24-YEAR-OLD Tasia Taylor is the mother of two teenagers. Tasia and her husband Drew, 26, decided to open their home to foster children and Rory, 14 was placed with them. Tasia said: “We just thought with our age, we didn't know that they would even let us take a teenager.” They then adopted Rory, her brother Isaiah, 12 and Tamiray, 16 who is Tasia’s cousin, then Tasia gave birth to Ashtyn Rose two months ago. Within two years, they went from zero to four children. The couple are both teachers and feel this has helped equip them in becoming adoptive parents but they have still been subjected to judgement. Tasia said: “People say we're too young to have adopted teenagers.” But the couple explained that they are very mature for their age and are doing their best. Their families were ‘terrified’ at the prospect of them adopting at first but became so supportive. The family are entertained by the fact that people think they are all siblings or a friendship group rather than parents and children. The couple would like to have more children and foster again too. Drew said: “We're always going to be the family for them.”

I was just relieved to find out that mama wasn't abused as a kid, the title without context had me worried! The kids are very lucky to have such loving parents in their lives. Crazy to think that some people would rather they hadn't adopted them, leaving them without a safe and stable home.

You know in a way the matter of dealing with a teenager when you’ve only been one yourself in a decade makes sense. You can have a lot of insight to bring to them and they will find you to be relatable
I’m raising a 13 and 12 year old and I’m only 20 it does help with some things to be younger but kids have changed so much so quickly that it’s like a whole other world.

The way the kids look at their parents and the parents at the kids...there's so much love and that's really all you need.
I was adopted by an older couple with a perfect looking life. And my childhood was trauma upon trauma. I would have a taken young and compassionate mom over old and sadistic any day of the week. Congratulations on your beautiful family.

I would have taken some mentally healthy parents as an adopted child rather than my mentally ill parents.

I find it despicable that her husband is accused of such disgusting things. There's something seriously wrong with a good portion of today's society. I'm sorry they've had to endure such hate when all they did was offer their home in an amazing act of love for their kids. We adopted my son & I couldn't imagine being hated on in that manner. This is an amazing story. I am so happy they took in older kids because they are always the ones that get left behind cause most parents want a baby but all kids need love no matter their age
Rory and Isaiah really already resemble the parents and tamiray of course as well, ypu wouldnt even know theyre adopted and even though resemblance shouldn't matter in a family its still really beautiful to see😊

What you are doing is a wonderful thing. I was 21 when I started foster care. My husband and I now have 10 beautiful children. Our oldest is 8 years younger than her dad and 10 years younger than myself. It's truly a blessing embrace every moment it's a gift you've been given!
What a beautiful family! I admire this loving couple for taking on great responsibility at such a young age and creating a loving home for all these kids in need of support and stability. These two are teachers. I think that they are more equipped to foster and adopt children, than any of these commentors. If they can handle over 20 children at their day job, than they can definitely raise these kids. Age doesn't matter at this point.

Who could possibly criticise these people?
I guess some people think they are too young to take care of teenagers eight years younger than them. But I lived with my brother who is ten years older than me for years. And the first time I lived with him and his wife was when he was 21.
They are old enough to get married and have kids they are in their mid twenties which is normal age to get married and have kids. My brother was married with kids when I lived with him. My mother lost her job and become homeless so I lived with my brother a couple of years.
We live in a sick world.
@@ravenc4912Old enough to have children, but it’s weird to have someone 8 years younger call you a parent. They should be one of those adoptive parents that get called by their name instead of mom and dad because they have more of a sibling relationship.
@@starchannel123 If the children are comfortable to call them mum and dad, I don't see what the problem is. Age at this point doesn't really matter. They are teachers, if they can handle over 20 kids at their day job, they are more than well equipped to raise these kids.
Their are some amazing kids in foster care like these kids. To bad hardly anyone will adppt them and give them a SAFE and loving home. I tip my hat to you for stepping up and taking on the role of parenting these kids. Though i do understand why most wont anymore.

What a beautiful story. I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who has adopted their student. My husband and I adopted two and we have a new grandson from one of them and an another coming in September. They filled our lives just as much as we filled theirs. Your blessings will come for many generations.

It’s very refreshing to see a young couple consider adoption as someone whose life plan has always included that milestone. It gives me hope for myself and for the future. They seem like great parents I wish them the best.
Both my parents and all their siblings were adopted, as well as my daughters father and 2 of his siblings. Adoption is such a selfless thing to do, especially older kids who usually just end up aging out of foster care, and keeping siblings together is wonderful as well! Truly should focus on more stories like this 💙
Adoption can also be traumatic for the children. You need to consider both sides
@theashwoodfaerie2 of course it CAN be, but it can't be worse than being passed around from house to house, new family of strangers every time, never getting to get comfortable or feel safe, being used for a paycheck. Then being kicked out of the world as an 18 year old "adult" with no family to fall back on. Granted that's not the case all the time, and there are definitely people that adopt that are awful, but you could also be in the family you were born into and still get abused or used for a paycheck. It's not that I haven't considered the other side, I just feel like more often than not, adoption is a good thing, and I wish more caring, qualified people would choose it.

This feels like one of those unusual but lovely situations. The kids seem to respect their adoptive parents and they appear to be doing a great job. I bet they'll be grandparents very young and it will be great fun for them.

I feel that!! The joy of looking at a newborn and the grief of not being able to be there for all our children sooner. But what a gift and what a blessing to be given these precious gifts, whether through birth or adoption! Our math isn't mathing in our family either, but all that matters is that God gave these children to us.
What a selfless, loving couple to aspire to foster, and adopt! They, and their children are so blessed to have one another! I think God brought those children to them, knowing that they were meant for each other!

Thank you so much for sharing your story. Ours is similar and it’s so rare to see it reflected in media. It feels good to see others who relate. Our age gap is not quite 11 years and people get sooo confused.
Some teens actually probably need someone closer to their own age. A lot of teenage life is preparing for adulthood (especially important if they've had a difficult childhood) and some of their situations are going to be more relatable to younger adults than older ones.
That's not to say that older parents can't or shouldn't foster or adopt teens, just that some of these kids need more of an older sibling type relationship than a traditional parental one.
At the end of the day, these people have been through the same training and approval process as everyone else that's doing the same thing. As long as they're able to provide what the kids in their care need, it shouldn't matter how old they are.

I can totally relate to this. My daughter was born just before I turned 20. When I was 23, I married my wife and gained 3 stepchildren. Then after our son was born, I went from 0 to 5 kids in 4 years.

A ,id's grow is so much more difficult to get adopted, so they just gave a family to them. It's lovely
I and my husband got custody of our niece and nephew and we're only 9 and 10 years older than them. And I got some comments as well with them. The most memorable is when I had to pick up my nephew from school and the secretary took one look at me and said 'You’re not old enough to have a kid here!' And I just looked at her and said 'Well, I do, and I need to check him out.' But I love them and don't regret taking them in.
