    Just subscribed. You definitely aren’t lying when you stated that there a no instruction videos on YT for the FJ80. Yours have great video and sound quality. Super easy to follow. Thanks for posting. I have a 91 FJ80 as well with 150K miles. I’ve just now started to work on her to get her up and running smoothly.

    Gday mate I have the 1994 Landcruiser GXL Petrol & Lpg wagon manual just done the adjustment and it had about an inch of free play and so did the manual throttle cable next to it.
    Very informative videos bloke it’s good to see you young fellas getting in and taking the time and researching your vehicles, I started in the 70’s and it has saved me thousands of dollars in repairs over many years.

    Very good pointers on a subject that usually goes unnoticed, because it's never a serious problem, but in the long run can cause sluggish acceleration. Even though I have a 99 4runner, this video helps, because we have similar parts. Thank you!

    Thanks bro...i just adjust mine and it works like magic. My 93 80 series 1fz-fe takes forever to shift gear, runs like a snake up hill and often dies/stall when in traffic jam. But after watching this, i did it and boom, it runs normal again. Now i don't have to put pressure on the speed pedal while in traffic jam to keep the engine from dying. Thanks alot and god bless you. (Subcribed)

  • @gonkinsmedia
    @gonkinsmedia 3 года назад +6

    Very true. Its hard to find 80 series videos. I do 0 to 60 in less than 10s.
    Adjust the kickdown cable like u did here
    Advance the distributor
    Take out the clutch fan and replace with spal fans that's got high cfm ( thank me later)
    You could also go the extra mile and put a fuel vapour container connected to a vacuum line to supply fuel vapour for extra power.
    Do these and watch ur truck get zippy. I do 0 to 60 in less than 10s and not even trying hard to push the engine above 3000rpm. With these mods I can go 5200rpm. Although I'm scared to push the limits or force power out the engine so I just go with normal auto gear switching at 1700rpm. Just try the experiment of stock fan to electrical fan swap then advance timing a bit you'll be surprised.
    You can also tune up to get amazing fuel economy. Adjusting your Air flow meter to lean. I go 17 to 18 mpgs at amazing speed. The leaning out of fuel is compensated with my vaporizer mod. Do a search on vapourkid or search on cars running on fuel vapour to get an idea
    The 3fe is a very easy to work on engine.

      @alighaus4127 3 года назад

      Will this work on the 2f?

    • @gonkinsmedia
      @gonkinsmedia 3 года назад

      @@alighaus4127 it certainly would. 2f is a carburettor 3fe. Just location a vacuum line. It's also advisable to loosen up the belt to steering and smog to reduce engine load. Gain alot of hp. The AFM (the sensor after the airfilter housing plays a major roles in leaning down fuel. If ur cruiser suffers has poor mpg. Adjusting the AFM to lean out is advisable there are videos on how to go about it. One of the greatest hacks on 3f-e is completely removing the EGR VALVE. You gain 1 or 2 mpgs by doing this.

    • @vasya6175
      @vasya6175 3 года назад

      Okay bro, in which direction should I turn the bolt on VAF sensor, clockwise or counterclockwise? I know if I open I get more voltage on OX or VF that mean lean. but if I close the 🔩 bolt, I get less voltage, that mean rich mixture

    You need to be careful with this. If you overtighten it it can prematurely kill your transmission due to pressure. I recently had to replace my kickdown cable and it doesn't have the little stopper so it's been trial and error for me. My old one literally snapped due to lack of lubrication. Recommendation for lubricating it is to shoot some tranny fluid where the cable enters the sleeve. It will lubricate on its way down.

    New subscriber today. great content on our wonderful Series 80.
    I've got a 1994 GXL 1FZ-FE running Petrol and LPG.
    Living in Melbourne Australia we get a lot of long travel distances, on my last trip up to Sydney she was feeling very sluggish. Not normal for her.
    After a lot of research as well on YT, I came to the same conclusion. Not to many videos on the 80's.
    So great stuff, i shall look into the cables at the weekend.

    hi - i have a '93 fzj80 as a daily driver since 1996 - i have no comment on the tranny cable, but as far as i know there is no external idle control on the fzj fe 80 engine - i believe the idle is set by the water temp on the idle control valve - adjusting the throttle cable is not a fix, it just masks the problem and when the cable stretches, you'll have the same issue - the idle control valve is different for 95-97 than prior - my toyota service dept has cleaned my idle control valve and that cleared up the problem for about 20k miles, then it came back - i looked at replacement idle control valves and chinese crap is cheap, but authentic japanese valves are very pricey - i've had great luck with my landcruiser maintained at the dealer, and i suggest you check with a toyota mechanic who is trained on old landcruisers before making this adjustment - i'm not a mechanic - i'm just relaying what i've been told by experienced toyota landcruiser mechanics

    An explanation of why this works,It changes the ratio of the throttle position sensor reading and the air that is moving though the throttle body flap that the computer receives from (MAP & MAF sensors) to adjust timing by the means of fuel injector pulse width and the spark pulse timing to the spark plugs.I done this in the past on a FJZ80 4.5L and a 3Vze 3.0L and the timing does change in a close loop mode after the throttle cable is moved.

    Cleaning trottle body should also make improvement especially if it wasnt cleaned for years and checking all vacum lines. On stock should be 15sec as always. Any change of tires changes the drive train ratio so...it was to expect that slow with those tires on.

    I think I was using a word for transmission that RUclips didn’t like. Anyway I did what you said here and it was a drastic improvement on speed to 60mph and it’s like I found a new gear on the transmission. The only thing I noticed is there’s a new “clunk” in the transmission. I’ve heard this is normal for the 92 L. C. But I’ll try to adjust it out.

It does NOT have the highly sought-after triple lockers but does have the two tone factory paint. What would I be missing with buying one without triple lockers? What are my disadvantages of getting the 150hp model? Finally, what is a fair price on average for a 1992? The one I’m considering is completely stick with 215K and has never gone off-roading. No rust either. Original engine and interior is decent. Thanks
