I think your criticisms of Delta is due to the fact that their passenger numbers have grown so rapidly. At this point, with almost the same number of aircraft as United, they have about 50 million more passengers. It explains why the sky clubs are so busy and why they haven’t been able to retire or renovate the older interiors on the 767’s aircraft.
The only part of this that does not make sense is that United has more “Polaris” Business seats per wide body than Delta does, and UAs Polaris lounges do not suffer from this crowding… I also think United’s clubs and lounges are well designed (specifically the newer ones) to maximize available seating, whereas delta focused more on looks and feel.
@@briangasser973looking at volume again though, Star Alliance is much larger than skyteam, specifically premium seat available per airline, still Polaris lounges do not suffer this crowding. Sad delta didn’t get these lounges right- they suffer from awful overcrowding.
The crowding is proof that Delta attracts more premium passengers than the other domestic airlines. Their hard products aren’t anything special, they do have the oldest fleet after all, but their customer service is more consistently positive.
It's a double-edged sword; I'm just surprised that Delta didn't consider the total number of D1 passengers and its alliance vs. the lounge's capacity. This can be easily assessed during the planning and design stage of the lounge.
1. In its current form, this appears to blow the Polaris lounge out of the water. 2. Wow, this looks outrageously expensive. A lot of staff and fluff. I wonder how much gets cut after the honeymoon phase of press coverage.
It sounds like the freeway traffic paradox. Adding more seats plus the media coverage makes the impression of the lounge seem very quiet and exclusive. However, that only increases the demand for such a service making the lounge crowded from the start. Great video by the way!! I’m going to be trying Delta ONE LAX-JFK-KEF on the same 767-300ER cabin!
Dakar and Senegal in general are on my travel bucket list. They have some amazing museums and historical sites that are geared toward the African diaspora from around the world. Thank you for these videos and all of information you provide, because it is informing my choices as far as flights and airline choices flying to Africa - even if I’m a lot more likely to fly economy. 😂
Being accessible by all Sky Team business class passengers is what makes it so crowded. My guess is the other 2 Sky Club lounges attendance was down. I’ve waited 30 minutes to enter the terminal A Sky Club and every time I fly through JFK that lounge has a wait.
AA was smart to separate its premium lounges into three depending on the level of ticket a person bought. There are separate F and J lounges that offer different experiences. For Delta being a premium focused airline, the crowds does not make this a premium experience.
That was so informative. We visited the Delta One lounge last month for an industry function prior to the official opening the following day. It was impressive. But how disappointing to hear of overcrowding now. We're going to experiencing it again in October prior to our flight to Amsterdam-
It looks crowded for such a big and supposedly exclusive lounge. However, the whole thing looks good. What Delta needs to fix is to bring their flagship aircraft to JFK to create a complete upscale experience.
I think every lounge that delta has in their hubs should be brought up to this level. Also delta has announced retirement of these old 767s and a330s.............. But not till 2030. I fell that they can still update these aircrafts before retirement. Very good reviews as always.
they made a big mistake not upgrading the 300ers when they did the 400ers 3 years ago. United did. Now delta one passenger's are stuck with this seating..they wont spend the money for only 4-5 years' service as 2028 is when they will be pulled from international routes
Awesome video and report, as always. We all appreciate the coverage and detail in your videos! I’m going to hold out a few months (fingers crossed) for the LAX Delta One lounge to open. There are wayyyy less Delta One flights and the check-in experience is much nicer, at least until the dedicated security line in JFK is opened. Still, the overcrowding with that much space is wild.
I flew through JFK last year and was shocked to see how long I had to stand in line to get into the lounge with a first class international ticket. I have never had to wait to enter a lounge with a first or business class international ticket. It was so crowded.
Interesting review and insight into the whole Dakar routing. Going to do a bit of nitpicking, I'm thinking you meant to say ATL is the busiest airport in the world, because it is certainly not the largest. That prize goes to the King Fahd Airport in Riyadh (at 300 sq. mi.).
I would love to know the rationale behind Delta choosing NYC over Atlanta as the 1st Delta One club? Atlanta is the #1 airport in the country and Delta's home base!
Hello Patrick. This is an ultra detailed review with plenty of beneficial details as usual. I found the segment on Why does Delta fly to Senegal interesting. If I may ask one quick question, does Delta allow Delta One Business Class passengers to bring a guest without status, who is not flying Delta One into their Delta One lounges? It'd be good to do a comparison of all three major US carriers. Thanks in advance for the info.
Question for you. Does the lounge have luggage storage, or do you have to drag your bags to the sit-down restaurant? Also, the drink carts that travel around, is that complimentary as well?
I was at the club on sat June 29 2 days after it opened .no lines thou not empty. How long did you wait?.No US airline is going to build an ME3 style empty lounge for its passengers. I found the lounge beautiful and the food outstanding. Thou I wish they had some self-service drink counters, only coffee and waiting just to get a coke is silly. What I find different in your video is the amount of children in the lounge. As this is only for business class! I paid close to 3K for a transcon D1! The dedicated security lane is a big must. I waited 20 minutes even in sky priority line. They will probably put a 3-hour limit on this lounge as well. Also limiting it to only departing D1 would help.. people connecting to US flights without D1 cabins would use the Sky clubs
Its summer time which means deltas JFK hub is at its peak travel time. Delta adds some many seasonal destinations in the summer, that go away in October. Also, it’s the Olympic year and Delta is the airline for Team USA. Not to mention the amount of transcontinental flight Delta operates. I’d expect the D1 lounge to be crowded until sometime in October.
I can’t imagine such a huge space being so crowded when it’s supposed to be for premium international passengers only. Quite a disappointment if you ask me. The Polaris lounge at EWR, ORD and SFO during their busiest times haven’t been so crowded.
Issue is the lounge is shared with other “first” or business class airlines like Air France La Premiere and Business Class (Long-Haul); LATAM Premium Business Class; KLM. Business Class; Korean Air First Class and Prestige Class; and Virgin Atlantic Upper Class….. JFK is basically a huge destination for those airlines and well…
Yeah for sure, I don’t know where they went wrong because the space is massive. EWR, ORD and SFO are big Star Alliance hubs as well but I think the flights are more spaced out throughout the day than stacked in the evening.
Unfortunately airlines in the US are notorious for sending the crappy and out of date planes to Africa. But, they charge thousands of dollars for the ticket. They get away with it because not enough passengers complain. If passengers complain as much as passengers do on flights going to Europe and Asia, they would start sending better aircrafts.
I thought the lounge was reserved only for Delta One Intl or transcon flights (not Amex credit card holders or domestic F paxs). Crazy a new lounge is at capacity right when it opens. Didnt they design the lounge to have space to grow? Seems it should have been designed with more space or a second premium lounge should be open. AA operates 3 premium lounges at JFK besides the Admirals Club.
Bruh! You’ve got to do the Delta One 757-200 from JFK to SFO! You’ll definitely have something to complain about with the 2-2 configuration, zero aisle access from the window seat and having to twist your back to plug in your headphones and mobile devices.
Oh it's terrible... none of the power ports were working... and this doesn't have to do with the plane but the San Francisco based crew were soooo rude and acted like they were doing us a favor... I expect that on AA not delta!
@@johnlebouge5443 I flew that service last November out of JFK. A couple of passengers in economy had their seatback IFE’s malfunction. The Purser decided to reboot the entire IFE system several times and ended up causing the entire system to fail. No WiFi or IFE. It was my only time to ever sit in Delta One. But you know, first world problems and all.
I mean, you can’t expect it to be empty just for you if that’s your goal fly private. But the thing that not so surprisingly surprises me though is the fact that they don’t account for this don’t they know how many Delta one customers they have and how many flights they have at the airport wouldn’t have made sense to assume at least 50% of their customers, for example, would use the lounge thus they should make sure that has a capacity that can hold That many people. Sadly, a lot of airports were built before the boom of airport traffic it’s only going to get worse with air. Traffic expected to overall grow by almost double x 2050 so honestly most airports at the very least need to expand by 50% if not double or even a few triple in size
Appreciate the backstory that you add (e.g. Senegalese population in NYC, history of the route etc). Would be interesting to hear more about the load factors on your flights. One thing I'm surprised about is how low you rate American. I think their Greenwich & Soho lounges at JFK are great and not nearly the mess that the new Delta One Lounge seems to be (albeit some great services...but the crowd is a huge turn off - and American's lounges aren't nearly that crowded). Also, I would take a reverse herringbone on the 777 to Rome ANY DAY over those crappy Delta One Seats you just experienced...infinitely better and much more private (better bedding too). I'd take most of the 787-9 seats over Polaris too. The aisle seats on United's 777/787's offer little privacy at all. The new Flagship Suites (when they actually get launched) will be infinitely better than Delta One or Polaris. Do agree, however, that the meals are better on Delta and United most often and business class dining vs just Flagship First is a huge step up.
This lounge is so crowded - granted, it's summer travel season which is why I don't like traveling during summer. Nice looking lounge but at JFK it's hard to find real private space these days. The only experience I've had using a Delta lounge at JFK was back in January...the food was okay but the service from the lounge employees was great.
Ah no thanks it looks like an upscale Mall - and looking at all the sloppy looking punters I am not interested in joining that party ,great video though Patrick and very well detailed
I have never fascinated that much by the oversaturated JFK but this time is different. I reckon the lounge shouldn't have been as hectic and clogged up as that.
You never sound " snobby " . You paid for great service and you really deserved better than you got . Delta uses those old crates to fly the people they force into Atlanta to Florida . Over rated air line . Love your reviews no matter what .
25:59, Really, no matter what narrow or widebody jet (I am not sure if Delta, Airbus A350-900 is included) that your flying on a long haul international flight, no wifi, even though the passengers expect they have wifi on the plane on a long haul flight and ended up no wifi. That's weird. But for me, it was not the case. Last March, I flew Delta, Airbus A330-300 (N812NW) from Seattle to Honolulu, they have wifi on a 6 hour trans pacific medium haul flight, which is good.
The restaurant is very impressive, but it's embarrassing that the lounge is already overcrowded. Restaurant aside this basically just looks like one of the nicer SkyClubs.
16:33 I’ve never understood why people say this. It’s not like we’re getting something for free. We are paying for a product and you hope the product lives up to the expectations. I honestly would be annoyed at these seats. This is not a short flight so you would think Delta would offer the most comfortable product.
honestly for me, the most important thing delta has, is the private tsa check in, it’s honestly the best. especially if you have anxiety and hate being around a lot of people. i really can’t wait for their security check in at JFK. the LAX one is small but you’ll be in the airport in 5 minutes or so, or you can just chill in the check in area. that to me is priceless honestly.
How is this lounge crowded as well? Didn’t know there is this many rich people in America. Delta one tickets aren’t cheap. I guess American economy is booming
Families with children are SUPPOSED to be boarded after zone 1 per Delta's own documented boarding policies. Only military and people with disabilities are supposed to preboard. But Delta's own gate agents ignore this sometimes and it drives me nuts.
oh man, crowded af...whats the point anymore? You used to go to a lounge to relax before your flight, not spend the time hunting for a seat and waiting in line.
Dropped my Dellta Reserve and quit my SkyClub membership. Too crowded, long lines and screaming children. Not worth the effort. From Diamond 2 million miler.
If the ticket is business class only, in a 40,000 sqft space, it is absolutely inexcusable to run out of space. Delta knows how many people can be in Delta One, as they are the ones who provide the seats on the flights. This is ridiculous, at a time where airline customer satisfaction is at quite possibly its lowest in decades. I don't care how much art there is in the lounge, it fundamentally takes up way too much space for tickets that often cost upwards of $3,000. Charging me more money for things when I'm already spending several thousand to get there is really a slap in the face, and I don't care if this is how United and American treat their first class passengers, it is equally as unacceptable. The lounge is not well designed at all and the dining areas take up way too much of the floor space for little return. Just looking at it from the video when the lounge was 'at capacity' reveals that the dining areas were practically empty. If they have made the lounge and branded it as exclusive, then no partners at all, only Delta One passengers. Families do not need to be taking part in pre-boarding, they can wait just likely everyone else. If I'm paying $3000+ and invite only status in some cases, and I see this, I would not be returning. This is a poor showing for the money and is another reason that Comfort+ will remain to be where I spend my dollars. However, one thing I will definitely mention about Delta's operations in both NYC and Boston. They do not base their Flagship A350s in either location. Both NYC and Boston will only see A330neos for new long-haul aircraft. I am not aware of any plans Delta has in rebasing their A350s from MSP, ATL, LAX, or DTW just due to how their route network is structured. I am curious to see how Delta and Skyteam are going to handle the loss of ITA in Europe. The addition of LATAM is great for the Latin American markets that are developing quickly, as well as Kenya Airways (though that market is much smaller). Delta also has a big problem in NYC, it's operations are spread out between two airports in JFK and LGA, unlike in places like LAX or in ATL. It is also inexcusable to not have the loaded food that is displayed on the menu. Imagine paying thousands of dollars and receiving a Spirit Airlines level experience. In this case the 767 is really showing its age. Based on its fleet renewal concepts and seat maps, it would appear that Delta is using the a330neos as a replacement for the 767s, but a few major issues there relate to the intrinsics of the a330neos; cost, weight, size, range. It is very expensive, it weighs a lot, it is very big, and its range is very long. It is overshadowed in every single way by the A350. Compared to the 787, the A330neos aren't quite in the exact same market segment. Delta also has a really big and mixed fleet, and still operates the B717 and more than 100 757s that have been showing their age for the past 7 years at this point. I would probably theorize that Delta will start using some of its A321LRneos on these routes to replace ones where the 757 would have been used previously. Such as; Dakar, Casablanca, Lisbon, Dublin, Edinburgh, Manchester, etc, and that's just from NYC. From its Atlanta hub I could definitely see connections all over Latin America and Brasil.
The reason you didn’t like the plane is because delta sends its worse, broken and old product to Africa. They don’t respect Africans but they charge huge prices to go there. Delta really needs to do better!! Here’s to hoping RUclipsrs like yourself will continue to review their products to Africa and call them out on the lack of effort.
@@aaronlimitless So then tell me why On August 19th, Ghana Aviation asked Delta Air Lines to refrain from using a 25-year-old Boeing 767 widebody on any flights to or from Ghana due to faulty plane. That is exactly how it works. You need to stop spreading misinformation. The product they send to Europe and other western nations is not the same thing they send to Africa. Stop with the gaslighting

You reviewers are way too obsessed with privacy. Wtf are you doing at your seat to need full privacy?!? Like I don’t care about you whether in business or economy and won’t watch you.
You act like privacy is a bad thing... Don't get me wrong, you can have a good seat without privacy, but there's definitely added comfort feeling like you've got some space to yourself, especially if you'll be in the seat for hours
I hope they don't play annoying plinky-plonk noise like you. That would really put me off, as it does here. Swearing doesn't help much either, do the staff swear at their customers?
They are spending way to much money on this lounge. Look how many chefs at that restaurant. And why do you need robes in an airport lounge bathroom? Where are you going to wear your robe around? Business class lounges just need to be nice enough so that it's a pleasant place to hang out and eat prior to your business class flight. They've made it so nice that now people will plan their day around this, and spend even more time in the lounge and crowd it up. They should have spent some of that money updating the entertainment systems on the plane, where you have to sit 8+ hours.
You’re nitpicking buddy. Robes? If you’re in a decent hotel they provide that. What other lounge internationally is providing robe to shower in? I think they distinguishes them. This is for the most premium passengers at one of their major hubs.
@@JeanClaudeCOCO Yes, Robes, I get it, nice hotels have them and I've used them there. But not in an airport lounge shower, seems like a waste of money and out of touch with the customer. I'm not complaining about the actual Robes, I'm saying that they are a waste of money that could be spent elsewhere. The United Polaris lounges I am in and the Flagship lounges don't have robes. This is money spent that could be better directed at improving their in-cabin experience, like upgrading the entertainment system.

Do agree, however, that the meals are better on Delta and United most often and business class dining vs just Flagship First is a huge step up.
oh...and 30 year old 767's (and 757's) at Delta and United...no thanks.
Did you say Delta's Coach price = Air Senegal's Business Class pricing?
WOW, Air Senegal is $1,139 one-way Business & $2,392 round-trip Business! That is an outstanding deal!
Patrick the reason they all went through the business class section is because delta’s 767-300 only have 2 doors on each side.
I guess I use lounges just because I can. But they so much remind me of ant hills.
English. The airlines are varied. I doubt they are "random."
Oh my, they took a photo of the food BEFORE people ate it.
Your legs fit. Every flight.
I have never fascinated that much by the oversaturated JFK but this time is different. I reckon the lounge shouldn't have been as hectic and clogged up as that.
They partnered with local colonary experts 😮
Waiting outside.. EXCUSE ME DELTA
Which Air port is this in NYC?
JFK
You never sound " snobby " . You paid for great service and you really deserved better than you got . Delta uses those old crates to fly the people they force into Atlanta to Florida . Over rated air line . Love your reviews no matter what .
Atlanta isn't the "largest airport in the world". Maybe you meant to say busiest.
Not having one in the ATL is foolish. How do you not have a signature lounge in your main hub.
That’s what I’m sayin! Seems odd
A delta one lounge in atl would have to be a private terminal
25:59, Really, no matter what narrow or widebody jet (I am not sure if Delta, Airbus A350-900 is included) that your flying on a long haul international flight, no wifi, even though the passengers expect they have wifi on the plane on a long haul flight and ended up no wifi. That's weird. But for me, it was not the case. Last March, I flew Delta, Airbus A330-300 (N812NW) from Seattle to Honolulu, they have wifi on a 6 hour trans pacific medium haul flight, which is good.
Seems nuts to me. The planes cabin was kinda weird as well.
The restaurant is very impressive, but it's embarrassing that the lounge is already overcrowded. Restaurant aside this basically just looks like one of the nicer SkyClubs.
20:11 artist vs engineer
I have TSA precheck and can get through a security line in minutes at T8 JFK. I would rather have a less crowded lounge than an express TSA service.
That direct linkage out the back will be incredible once finished
@@briangasser973 it’s different my guy
That would be the ingenuity not ingenious of the crew. Anyway, great video. Sorry, the juice king Barry Bonds doesn't belong in any Hall of Fame!
How is this lounge crowded as well? Didn’t know there is this many rich people in America. Delta one tickets aren’t cheap. I guess American economy is booming
Theres also a lot of business travelers that use these lounges on tickets paid for by their companies... that's the life
Good area to keep walking……..
Families with children are SUPPOSED to be boarded after zone 1 per Delta's own documented boarding policies. Only military and people with disabilities are supposed to preboard. But Delta's own gate agents ignore this sometimes and it drives me nuts.
Interesting… I feel like I’ve always boarded after the families with Delta
oh man, crowded af...whats the point anymore? You used to go to a lounge to relax before your flight, not spend the time hunting for a seat and waiting in line.
Dropped my Dellta Reserve and quit my SkyClub membership. Too crowded, long lines and screaming children. Not worth the effort. From Diamond 2 million miler.
Ur mad at a child being a child
Atlanta airport isn’t the largest in the world it’s the busiest
I mean you know what I mean though…
A video!
Not how it works stop spreading misinformation
@@aaronlimitless So then tell me why On August 19th, Ghana Aviation asked Delta Air Lines to refrain from using a 25-year-old Boeing 767 widebody on any flights to or from Ghana due to faulty plane. That is exactly how it works. You need to stop spreading misinformation. The product they send to Europe and other western nations is not the same thing they send to Africa. Stop with the gaslighting
I’d say, haters stop flying Delta! Give us Delta fans a chance to enjoy the lounge ! 😂
Good info. But learn the words 'are' and 'were'.
🤨
♫ ah! oo-oo oo oo ah! bougie wonderland... ♫ the design elements seem consistent throughout (except for the shower suite where the marble just did not go with the shower tiles imo) but i know how you dig your showers - and i guess Jabba da Hutt could fit in there, no? the dining bit was swanky and deelish. so i know this is largely about da lounge but somehow i still think deep inside you were ticked off about boarding #amirite ; ) and ya imma go ahead and say it: the 'cons' rant while taxi-ing made you sound snobby and annoying 😂 inconsistent aircrafts are not a good look and have to agree with your sentiments on their cabin config et al but yikes! 36:11 - 36:13 should be spliced out (that bum picking scene is def NOT a good look) 🤣
Yikes. Like sardines in a tin.
I stopped watching the video at 5:24. This lounge is depressing.
The world must be a scary place… huh
@@PatrickSheaAviation Oooh - huh.
Way too long of a video, could have covered it in 15 minutes. I lost interest.
