sadly, my walker passed away, but he was a hoot! barked and howled all the time, but he was the best natured dog! I sure miss him! (his name was hickory)
Your Walker hounds are beautiful. We've had Walker Hounds the 90s, you won't find a better dog. Sadly, we lost two within a month of each other. But we just adopted a young one, and we have another coming next week. Going from from old dogs to young dogs is quite an adjustment, but we love them!
Congrats on your new pups! I have considered what we will do when these get older and are no longer with us. The thought of us NOT having hounds doesn't make sense but as my husband and I get older, I know that we will have to make sure we can dedicate the time to them they need. THEY ARE SO NEEDY! haha But I love it too :) GOOD LUCK w/ your new pups.
I got a shelter pup that's a strong mix of this. First dog that I owned. He's great. They're really amazingly expressive. I don't remember my Polish Hound as a child being this expressive. Mine's not a HUGE talker, but those eyes. And I love that you can actually see them thinking. Again, maybe since my hound growing up was polish it didn't do much of that, we're not he was a shelter pup. I think his owner had to go back to Poland for some reason and couldn't take the dog.
Great to see your video! Our 4-year old Walker is the spitting image of your girl - we don't see too many on the East Coast. Our Molly bays all the time - likes to go outside and then bark at us through the window.
+Tessa Romita-Herron we have two dogs. Bri and Saydee and they bay when they need ANYTHING. I have grown to love it. Here is Kansas there are a few Walker hounds but usually I have seen them in the south.
I know this is an old video. But that is my Walker to a T!!! Dessa is very vocal and just a little goofy. I do love these this breed, excellent companion for a single person!!!
I am loving your videos... I just adopted my first TWC today! Don't have him yet... he's coming from another state. A two year old... that no doubt will sound just like THIS. LOL Glad I'm getting used to the sound now!
This is so cute! I love your dog's pretty eyes! I have a 5 month old Walker hound named Dixie. It's really funny how they all really do look alike. Mine has 3 huge spots shaped like hearts on her sides. She too is very very loud when she wants to be but such a baby!
+Jaden Thoennes Hey Jaden - yes she is loud. If I want them to NOT bark they will for the most part. But with coonhounds they do communicate with their voice. "i need to pee" - bark. " i am hungry" - bark. " i want to go lay on the deck" - bark. We learned a long time ago to try and train them to not bark for everything but only if they need something. But when they play, they are SO loud. I love it and have grown to just appreciate that it's how this breed communicates. At first I thought I was going to pull my hair out! :)
"i wanna go GET SUMTHN!...iv gnawed this bone of its smell & it won't run up a tree!"...mine just came across the entry way to my front door w/ her nose in the air twitching. Sure enuff, a few seconds later a squirrel jumps for another tree!
I have a Walker Hound. Does the same thing. Except mine is tall and lanky....and dumb as a rock. BUT... is a good thief. When I mow the grass, I find all the things I accused my child of taking in the yard.
I wish I could put a pic or video in this response. My Harleigh looks and acts so much like yours. Mine is also a mix of annoying and a major lovebug :)
Our walker Bri was food driven for a long time. We bought a slow feeder bowl that forced her to take a long time to eat. Also we fed her more than twice a day, just smaller meals so she wasn't so hungry. If you rescued your walker, often during training I've heard that food is a tool to train in a negative way. So, good luck with your dog. Try to turn food into something that isn't a big deal.....just a daily thing that happens and less exciting.
Christina Niday thanks for the heads up,yes our Sansa was a rescue but she was a puppy, puppy when we got her. She's going to take some time to slow her down
My walker coonhound is almost 2 years old,he is so smart and vocal! Are yours the same? We can't raise our voice otherwise he barks, every time i hug someone even my husband,he barks! Do anyone know any good ideas to train walkers? He takes off every time he smells something and it's hard to call him back:( I love my baby boy,and wanna learn more about him and this breed.
+Lu Chen Hi Lu. Sorry I'm just getting back to you. They are vocal and are breed that way. It's very hard to get them to not be vocal, but ours will stop barking if asked. They don't like it, but they will. It does take a TON of training for sure. I've found some great videos on you tube for barking. About the "coming back" part. Well, he is a coonhound and his brain will take over if he smells something he is trained to find. I bought dog collars from Bass Pro that are used in hunting and it's honestly changed my life. I can have my dogs off leash and they don't run off. They usually don't even need them turned on as when they are wearing them they know to listen to me. Also with age your dog will continue to calm down a bit. My hounds are around 4 and 3 and they still act like they are 2 sometimes. I suggest going to Bass Pro or any sporting good store with a hunting section and ask for SPORT DOG collars or something that you can use to train your dog. Even the $100 cheap one will work in the beginning. You tube videos will offer ways to train with the color and SPORT DOG's website and hand books will help you in the beginning. Coonhounds are smart and in about 10 mins you should be able to go outside with your dog off leash and be able to use the noise option to call your dog back. I trained my dogs in about 10 mins in the house with treats and repetition. Now we will ride bikes, run, go to off leash parts, hike etc. with our dogs. GOOD LUCK!
Congrats!!! These are excellent dogs. I got Dessa from a rescue. I won't get a puppy, they are destructive at both ends!!! Enjoy your new best friend!!!
Saydee is so much fun. She is also very very loud which at times is frustrating. haha I could literally post a video like this of her every day. We had her playing "hockey" in the basement a few days ago - I plan to upload it in a few.
Hopefully you did research on the dog and not living in a small apt cuz they are not good for that at all! I have an American Foxhound and we have about 2 acres he can run on with his brother. He can sound his alarm and i think he likes the echo of his bay in the woods.😂😂 Everybody can hear him and im in the country. Best guard alarm and then i have his sneaky mix shepherd dog thats smaller and is a silent ninja. The hound is the alarm where the shep mix is the ankle destroyer rofl. His nickname is gremlin. These are pack animals they need a friend or they will be extremely lonely depressed. Needs tons of excercise and never let off the leash that nose takes them everywhere and anywhere! My 1st hound was a redbone and when he passed it was such a hole he left behind. We later found the foxhound and he was very similar in personality just not as sensitive as the redbone. They rly are wonderful loving dogs when u bond and will have a shadow for life!!😊
Wow, she's got a set of pipes! Gorgeous. I love a talking dog, but glad mine often used her 'inside voice'.
Too funny! Our walker coonhound, Hector, knows French. Whenever we say, "Ou sont le lapin?" (where are the rabbits), he goes ballistic.
HAHA
sadly, my walker passed away, but he was a hoot! barked and howled all the time, but he was the best natured dog! I sure miss him!
(his name was hickory)
Bryan Curtis I am so so sorry to hear of the loss of your dog. They do become family.
Thank you,I've just gotten a puppy, not a walker, but a pit/lab mix, sweet dog, but I'll always remember my Hickory, he was my best friend!
We have an American English Coonhound. Soooo mouthy and talkative but one of the friendliest dogs. Love hounds

LOL! I see I am not the only one to have this conversation with my walkers! :) She is VERY SWEET!! Thanks for sharing! :)
I have a Walker Hound also and they are so much alike. Very cute.
Beautiful dog I love this breed.

This reminds me of my walker when I was growing up ❤️❤️❤️

She said "Use your words."🤣🤣🤣
Cute, I had 11. (6 now) Mom (Lady) Dad (Bruno) and the Puppies, Ricky, Lucy, Theo and Zulu.
11 walkers?! Oh my! I bet that was fun!
Omg you’re funny 😆 beautiful baby you have 😘😘
That was cute. My dog isn't a barker so this would drive me crazy long term-but an adorable video on a dog I knew nothing about nonetheless.

Holy crap that's a loud dog. I love it.

I have a beagle/walker mix and he’s just the best thing ever
Cute dog
Now that is 1 loud dog!
It can be hard to put human expressions on a dog, but she has a real sassy look. lol
So cute 🥰
Had a beagle Walker mix when I was a kid😊
It's like a giant beagle, I need one now!
Some people say that. Except Walker owners :) They are fun and a lot of work, but they are worth it.
I wish I could put a pic or video in this response. My Harleigh looks and acts so much like yours. Mine is also a mix of annoying and a major lovebug :)
