It's the pov that makes this so interesting. Outside of that, it's nothing new, but that alone leaves me highly interested.
But how do you create tension when you're the monster in the shadows? I'm curious mostly to see if they figured that out.
You create dread instead. We get to watch the killer stalk. That has me intrigued.
The POV isn't really new either, there's a horror/black comedy called Behind the Mask that does it. This looks good regardless.
A better horror story would be taking you to a restaurant. I already know you would be very indecisive

All of these comments are from people who havent seen the movie. Its the worst "horror film" ive probably ever seen, and thats saying something. The pacing is so bad you will wonder if the editor was blind. Sooooo boring and then finallythe first kill ten minutes in and it happens OFF SCREEN. If they cut all the monotonous scenes of "johnny" walking plodding through the woods the movie would literally be 25 minutes long. Thats how much time this 2 hr movie wastes on scenes of people....walking. No idea how this got a theatrical release. There were people leaving the theater around the 1 hr mark when it became clear that things weren't going to pick up. Total garbage

I just saw this movie and it's the worst movie I've ever seen! Painfully slow, unnecessary amount of walking, bad sfx, characters with less depth than a kiddie pool, an abysmal ending, AND PORNOS HAVE BETTER ACTING THAN THIS
This is a good concept that probably been thought about a million times but everyone agreed it wouldnt be interesting to watch a guys back while he walks around for 90 minutes. Excited to see if they can pull it off and make it interesting the whole time.
The 1989 movie Elephant is also like this and is well worth the watch!

As I was a kid during the 80s, I was a HUGE fan living thru the slasher genre...Friday the 13th could have pulled thus off and it would've done EXTREMELY well, by the mid to the end of the 80s...85-89 we were basically rooting for Jason. HERES A FUN FACT to make you envious....in 1984 I was 9 , I actually talked my parents into taking me to see The Final Chapter Friday the 13th 4.....😂😂 TWICE!!!! Can you imagine?? In a packed theater. Final Chapter is and ALWAYS WILL BE the best Friday the 13th!!!!!!

excellent lighting in this film. Trust me, it is not a bunch of drawn out, monotonous walking scenes. It has a great pace. Despite playing into some cliche tropes, the acting in the film does a great job of not calling too much attention to it. its not boring at all, you havent seen a slasher film like this one. recommend.

For all that don’t know the person that owns the rights to Jason refused to sell or allow anymore movies to be made under the name “Jason Vorhees” or Friday the 13th. So yes this is a Jason movie that’s not legally called Jason.
Source with any of the Jason team behind this? Because it doesn’t matter about who owns the rights it matters that someone who worked on Friday the 13th actually worked on this before we go saying this is a true spiritual successor

This has been tried before but the idea failed when in editing people realized this is a stupid idea following the brainless robot killer around the whole time when they have no personal life or personality which just come off unrealistic as hell.
They tried to shoot the movie from the monster's prospective but it was boring to watch the back of the monster for 90 minutes

I did think of F13 first, mainly because of the location (the woods) and a big hulking mass of humanity that is the killer. Why woiuldn't people think of F13? Those other woods slashers are lesser kown horror flicks that a lot of people still don't know about unless your a horror diehard and not the casual horror viewer.
@@filmfacet8076 There was just multiple forest or camp themed slashers in 1981 specifically, the same year as Jason's debut. The Burning is actually based on very old urban legend and that screenplay predates even the first Friday The 13th. I guess it just doesn't feel right to me to see Johnny being solely compared to Jason, especially since the filmmakers went through the trouble of giving him a unique design with his mask and hook weapons. Johnny just doesn't feel like a Jason reskin to me. He feels like one of the forgotten forest slashers like Cropsy or Madman Marz. I still need to watch the movie and I'm really excited for it. As long as they don't give Johnny a backstory that ties heavily with his parents, then he'll truly be original in my eyes. The Hatchet films made the mistake of basically copying Jason's backstory by making Victor Crowley a deformed child, but this time his father was the sole caretaker. I just have confidence that the filmmakers had their own unique vision for Johnny and I really wanna find out what his story is. Cuz some of my favorite slashers are the obscure ones, and I hope this film gives me an experience similar to when I watched The Burning for the first time.

As a long time horror fan, I have to say that I absolutely hated this movie. If you cut out all of the pointless scenes of this guy just randomly walking through the woods, the movie would be about 25 minutes long. I've honestly never seen so many filler scenes in a movie in my entire life. Also because the camera follows behind the killer the entire time it leaves absolutely no opportunities to build suspense...and the lack of a theatrical score (which is basically essential for horror cinema) makes it even worse. The only thing this movie has going for it is a few pretty gory death scenes, but even those were annoying as I feel like the victims basically just stood around and let it happen. You'd be better off just rewatching a 'Friday the 13th' film, or 'The Burning', which this movie is a poor imitation of. Or if you want to see a solid slasher movie from the perspective of the killer, go watch 'Maniac' from 1980.

This movie does NOT take place from the killer’s point of view, just the camera’s. Since the camera is not a character, we’re left following a silent, hooded non-character as he goes on an occasionally violent walk. Somehow even his costume is boring.
