Honestly, no. As a DIYer, I don’t have a clue how you ran/fished wire or what type of wire you used here, what kinds of boxes we need etc. Running the wiring and knowing where to pull from (don’t know where your power is coming in). Are there limitations on wiring types, what you can pull electrical off of? Are you using power from an existing outlet? How do you do this when the outlet is 3 feet to the left or non-existent?
Thanks for this video! It can be daunting finding just the right vid on YT. I'm adding (in my living room ceiling) two separate series of LED recessed lighting to two separate switches off of two separate circuits (one off an outlet, one off a ceiling fan), so big help. I gave a quick preliminary look at your channel, and looks like some good stuff that's relevant for my purposes, and I'm looking forward to it.
You have a clear way of explaining electrical issues. Would you do a segment on converting a four foot fluorescent light fixture to LED while removing the ballast.
Huh, I’ve never seen anyone push the wires into a Wago before, kind of like a push-in connector . I’ve always opened the lever before inserting them. That was illuminating. I just might start doing that, have to try it out. Seems like it could be convenient especially when you have your hands full.
Thank you for this tutorial which I have been looking for a long time. This really helped me. Can you also please show on how to add switch from existing ceiling light fixture?
installed a light switch that i think is part of a 3 way switch, when installing i noticed the old switch had wires going into the back of the switch vs around the screws. For the new light switch i ended up putting the wires top and bottom in the back of the switch vs the screws. Also this house was built in the 90s, the old light switch had no ground bolt, the new one did but i didn't see a ground wire. do you need a ground wire connected to the new lightswitch? it's a 3 way lighted Eaton switch. Thanks and good tutorial!
There's an old saying in the electrical trades , Black on Brass will save your A$$..... No disrespect to your vid , but it's a useful rhyme that has stuck with me since I was a young boy , helping out my dad's electrician's hired to wire the houses he built ....
I saw your video on RUclips to add a light. In an office room I changed a light switch controlled wall outlet to adding ceiling lights a few years ago. I remember having to change out, I believe the outlet it could’ve been the switch. Then having to cut wall and ceiling gypsum to run the new electrical wire. I have a sitting room that now requires the same things. Do you have a video that 1. Turns the out let always on from the light switch controlled light. 2. Allows the light switch to control the new light?
Great video, and very helpful. Question; I moved an outlet a few feet up my wall - with guidance from a previous video you made - but I also wanted to add a light switch next to the new outlet that I moved (making some strip lights for a cabinet set up). Can I use power from the outlet that was moved up the wall for the new light switch, or do I have to wire an additional wire for the light switch, from the original outlet? Hope that makes sense. Thanks!!
On the ground wire, iv seen where they take one wire and twist it around the other wire like a inch from the end than put the j-hook in the end that the wire was twisted around. Is that ok for the ground wire?
My outlet has a romex 3 wire coming in to the plug and a romex 3 wire going out. Does that mean the plug is not at the end of the circuit (like the plug in your example). What is the best way to connect the wires going to the new switch to the existing plug? I want to use a motion detector switch instead of the usual switch. Will that present any problem? I think your video is well made and rehearsed- there isn’t any wasted time. Thanks.
The outlet has both neutral & hot terminals already are used. I believe one is going to the ceiling fan. Is it possible to add another light to the same outlet by pigtailing all three wires(hot, fan, light) & connecting to just one terminal?..doing same to neutrals. thank you.
If I have my home run 12 gauge coming from a panel box and connecting to the light switch and then running a 12 gauge wire to my first set of outlets to power all my outlets will it still work the same way or when I turn the switch off. Will it turn all my outlets off, my lights?
where I live in canada code sais you have to fasten/staple wire to the stud within short distance of box. always barely managed without making extra holes but it's really hard to do. any advice?
I want to do this with the switch being for an outside flood light. Is it ok to use 12 gauge wire if the outlet has 14 gauge wire? The reason i ask is i have a roll of 12/2.
What about just using radio remote? Also 15A 120V made sense when bulbs were 75w to 120w, but with low power bulbs we have now a 12v or 24v system may be an overall win.
all you need is to run a wire/14/2 from the closet light source to the new install location. At the box where you added a 14/2 splice them together with the existing, add tails for all wires and resplice them to the ex light. At the new location its just one set of wires and splice to the light.
@iiConFuZze so pigtail or splice from nearest light? How should I connect new wires to single interior light switch? Could this be too much for this switch if another outlet is also on this circuit?
Hi. Great video. I learned a lot on the basic, what to do or how to address air in the hydraulic system. But say you have water in the system . From adding contaminated oil or mistakenly leaving the cap off and rain water got in the reservoir. How can I remove the water and flush the contaminated oil out and replace it with Clean new oil?
If he didn’t do that, then the switch wouldn’t work because he’s tapping into the outlet drawing power from there to the switch. So before, power just ended at the outlet but now it goes from the outlet (up the new wire he added) to the switch and from the switch ( to other new wire he added) to the light.
Are you okay mentally? He created where the switch was going to be based on where the outlet was. In other words, you can put your switch wherever you want and he showed us how!

@vanstromi7810 most of that was in the video. I suggest you hire an electrician.
Nice! Special Thanks to all you guys on youtube, helping a lot of us save a TON of money with great videos like this 🙏

What a great video. Exactly what I needed for a simple install of a closet light. Thank you!
Another project done ✅ thank you 😊
You are very welcome. As always, thanks a lot for the feedback Clarence!
Best description for easy installations. Excellent!!

need to add a new light over my sister's kitchen sink and new switch...this does it. Thanks

Extremely helpful video. Great video quality and straightforward information. 👍🏿
very helpful thank you!

Is there a tool analogous to the outlet tester to check to see that the light fixture is correctly wired?
love your videoss

A simple wiring diagram drawing would help understand what your doing also. Maybe directly on your practice board or dry erase

This might not be relevant but, do u have any suggestions on how to remove a light switch cover that is held in place with concrete? 😮
What do I do with the two existing set of romex wires that’s in the existing receptacle?

What if the receptacle you want to tap into is a GFCI receptacle with the reset switch? Is it possible?
How did u magically end up with another ground? You pigtailed the 2 and tucked them in the bix
I have 3 exterior lights that use one interior light switch. How should I add/wire the last 4th exterior light using the same switch?

I guess you're allowed to mix lighting and GPO on a single circuit in the USA, interesting.
Yes
Why did you rewire the outlet?
If he didn’t do that, then the switch wouldn’t work because he’s tapping into the outlet drawing power from there to the switch. So before, power just ended at the outlet but now it goes from the outlet (up the new wire he added) to the switch and from the switch ( to other new wire he added) to the light.
Couldn’t you have just connected the 2 black wires and white wires on the receptacle instead of using a waygo?
Isn’t that risky tho ? But is any interesting yet very informative I like it
Because most ppl are going to have an electrical outlet directly below the new switch 🤦♂️
This was addressed in the video. 🙄
Actually yes where I added a switch off an existing plug the switch is direct below and I’m about to do it again. Just he remind how to wire it
Are you okay mentally? He created where the switch was going to be based on where the outlet was. In other words, you can put your switch wherever you want and he showed us how!
I may not be most people but my new switch will be directly over the existing outlet.
This video is NOT good for a beginner
You definitely should not do it then.
@@HowToHomeDIY not using your video, I won’t
It definitely sounds like should call an electrician. Stop watching RUclips videos on it and call a pro.

Terrible video. U didn’t even show behind the wall for beginners to see where the power is coming from.
Not helpful.
Neither are most of the comments you ever leave on my videos Wayne. But I appreciate them nonetheless 🫶
