Great overview dude! I use this combinations all the time. The only thing I really don't like is the sampleimage function, because it really crazy slows down after effects. Especially on bigger comp sizes.
Hey thanks! Yeah that's true. It's weird though that some expressions slow After Effects down so much. Expressions also increase the size if the project file a lot.

Hi! Yes! That's new in After Effects 23. If you use an older version, you need to move the mask layer above the layer you want to use it on. Then choose luma or alpha track matte in the drop down menu.

On the last effect would it be possible to pull it off by using repetile or motion tile instead of duplicating the shape layer?

how do you link a track matte with a pick whip? I don't even have the option. Is it because I am on an older one?
