The film industry usually uses the call of a red-tailed hawk as a substitute for bald eagle calls. Anyone who knows anything about birds, especially raptors, can tell the difference.
My dad had a red tail for several years. I've only heard her screech once, as she just *hated* the school bus. Most of the time her "chatty" noises were rather different. That said, I can't remember for the life of me what it was, as most of my memories regarding how raptors communicated had been supplanted by the Saker and Peregrine we had later on.
I find it sounds better than hawks. This is actually their chattering noise when they are close to each other. They have a longer call that sounds majestic and louder.
Do you live in an area infested with these guys? We have them on a river near us and over the last several years I've noticed them pouring out of the river area. Out in the boonies far away from any fish we see them on the regular. Had a nest within a couple miles of our house and we see them ranging over our house occasionally. We are usually not kind to birds of prey because they can kill our cats and chickens but a) bald eagles have seen them and never shown any interest and we know what interest looks like b) they really are majestic as all hell big beautiful birds. You sure it's not a songbird you are hearing? I wouldn't be surprised either way because it seems like their population is going wild at least in some areas. Looks like some kind of ecological disruption but it is cool.
Oh no I’m sorry, I meant in media. I’ve heard the actual bald eagle cry way more in MEDIA than the hawk screech. I WISH I lived somewhere with actual bald eagles. They’re amazing.
@@XShadOBabeX You would love it where I'm at. I guess I don't live there currently but ~2018-2020 I noticed em more and more until infestation became the right word lol. Would see several per winter, one nested near us, seeing em was nothing special (unlike 3 years prior). They were moving away from this river a few dozen miles away. Last year or two I don't notice many though. 1-2 per winter maybe. Being birds of prey they are not very scared of humans. So we've gotten up pretty close to nests. Up close you can appreciate how big they are. Relative to say redtails. Big beautiful vulture eagles is how I think of them (I really like vultures unlike a lot of people and sizewise/in regards to wing shape if you see a bird of prey that looks like a vulture check his head for whiteness).

I went to a bird sanctuary with my HS class, and they had a young bald Eagle there. I believe she’d gotten hit by a car or something and was permanently injured so she had to be cared for. Sad but good to know she was in good hands. Anyways, my class and I were supposed to draw one of the birds there. I picked the Peregrin Falcon because I love how they look, but while we were all standing around the Bald Eagle decided to make sure we all knew that she was definitely the most awesome bird there. It might sound like adorable squeaking, but I personally love the noise and it’s really cool to hear that chirping coming from such a massive bird. Until you’ve heard it in person, don’t judge. It’s such a cool call.
People say bad things about having birds in captivity like that, but, realistically speaking... it's actually a good thing for the population as a whole. Not just because it's a safe place for people to come and see these majestic birds and learn more about them, but these places can also safely breed the birds, vaccinate and tag their offspring, and then release those offspring into the wild to further add to the population, and bring some of these majestic animals back from the brink.
Literally the only visual difference between Male and female bald eagles is the size. How when they are not next to each other you can just tell the gender like that? Or can you just accurately guess size and weight by just this little footage
The eagle's call is too beautiful and gentle sounding. Because of this in movies and the like they use the call of the Red Tailed Hawk in placement of the eagle for drama. Listen to a red tailed hawk calling and you will see what I mean. Don't tell me you haven't heard it in a movie in place of an eagle call?

Yeah stand next to a full grown eagle they stand a meter tall, almost 7 foot wing span (the golden eagle has up to a 8 foot wing span) and if either raptor wanted to it could attack a human and rip their face off and fly away with it before they even knew what happened. That's exactly what I was thinking. I learned that the bigger the bird is the deeper the sound, so I guess the eagle is the exception to that. Great observation!
