The brilliance of the Rocky movies is you forget you're watching a movie. You feel as if you're watching a real person's life play out. Stallone is a legend beyond words !

Rocky 1 & 2 gives us more of a nuanced character building love story between Rocky & Adrian. Rocky 3 takes a more direct action approach. We get that golden speech from Arian that validates how much they depend on each other.
As an antagonist, Clubber Lang is intended to be fairly 2 dimensional to keep the focus on Rocky's internal struggle.
Rocky's rematch with Clubber Lang starts round 1 with Rocky behaving like an Apollo Jr. Round 2 is a wake up call for Rocky that he isn't Apollo Jr. Round 3 Rocky still uses the skills he learned from Apollo, but he goes back to fighting his way.
Rocky has to prove to himself he is more than just a protected fighter under Mickey's wing. He is also more than just a trained Apollo Jr. as well. By winning the fight his way - Rocky revalidates himself mentally that he deserves to be the champion by being true to himself and his fighting nature.

Sylvester Stallone's brother, Frank Stallone, was the lead singer of the street corner "juke box" group(that sang "Take You Back") in the first 2 films. And he sang the song "Pushin' " during Rocky's training scene early in this movie. We catch a quick glimpse of him singing in that scene as well. His biggest hit was "Far From Over" from the Staying Alive soundtrack.

Leonard Newman was a famous artists from the 70's and 80's. His work on sports and stars were his better known works. The freeze frame converted to art was his. He was also in the movie. He is the man in white sketching while Apollo is training.

I had to google: "A rabbit punch is a blow to the back of the head or to the base of the skull. It is considered especially dangerous because it can damage the cervical vertebrae and subsequently the spinal cord, which may lead to serious and irreparable spinal cord injury." lol I have loved rocky for 40 years. I also love your all's reactions and recently subbed. Keep up the awesome reactions!

    1. My favorite of the Rocky movies. Rocky IV is almost as good as this.
    2. Where I lived had that pinball machine and I kicked the shit out of it. (Top 5 scores)
    3. Micky's death shakes everyone.
    4. "Eye of the Tiger" was from a band called Survivor. Their other hit was "High on You".
    5. The woman swooning over Rocky that Micky chases away was Sly's wife IRL
    6. Kudos to Mr. T for playing a man with absolutely no redeeming qualities.
    7. IRL Clubber Lang(and his ego) would be back. In movie land, been there, done that.
    8. RIP Paulie/Burt Young.😇
    9. RIP Apollo/Carl Weathers.😇

Clubbers style isn’t all that hard to counter. He basically swings for the fences with every punch, which is easier to see coming and also leaves him very vulnerable to being countered. He’s more of a street fighter then a boxer

No one has ever asked Stallone but did he intentionally create an American version of a Greek Myth as Rocky became a series? It really follows classic Greek hero myth with Apollo and Rocky.

    • @filmbenders

Going by the "feel" of the movie, 1 and 2 belong together. 3 and 4 belong together. 5 is a weaker, albeit entertaining sequel that tries to recreate the atmosphere of the first. 6 wraps it all up perfectly. Looking forward to the rest!

The photograph you flashed of Hulk Hogan supposedly standing on a platform to look much taller than Rocky is definitely fake. The out of proportion legs in that picture make that clear.
As for Hulk Hogan's actual height, they took the already exaggerated height of the Hulkster at the time (6'7" or 6'8" when he was probably legitimately 6'4" or so) and exaggerated it even more for Thunderlips (7', and 390 lbs. when Hulkster was probably around 300 and billed at 320.)

    • @filmbenders
