered my Volcano660

    Using low melt solder makes the process extremely easy - adding low melt solder to a joint will create a solder alloy with a significantly lower melting point then regular leaded and unleaded solder, as well as staying liquid for a much longer period of time (3-5 seconds after removing the iron) giving plenty of time to use a pump/ wick with braid. I pretty much used only braid and low melt solder when I desoldered 2 keyboards for friends and it was easy... Also dont forget flux, you can never use too much flux as flux promotes nicer flow.

    I was afraid that the only "quality" way to desolder is with something powered vs one of the manual pump deals. I've already gone as far as getting a better soldering iron but maybe this is what my life is. Sometimes, solder wick doesn't get into the crevices.
