(Wellingtonian here) The coughing and spitting I noticed last time I was in AKL as well, but from what I saw (the 15-20 times I saw it), it seems to be a practice specific to the Chinese immigrant community. When I was in china I was really grossed out by people clearing their throats and spitting on the sidewalks literally everywhere. I was watching video with my daughter as she is going to be working as an intern in Auckland. Trying to prep her for what to expect.
@@TNP1990 and running you over with black hard too see and hear batery scooters 24/7 -. Kicked out China kung- fu club on k road as too white for them.''
Bought a car on the K road, drove from top to bottom of NZ in it, this area must have developed into more of a njghtlife area. I did go out predominantly in Newmarket, but there was a very good games arcade at the bus station. Lived in Remuera for my duration of 2 months in Auckland. I am going back nearly 30 years though. The whole of that waterfront area was being redeveloped in my time and there was no real connected metro either. So many changes, need to go back.
K'Rd used to be the red light district of Auckland. ..alot of "massage" places...is alot tamer now than it was in the 70's and 80's mate Ponsonby is another great area with alot or pubs and restaurants.
Weta Workshop is awesome, it's all about the making of movie props and effects. The Weta cave in Miramar Wellington is pretty awesome as well. Weta digital are known for it's award winning visual effects on movies such as Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit Trilogy, Avatar, The Rise of The Planet of Apes, Kingkong, The Avengers and many more.
Have studied at the University (close to Queen St), worked at the casino as a kitchen hand, lived in Symond Street, seen Star Wars when it was new on Queen Street (I was 7), seen Beethoven's Ninth and Diamanda Galas at the town hall, seen big musicals and alternative theatre at the Aotea Centre. K Road is fun, full of galleries and happenings. I don't care why small town folk hate us but I suspect the answer to that is diversity. And spitting is gross.
I am sure there use to be a White House around Oriental Parade many, many years ago which was a restaurant. I just Google White House Auckland, it's a adult entertainment centre. Many, many moons a go I stayed at a place on the corner of K Road, and something a rather st, all night long all you'd hear were sirens going down the Street. Queen St there was a outdoor market place, not use if it's there any more, that was pretty cool. Auckland museum was great to walk around, completely different to Te Papa. i enjoyed Auckland zoo, different animals to Wellington. It was fun going up the Sky Tower, and walking around the views of Auckland is spectacular up there, would recommend it.
New subscriber an gone back through an watched a lot of your videos I thought I wouldn’t b interested but found this content quite entertaining I’m kiwi but ain’t lived back home for 10years great vid mate
The Mercury Plaza at Mercury Lane (same area as K' Road) was one of my favourite places to dine and even the All Blacks would go for the Cantonese BBQ food. Unfortunately, the place had been running down year after year. Auckland Transport took over the site and is going to re-develop into an underground train station.
Strange thing about these places is visitors think its great and locals move elsewhere and don't come back except for brief family visits and cant get outta there quick enough again.
Is Curls having a bit of a laugh? I was waiting for some real chaos and excitement over in Auckland and it seems pretty mild with not that many people about. I do love curls enthusiasm for NZ though, he might be an Englishmen but he should be in the running for Kiwi of the year. Auckland does look like a nice place though if not all that happening!!!
Cons: The traffic, get in the wrong lane you’re screwed, parking is a pain, not easy to get around. Pros: plenty of things to do, lots of events going on, never boring.
You showed that famous curve in the Krd landscape, naming some old buildings iconic to that area, Rising Sun,family and Naval(taverns), rendells,George court, pink pussycat 😂, myers park st Kevin's arcade, PIC,Scotia pl LDS,Ratana,Baptist(churches),AGG and the most famous place the cemetry (freaky). My hood in the 60's...
I was there in October last year, the place looks about the same as I last saw it. Lot of good memories there. You know, you can walk right up to the skytower building's base? There's a security guard there to ensure people don't spraypaint the tower base or anything but you're allowed to go right into the outer plaza area. The tower is impressive but what's really cool is the solid transparent blocks that surround the base section that enters the ground. During the day you can see right down into the workings and the actual entry to the tower which is reached during the day by the escalator just inside the sky city main building.
To experience Auckland’s night life (club life) you need to go to K Road and the viaduct much later like around 11pm. That’s when it’s more packed with people partying 🎉
Damn it's quiet in Auckers these days. Used to stay in Queen St when I went there for work trips ages ago. People everywhere and some seedy happenings when we left Sky City and nearby bars. I rate Viaduct and Devenport, worth a look
K Road "It's an Assault on the Senses" ~ CURLS ... I haven't been to Auckland and K Road since 1999 - 2000 and it was a tad quieter back then but I'm just trying to ascertain where to move to from the Deep South of South Island but definitely NORTH
You've made it to Tiritiri Matangi... I've sailed past it many times and live not far, but I've never actually been on the island myself. Do try a morning to midday trip to Rangitoto though, hike up to the top, and fit in Waiheke Island for an afternoon beer. As for the the spitting in the CBD, that's a foreign import. 🤢
The trouble is with places like that is the dopey councils allow residential apartments in and they end up complaining and the council listens to them.
Weather dampens things, so a bit dreary. Nice grungy feel though. When summer hit it was one of the nicest cities i've been too. Just the way they placed the buildings + parks etc.
You were in Aotea Square which hosts a few events outside and in. Aotea Convention Centre is a stunning building which hosts performing arts and theatre and is world class. It’s a shame you didn’t go inside the entrance. I enjoyed your video. I love Auckland and moved out of the city 5 years ago and now I’m a little homesick.
Auckland born and bred. The White House is an Adult Entertainment Centre 'wink wink'. That spitting on the ground is not Aucklanders, it's certain people from certain islands. Auckland is the only place I'd live, everywhere else is too quiet and has very limited options of anything.
Wondering how someone can make a generalisation about an entire island population unless they have been to that island and met everyone there AND studied their behaviours.
@@TheRachelHaircut Being born and raised in South Auckland I"ve been around Pacific Islanders a lot. A lot of them I've seen with my own eyes at work and out in general hoking up and spitting on the ground. If it didn't happen I wouldn't have said it did. I also never said ALL people from the islands do it, but some sure do.
@@cadifan if you think being born and raised in South Auckland makes you an expert on Pacific Islanders, I can tell you now Pacific Islanders from the actual island are a different breed to the ones raised in NZ. Furthermore I am from a pacific island and I have never spit on the ground and know plenty of pacific islanders who don't either. You can't tell me that the ones you met represent an entire island.
I haven't been to K Road in years. That brings back memories. The Pink Pussycat (Showing my age). But wow. I used to live in Newmarket and would often sneak through Auckland Uni late at night with mates on route to Queens St. That thing about shops and what not closing early, funny you should say that, all Kiwis go to bed at 10 PM. Just kidding. But it used to suck when I was younger.
You should go to Rotorua or places up North or on the East Coast if you get a chance, you can experience more Maori culture and see some amazing scenery, but its not like Auckland or other busy cities, its more laid back if you are into that. Started Krd too early mate. Should've started at the viaduct with the corporates having their Friday drinks, then gone up to Krd as it doesn't get going till 10.
Cool to see your take on our city. Hope you enjoyed your beers. Maybe you could shoot a "first drink, last drink" vlog one day 😉😎
(Re - pick a side at 16.51) walk on the left side of the pavement .
When I was a child, 1960's, the foot paths in Queen street had central dividing lines painted on the pavement to separate on coming pedestrians.
hmmm Cuba St and Courtney Place in Welly would have more people on a Friday/Saturday night. But K Rd has its own vibe.
When I was in china I was really grossed out by people clearing their throats and spitting on the sidewalks literally everywhere. I was watching video with my daughter as she is going to be working as an intern in Auckland. Trying to prep her for what to expect.
Lots of Chinese spitting in Auckland
Yes. And it is NOT a thing for Kiwis to snort n spit it is considered bad manners and offensive not lease unhygienic
As an Aucklander it would have been nice to meet you or at least see you vlogging in person.
Obviously the odds were ~1.7m to one for that happening.
Auckland ain't scareish 🤣🤣🤣 its just chilled. My niece is from aussie and she says she's shocked at how chilled it is🤣🤣🤣
K'Rd used to be the red light district of Auckland. ..alot of "massage" places...is alot tamer now than it was in the 70's and 80's mate
Ponsonby is another great area with alot or pubs and restaurants.
The sky towers foundations go down 150 metres into the volcanic rock, all 4 corners sit on a giant steel ball.
I was waiting for that ram raiding word to come up eventually. Lol Not New Zesland without atleast 1 store in Auckland not smashed to pieces. Lol
Queen Street used to be the city centre. Now because everyone goes shopping in the suburban malls, it's not the centre anymore.
Great cross sectional tour of the CBD, I worked there till 2016 and it was a building site back so then who knows how long it will go on for . 😀
Why did you go to K Road so early ? it kicks off after midnight on Fridays .
So agree with everything you say. Our diversity means we are less ignorant. Tick for JAFALand and yeah - stare down the nose to those small town folk.
How can you claim to not be ignorant and then make an ignorant comment?
K road is a different beast at 3am curls!
FACTS!😂
🤣💚
Try the pies at the Blue Rose cafe on Sandringham Road. You will love it!
Good to see you captured the Vegas Girl @ 5:30.... been there decades without a makeover 😂😂😂
Cool your doing videos of Auckland but at the same time the whole video was of you with glimpses of Auckland 😂😂
Is K-Road, short for Kangarahape Road.
Yes
The last time I went to Auckland, Sky Tower was just a hole in the ground .I'll stick with HB
Curls, I can't believe you walked all that way... K'Rd, down Queen St, and then to the Viaduct. That definitely deserves a beer or two. Maybe three.
Thanks for letting us tag along 😉
I live on a street off K Road, my daughter and her friends grew up at cafes on K Road as children and never once felt afraid..
"Found our first intense people I think, don't wana film might die!" 😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
I grew up there. Never going back. Christchurch, being near the Alps and Central Otago is heaven.
Crosses road with no traffic: “will I die?” 😂
Is Curls having a bit of a laugh? I was waiting for some real chaos and excitement over in Auckland and it seems pretty mild with not that many people about. I do love curls enthusiasm for NZ though, he might be an Englishmen but he should be in the running for Kiwi of the year. Auckland does look like a nice place though if not all that happening!!!
Kia ora, I am newly subscribed and am just wondering how I get that peanut slab.?? 🤣🤣
10.55 Wel done bro on doin ya best to avoid eye contact with shoutin weirdo. But i give em evil eye that culd scare Satan himself, always works !
Cons: The traffic, get in the wrong lane you’re screwed, parking is a pain, not easy to get around.
Pros: plenty of things to do, lots of events going on, never boring.
The Club scene was pretty good back in the day; House Music and chemicals, all nighters. Hope it is still the same.
You showed that famous curve in the Krd landscape, naming some old buildings iconic to that area, Rising Sun,family and Naval(taverns), rendells,George court, pink pussycat 😂, myers park st Kevin's arcade, PIC,Scotia pl LDS,Ratana,Baptist(churches),AGG
and the most famous place the
cemetry (freaky).
I'm around the corner and never got to Kroad on Friday or Saturday night. Never go into town either.
You were at 'K' rd to early, go back at midnight when it comes alive
Agree… and cross K Rd to the other side and go down the side roads off K Rd 😂
Did you go up any of the volcanic mountains ?
You should have called to at Jacinda and Clarke's for lunch ....
Auckland born and bred. The White House is an Adult Entertainment Centre 'wink wink'. That spitting on the ground is not Aucklanders, it's certain people from certain islands. Auckland is the only place I'd live, everywhere else is too quiet and has very limited options of anything.
Yip, it's the Chinese that spit and hoik. I said it for you ;)
@@haleyrichardson8818 That's true, but I wasn't thinking of them. Try a more common island population.
Your videos are interesting to watch being a Maori woman. Seeing how people from another country react to different places in Aotearoa is quite interesting, keep it up.
You should go to the Octagon in Dunedin on a Friday night
K Road has calmed down some these last few ideas. It used to be wilder.
all you can do in all over new zealand and australia is walk into a cafe on the street or have a burger with drinks by the riverside
Very entertaining Curls me ole China! Left home in 1996 and now living in west London. K Road looks totally different now ie no gay bashing, Harley Davidson gang rides, strip clubs (and getting in at 17/18 years old etc... Stay well!
Ah my old stomping grounds.use to live up the zest apartments with the Mrs before it turned into a more Interesting building I'll say haha.more walks around auks would be cool.
Hope to catch yah next time you're in Tamaki Makaurau e hoa!😄🤗
Mate. This vid brought tears .. I've walked that road. For year . As you walked i was still able to point out lot of old shops from 2014 .. just one bad decision and i am fighting hard to get back there since 2016 .. thanks for video
At 6:52 .. that's the corner I saw first ever topless necked women calling out for s+x
You look like a rich Londoner in a poor city called Auckland in New Zealand, it's a filthy city Auckland city it's just pile of disgusting unexplained situations that's the Auckland city culture they like it that way, the locals around there are like vampires that only come out at night.
I walked K Road only during the day. Expat Kiwi - Feb 2024 visit
Yay love this, I can go on an adventure on my couch 🛋️
You walked pasted sneaky snacky. That place is a gem bro, donut burgers, some of the best chicken. Check it out!
