- The FlatFender is almost alive. This 1946 Jeep CJ2A is slowly coming together and on today's episode I button up the fuel system with a fresh new gas tank and get it ready to start up with a turn of the key. Every week we're a little closer to driving this Jeep.
go here if you need a gas tank for your flatfender:

Thanks Fred. First start up on a project is one of the most joyful moments.
I could watch Fred wrench on flat fenders all day.
I’m glad you’re back on this project. I wish you did more videos like this. They are more enjoyable than installing aftermarket parts. Thanks
I put some heat wrap from Summit racing over the fuel line that runs from the pump to the carburetor on my 1952 Willy's to stop it from getting hot and vapor locking, worked like a charm!
Not too many things in this world cooler than a running Flatty,
Happy to hear Fred's flat fender running!
I had a 48 CJ-2A. Saw it in a horse pasture and asked the guy if he would sell it. I got it for $750.00. Got it home and after bypassing the fuel pump with a small electric and putting new plugs and a new battery the little go devil 4 cylinder fired right up. Never did anything else. That little jeep ran so good and fired up with only a small bump of the key. Miss that little Jeep. Really enjoy this project of yours Fred.
My m38 has a Chevy v8 it was vapor locking I ran the fuel lines and same filter with return. I restricted the return even more to raise fuel pressure used a Holley carburetor jet # 60 pushed it into the rubber return line works great never had a problem with vapor lock since. And thanks for the videos.
Enjoyable to watch bringing back an old Flat Fender! Would like to find one
The Magnet thing does work,i magnetized all my drain plugs to all my reservoirs on my older vehicles.
The threads on flare nuts are the same as normal fine thread bolts. If you have a set of fine thread dies, you can just chase the threads on the flare nut if you’re worried about them being too crusty.
First starts are so rewarding after days and days.
I know that feeling when the motor purrs again, good times !
i love it when the engine fires up for the first time & the guy doing the work geeks out. So cool!
Wow Fred awesome, it purrs like a kitten!
By far my second favorite show and a close second to the Dirt Head Shed! Thank you so much, both you and Dave, for continuing a better DIRT EVERY DAY.
I had to rewind to the intro. I was like wait, did he get a haircut in the next scene?😂
HA! I actually did! I was wondering if anyone would catch it.
You and Dave should try to upload your videos on opposing days then we can have Dirt Every Day actually! That would be awesome! Maybe split the videos up so then we have something to watch everyday
Great fun little project Fred, I’m about to build another CJ6 from a pile of parts. Watching your videos helps keeping me motivated to keep trying to find parts in Australia which is a challenge! Keep them coming ❤
More flat fender! Love it and the extended videos.
C'mon hurry up Fred I wanna see this thing drive !!!
Hadn't seen the brake clean in the fuel line idea before. I like it, thanks.
Fred, best thing on my tv tonight!!!!
The little jeep sounds awesome. Keep it up. Would love to drive the jeep around town.
Cool project. Will be great to see it run on the road.
Thats a Good little Trick with the Gas Filter..makes sence and is kinda Smart..should help out alot....with Vapor Lock..could use that on Other cars easily as Well....
Those 3 port filters are the same ones used.in the 70s and 80s, some on CJ5s and 7s to combat vapor lock
The sediment bowl goes on the bottom, flip it over. I have that on my '53 dodge pickup and my 8N Ford.
What a day to have Fred in the shed putting Flatty cred in my head.
19:20 Don’t you have crows feet somewhere, dude?
Thanks
C&C Equipment has aftermarket partsn everything for flatfenders.
I think the stock exhaust was on the other side…cross over and then to the back.
Im not a fan of the rubber return line, my buddies ford ranger burned to the ground because of a failed rubber fuel line
Great content as always. I really really need to find an old Willys Jeep.
Flat fenders rule!
Those little go devil engines while not fast they are tough little engines and will go forever with a little maintenance.
Love these videos. Watch that filter. I use them on 23hp birggs motors and have issues with them bypassing too much fuel. The usa made one is good. The chinese made one has a bigger bypass hole and is not so good.
When you were tightening your inverted flare fitting, you did some thing that the old timers taught me, but you did not mention it. The old timer mechanics, I learned from always said to only snug or loosen the nut with a combination wrench and then when it’s time to torque on it always use a flare nut wrench. Don’t damage your flare nut wrench by using it the whole time.
yes I did use it for the final tighten, the flare nut has seen better days, but so far no leaks
Fred, the Jeep is coming together nicely. Keep up the great work.
Love that it runs so well. And love the flat fender content. My 49 is a runner already but I am constantly playing with this or that. Keep up the content. Love to see how happy you are with the little steps of progress.
I wish the replacement tanks for my M38A1 were cheap. I got a real awakening when I priced those out. Could have used a CJ tank but I wanted the 17 gallons. I still haven't tried starting mine yet. They are fun little projects though. Can't wait till I can start mine.
Always love your videos, practical, and honesty 😊
Your one step closer 👍👍
Yay that sounds a sweet engine ... I'm hoping the return fuel line will get wrapped where it's fed through the chassis ( you know just next to the exhaust )
Happy to hear it purr 🐈
That sounds great! Congratulations!!
Nice job Fred!
Hey Fred! Nice flat fender project!
Nice one Fred ❤
Loving that little Jeep! Thanks Fred!
nice
Do you really want to run the fuel line so close to the exhaust. It can prematurely heat up the line, causing the fuel to vaporize in the line, causing vapor locking. There is also the fire hazard under your rear?
Loved my flatfenders! I am now working on 1st gen cj5's 59 and 62. Not sure which will be my driver and which is donor yet...
😮Fred, you should really try to not get brakekleen on your skin! We care about you bud❤.
There should be a fuel filter before the pump
yeah I considered that, but also got feed back that these pumps don't like pulling fuel through filters.
@@4xFredWilliams Fred, I used to have vapor lock ups on my 79 Ford Bronco with the 400m. So I added an electric pump at the tank to push the fuel to the mechanical fuel pump on the engine and on hot days it seems to have solved that problem.
Why not flex seal or rhiino line the floor? or something a long those lines.
when I was 10-13? I had a 41, it had lots and lots of issues, but once you got the starter to function, and fuel to it... thing was nearly unstoppable, even with a cracked head, used it to pull a skidder out of a swamp, and all sorts of misadventures.... like an idiot I sold it for $300 when I was 13... but that went to buy my first Guitar so? win?
I thought CJ2As had a split windshield.
this one is missing the swing out portion of he windshield.
Big big fan, one comment, please talk and work at the same time. Not that you talk too much you just do to little work.
Carbwebs
Fuel filter part number?
😮😊
👍👍😎
