    It's been almost 20 years since the release of the last D&D Oriental Adventures supplement and it doesn't seem like they will be releasing an update anytime soon. So in this new series, I am going to explore ways how we can reimagine Kara-Tur if I was put in charge of the supplement.
    In this Reimagining Karatur episode, I'm covering The Horde, who roams the Plain of Horses, or as it's known by its Faerunian name, Endless Wastes. This time, I will be reevaluation Chinggis Khan's legacy and draw inspiration from the natural history of Mongolia.

    Of all your Karatur reimagined videos, this is easily the most original and interesting setting for a campaign.

    Love, *love* this series. There's so much opportunity in the mythos of each culture. Thanks for bringing such information to light!

    You can add to the horde ogres, orcs, wild/wood elves, shifters, goblins, hobgoblins, both types of kobolds (draconic and canine) and the semi-humans.

      I think there was an entry of Tuigan-FR’s mongols-recruiting Orcs and Hobgoblins into their army.

    The funny thing is that Forgotten Realms already had their version of Genghis Khan, named Yamun Khahan, and when he was defeated by King Azoun IV, his son, Hubadai, became Khahan and formed a nation called Yaïmmunahar, which is still an active nation, but they sadly failed to keep all the tribes united. The last major thing Yaïmmunahar was stated to have done was taking in Shou refugees who's homes were destroyed when the Spellplague happened
    But I do love your take on the Horde and can totally use that in my own campaign setting, especially since my setting's spin on Mongolia is on the center of the world map.

    The concept of a dinoriding nomad culture is interestingly a big part of the world of Eberron with the Talenta Plains. Except the main people there are halflings! It is super cool! Also the part about a nomadic warlord finding out about extraplanar invaders and allying with druids also feels like an Eberron thing as well, which is something I will definitely consider when next running an Eberron game! Halfling Chinggis Khan riding a velocoraptor !

    A Caste System (a social system that defines your social place accoridng to your birth/family name/origin) and Meritocracy are kinda opposites though. But human history is full of such contradictions.

    • @powerist209
      @powerist209 4 года назад +2

      Well, Meritocracy can be "good idea but depends on executions"; like a warrior society might prefer mighty warrior over an intellectual warrior without considerations of its contexts or an intellectual would prefer a scholar with mainstream idea than the one who wanted to be skeptical about it.
      As the video pointed out, their meritocracy do have a bias since older members of Genghis Khan horde would be preferential than the newly conquered member states.

    Hey CJ Will this series continue? I know that the old Oriental Adventures books probably don't have many more nations set within, but I would love to see your fantasy versions of other nations! Vietnam? Thailand? I would especially love to see a fantasy version of Tibet! A reincarnating theocratic leader in an isolated mountain paradise sounds like an AMAZING setting!

    Interestingly, I have a thought of Making Thesk, where it is basically east of the Faerun and fought against Tuigan, as Medieval Balkans (Tuigan survivors broke off and forming their kingdoms ala Crimean Khanate) or dnd version of Kingdom Come Deliverance (at least the Mongol-looking Cuman against Medieval Knight Czech conflict).
    Heck, maybe Half Orcs of Thesk could be Cossacks since many of them do fought against Nomads.

      @@powerist209 Both really. But in regards to DnD Hobs have always had a vaguely Mongol theme to them as far back as I can remember, though recent editions and offshoots have leaned on it even harder. For instance they tend to refer to their clans as Hordes, and incorporate slaves into their migratory empires, both as laborers and as warriors. While the rank and value of a member isn't determined by sex, but rather one's ability on the battlefield.
