After repairing all sorts of brands of vehicles, repairing Toyota/Lexus, things just make sense when you have to do the repair. Almost feels like I'm cheating.
I've learned that our fuel here in California is good for about 28-32 days before it turns to more junk than it was coming out of the pump. I usually use StarTron to help make it last longer but I still replace it or use it up within that time.
Of course there are a variety of great offroad vehicles, especially when built, but a solid axle landcruiser is without a doubt one of the most capable and reliable offroaders, from the factory!
I have a 1994 S10 Blazer, I run a full tank of Premium NON-ethanol fuel in it. My fuel pump in the tank went out in February in Wyoming. It was $600 to get it changed. The only non-ethanol fuel around here is Premium, BUT I drive very little, just to the store, Doctor appointments, that stuff, so 3 or 4 gallons a month. It was worth having it done at my favorite shop. I have known the owner for 20+ years. No cut rates, but they stand behind their work. Winter time is no fun working on a vehicle in Wyoming, I did it for decades...
Clean the fuel pump put a new sock on it.. , it’s a Toyota pump, or get one out of a newer Toyota, the aftermarket ones are not as quiet as the Toyota ones, remember this was the top of the line Toyota in 94 really high quality parts…. Might want to buy a Toyota head gasket kit now, just because. Have had 4 80’s own 2 now they are great rigs, once you get it running looks like you have a lot of preventative maintenance to do…. (Too bad it didn’t have cloth interior and lockers). Ohh have fun with the fuel filter under the intake it’s reusable just blow it backward with some carb cleaner…
Yo Fred! I built a battery charging station in my garage for all my projects. I have all my accumulated (various models/makes) tenders, chargers, and batteries now being put to use/maintained in a single compact spot. Now when I need a battery, they are all charged/maintained. Winter storage outside in a vehicle was also killing my batteries. Now I have a quick storage/maintenance solution keeping the batteries always at their peak. Also, if I need my Optima charger, I know where it is.
Thank you ethanol. I use fuel stabilizer in my Honda inverter generator as I hardly use it as well as drain the carb bowl during storage. I also used fuel stabilizer in my boat's gas tank (18 gallons) but with fuel injection, it was a much easier starting situation.
I came here to say similar. I only use non ethanol fuel in my older non daily driven vehicles. I’m lucky we can still get here but some don’t have a choice and have to use stabill
Fred, I have discovered myself that if you mix the pink and the green coolant you get a nasty brown coolant it works fine but it looks like you're head gasket is bad. It's bad enough that when the wife took it for an oil change, when I wasn't feeling well, she came home saying the shop had run tests on the engine because it must have a bad head gasket and after all the testing they were perplexed as to why the coolant looked so bad, by that time she was ready to come home and said " I'll have my husband figure it out when he is feeling better" .so she tells me all of this I replied remember the heater core is leaking and I was desperate and had to use the pink stuff from your Mustang well that's what happened and you just wasted a day and a ton of money and by the way how are the heads. She came back with o there fine, now flush out the radiator and fix the heater core, and of course I said yes mama. And just a bit of advice if you have a late90s f150 and your heater core goes bad have a professional fix it, it's a pain in the a$$. Having never done one myself I went to a junk to practice and I'm glad I did I wound up breaking so much of the dashboard bits and bobs I eventually just gave up and had a professional fix it
If somebody ran green freeze in this bad boy your pipes are clogged and your oil cooler is slammed with slime. Say hello to a new head gasket and head machining.
I bet it purrs like a normal truck does when it has 50k miles once you get that fuel pump in. All else equal, I’d much rather have an 80 series than the 200 series.
New fuel blends are junk. I buy Trufuel for my chainsaws, weedeaters, etc, they sit for weeks sometimes, and the fuel is still fine. A car can sit for a week and the gas turns to junk
Sorry mate but the 80s series doesn't break as easy as the 200 series even though I like all of them the 80 series is more reliable from my point of view
Thin the herd. Your stable is large. Concentrate on 2-3 reliable projects and invest the energy into rolling improvements and maintenance on that fleet. Then there's never a scramble for rig prep when adventure calls. "In the search for more, we often find it in less."
@@grahamgeiger3206 agreed on that. AK Army, Tug Truck, etc. The Summer Camp and UA Fun Buggy would have been gone before those two if they were in my garage. However, when sponsors throw parts at your projects, it's a huge profit to sell those vehicles. So I understand the reasoning. But I'm checking out if Tube Sock goes. Lol
Fzj80 is the pinnacle of the land cruiser lineup

Power probes are life! They make diagnosis of electrical issues so much easier and quicker.

That mid video shave had me scratching my head for a while. Couldn't put my finger on what looked different. Great video!
Fred is a straight legend!!! Love the Toyota content🤙
I've always wondered if old Toyotas would suit me as a four wheeler, so I appreciate you having a try at one, Fred!

Gotcha a spare fusible link to keep handy. They go out without warning. Also keep an eye on the pesky heater hose on the driver side of the block.
That diagnostic terminal is awesome
Dirty 80 ?. I think Fred has been watching a bit of 4WD 24/7.
True mate got it from the Dirty 30 ae
Great video!

After adding coolant, shave, then try starting the truck... LOL
🤣

Sempre curtindo seus vídeos direto do Brasil..
Gotta love the easy access door for the pump. Pull that thing out and replace it with a Walbro.
The coolant pour was most excellent.
90s fords let you jump the fuel pump like that as well, super handy
Great! 👌🤙
Those old Toyotas need you to hit the gas pedal during start sometimes, no joke. Tho that wont help with a bad fuel pump.
The mighty 1HD-T will solve everything 😍
Not sure if you are aware but Wits End is a great resource for parts and solutions for 80 series. Check them out
One other thing to check would be the regulator that switches the fuel feed from the main and sub tanks.
US spec Land Cruisers didn't have a sub tank.
@@Hawkmoon36 ah, I see. Makes it much easier to diagnose. Thanks for the correction 👍🏻
Fred RULES
Ironically things come in pairs or triples as far as doing mechanics
Happens often. Haha
Bigfoot hat is awes!!!
Were you keeping a camera under the hood ? lol
It's Fuel or Spark .. Internals are usually fine. There... Fixed. Lol.
High oil, low rad fluid... hope not a head gasket. 80 Series gas tanks have a fuel tank drain plug...
Nobody ever tries the fuel filter first.
ENGINE MASTER!
Fuel pump relay

The good old Ford has 197,000 on her!!!
Green is low mileage (75,000), red is long life....(150,000)
Disappearing beard!
