  • The Dirty 80 series Land Cruiser is going to need a winch because everything needs a winch, and the ARB bumper is the classic winch bumper of choice. I found a used one and hoped it would bolt on easily. It took a little more effort than expected.

    I think it looks great, used truck, used bumper, older winch, some frame tie ins for recovery points then some meats, and go find a trail!

    I personally would’ve tried to straighten that bumper out first, test fit, maybe even cut the damaged area apart to straighten it up & re-weld it ??? No matter what though a nice ARB bumper is worth saving and re using, the style is perfect for that Land Cruiser. Keep up the cool videos!!!

    Per the ARB instructions, you can either wire the bumper amber lights into your corner running lights or turn signal light. Your choice.

    Spreading that awareness for the classic and iconic ARB Bull Bar! Awesome!! I have had a kink for these bumpers for as long as i can remember. I've had them on multiple jeeps now and still pick them up used when the deals present themselves. I am often floored when i'm asked if i made the bumper myself OR they've never even heard of them. Great little install project to share

    Such a classic look! I was thrilled when I got my '99 Discovery 1 that the previous owner had put an ARB bull bar on it. The cost of the bumper alone was 50% of what I paid for the whole truck!

  • @notsoniceduck

    I had that same bar, it came off the poverty pack (no flares) 80 series and was most often paired with the high mount warn winch.
    I got my bar from a wrecking yard but it was tweaked too. I ended up selling it for a case of beer as no one wanted one back then.

    You can absolutely run a roller fairlead with synthetic winch cable, and it is preferred. The enemy of synthetic is friction which is reduced with a roller fairlead. The only caveat is if you're winching at extreme angles you could pinch the rope in the corners of the fairlead, but I'd say if you're at that crazy of an angle you need to rethink your rigging anyway. The only downside to a roller is how far it sticks out, which matters for some bumpers but not the ARB.

    • @lsswapped80
      @lsswapped80 Год назад +1

      Yup. I’m running a roller fair lead on my 80. I Lightly ran like 2000 grit sand paper to smooth out the rollers but good to go.

    FYI, I have the same bumper on my FJ62 and learned that’s those aren’t approved recovery points. I’ve seen posts from Aussies saying they have ripped those mounts out of their bumper trying to use them for vehicle recoveries. I’ve only used mine for yanking a downed tree off a trail. Love the Land Cruiser content!

    Interestingly, the Slee bumpers start at 8k and max at 9.5k. When my truck was full done with homemade drawer in back and fridge, Slee dual swing out with fuel and water and spare etc. i was at 7300. They get heavy fast.

  • @davidp130
    @davidp130 Год назад +2

    That's not a recovery point. It's just a place to hook your winch to. You're supposed to reuse factory tow hooks or (better) get some beefier ones.
    Otherwise. Love seeing land cruiser stuff on your Channel

    Those ARB bars are the best. Yours looks like it may have had the centre section modified to suit a Warn Hi Mount, which would look incredible, but might not suit to budget nature if this build. Those “recovery points” are just tie down points when the truck was on a ship and aren’t really suited to the potential shock loads when recovering 👍🏻
