The song “Eye of the Tiger” originated from this film and was nominated for the Oscar for Best Original Song.
should've won smh
The song, You're The Best (Around), was also written for this movie but was abandoned until The Karate Kid.
Should have won. I don't think anybody remembers which song even won
@@VileTorture I just looked it up and the song that won is from the film “An Officer and a Gentleman” called “Up where we Belong”.
@@jamesmoyner7499 To be fair, that's an iconic love song in itself. Given that _An Officer & a Gentleman_ had a stronger Oscar presence that year, it wasn't a surprise that it beat _Rocky III_ in Original Song.
Can't wait for Rocky IV reaction. The absolute peak of 80's montages. Doesn't get better. And a terrific fight.
Rocky IV training montages are the best. The music was so perfect.
Thumbs up for Dolph Lundgren's presence as Ivan Drago.
Stallone's working on a director's cut. We gotta get Brandon to react to that when it comes out
@@pewburrito Agreed. I can't wait to check that out.
Yeah! Not the best movie overall but still a must watch and a must react to!
Nothing like a Rocky training montage. Rocky IV's are especially good.
I wrote a paper on Rocky IV's training styles in college for my intro to cinema class lol.
@@dawggirl
HA Nice.
@@dawggirl I´d like to go out with you.....
@@williamshelton4318 1985 was the year, I was born....
Rocky IV has about seventeen training montages
I pity the fool who doesn't watch this reaction.
Can I watch this one stand-alone or do I have to go back and watch I and II first?
@@dealerovski82 You can watch it and still enjoy it and the plot will still seem coherent, you will just be missing a little character context though therefore the impact of the events etc will be less.
But it definetlt isn't the type of movie that you will feel like you don't know what is going on.
When Mickey dies; the PAIN in Rocky’s voice is truly HEARTBREAKING!
Stallone is an INCREDIBLE actor! 👏
Yeah, the people who say Stallone can't act confuse me...Schwarzenegger too for that matter. There's a reason they've been around so long.
The German dub does a great job, too. I mention that often, but still not often enough!
So great
Whoever says he's a bad actor has never seen a Rocky movie besides IV or the first Rambo movie.
@@weirdguy1495 Bro, the first time I saw First Blood, I cried my eyes out! I would have never expected that ending from that movie, I have heard so many things about before (to clarify: I only first saw it a few years ago!)!
Mr T was a perfect antagonist in this movie...stole the show.
It's very hard to explain to people who already know Mr T what it was like to see him for the first time in this. There was no nice guy image. No warm funny feelings toward the man. He was a total unknown to everyone except a very few people who may have seen him in the "America's Toughest Bouncer" TV show (not a huge hit). So all moviegoers saw was this angry intimidating monster of a man. It was very effective. Then Stallone somehow pulled the SAME trick out of the bag with Dolph Lundgren in Rocky 4.
My favorite comedian Patrice Oniel was a massive movie buff, and he put Clubber as one of his top 5 movie villains of all time. Especially the "she wants a real man" stuff and then Obviously Mickey
Literally. He bought the movie rights... He didn't want people to see Rocky beating his arse...
@Tschu Backa you really rate this worse than 5? Really?
@Tschu Backa to each their own. I agree that 3 doesn't have the feel of authenticity that 1 and 2 have. But that's true of 4 as well. To me 1 and 2 are the gritty authentic ones. 3 and 4 are the spectacular over the top but hugely entertaining ones. 5 is an abomination (Stallone apparently agrees with that). 6 is okay at best. Not the mess that 5 is, but a totally unnecessary, redundant film. Both redundant back to earlier films, but also forward too, since Creed (aka, film 7) later came along and did elements of the same concepts better.
Indeed Stallone wrote Mr T’s most iconic line “I pity the fool” the man doesn’t get enough credit for his writing
As a child of the 80's, I can tell you that the Rocky pinball machine was real. Pretty decent play too.
Yup I remember playing on it in Italy
According to an interview given by Mr. T, he attended the movie's premiere with his mother. During the scene where he yells lurid remarks at Adrian, his mother turned to him and said, "I did not raise you to talk to a lady like that." She then stormed out of the theater.
Something my mom would do. 🙄
He loves his mother....and it you watch his WWE Hall Of Fame speech he mentions it about 20 times.
🤣
Or you could just reference Mr t's song about mother's
yes that is real
😂 cute
The tone changes drastically in this one, from the story of a hungry boxer struggling to survive, to comfort and complacency.
He changed the passion for glory...
Stallone said the movies reflect where he was in his life at the time....
Mr. T looked incredible in this movie. I truly was worried that he was gonna kill Rocky when I first saw this movie.
As a 10 year-old kid watching this at the theater, I was genuinely terrified of that man
Yes, "Eye of the Tiger" was written for Rocky III at the request of Sylvester Stallone after Queen wouldn't let him use "Another One Bites the Dust".
Akbar Shabazz-Jenkins 😂
"I pity the fool" also ended up as his catch phrase in A-team so it got even more popular and attached to his character.
Now you can finally see the masterpiece that is Rocky 4 lol
Rocky IV is silly as fuck
Hype.
Easily my favourite. It's montages are next level.
It is cheesy to the bone, but it is indeed very entertaining
@@DDChorror that's why it's so fucking good
Rocky 4 is also a masterpiece and the score is also amazing. Anyone who thinks of Stallone as just a jacked action star needs to watch this and respect Stallone as acting legend and more. A gift to this generation and many more to come
Best quote in the movie ***What do you predict? PAIN ***
I dunno....I kind of like "You better call Bob Hope" too....
Clubber, what are your predictions for the fight? Predictions?? Painnnnnnnn.....
"I pity the fool" is pretty much Mr. T's catchphrase, he used to say it all the time haha
It's from this movie.
And now he has even trademarked it.
i had the Mr. T pull string talking action figure in the 80's he said I pity tha fool - Murdock you're crazy - study hard in school - always listen to your parents . i wish i still had it, pretty sure i sold it in a garage sale for like a dollar...
I think Stallone's reputation as an action movie guy distracted the public from how good an actor he can be
Bruh had me dead when he’s like “that giant dude is just killing everybody in sight” hahaha
During work, all I could think was this video being posted today. Haven’t clicked on it faster, few minutes after work. CANT WAIT FOR ROCKY 4!!!
Me too. You could say my hearts on fire.
Yes, 4 now please!!!!
This is actually my favourite Rocky movie.
I think it has the perfect balance of entertainment and drama
I think what is great about the series (first 4) is there is a split on what our favourite is but we can absolutely appreciate why others would pick one of the other 3.
@Rob G Nice joke.
Saw this at the cinema as a kid and me and my friend shadow boxed a mile home afterwards with Eye Of The Tiger playing in our heads. :D
A mile on foot or cardrive?
As an 8 year old I remember mimicking the whole fight in our front room 😂
One thing for you to know before you watch Rocky IV, Stallone almost died while they were filming the final fight. He wanted it to be as real as possible so he had his opponent throw real punches. Stallone took a straight shoot to the chest that bruised his heart and had to be flown from British Columbia, where the movie was being filmed, to L.A. where he spent a week in the ICU because of the damage to his heart. When he was released from the hospital the studio told him that no more real punches could be thrown while filming the final fight.
maintaining for two to three weeks solid while filming the final fight a 3% total body mass of fat probably didn't do him any favors either less fat less cushion to take hits.
But my God this man is as close to Goku in real life when it comes to determination at training and just pure heart
Shit, I wouldn't want a young Dolph Lundgren throwing real punches at me. Lol I have heard that before though
Rocky 3 is my favorite of the Rocky sequels (aside from Creed). I love how it humanizes Apollo even more & seeing him become close friends with Rocky is so damn satisfying. Clubber Lang is a fantastic character too, I've always seen him as the first true antagonist (and the best) in the Rocky franchise. Apollo may have been Rocky's opponent, but they were never enemies.
I feel like that ending scene was a nod to those epic closed door gym matches you hear about. The imagination takes over the story of how amazing it was and it's left at that, legendary in everyone's mind.
I really enjoy this Rocky, because it's great to see two people at odds come together to become friends. I've actually had that happen quite a few times in my life.
It was never personal in the first 2 Rocky's. At least for Rocky. They were never at odds.
@@danielwong5378 I didn’t say anything about it being personal. If you go to fight someone, I’d say that’s at odds. Professional, or not.
@@danielwong5378 It doesn't have to be personal. Rocky and Creed respect each other and deep down admire each other's tenacity. Rocky was the underdog that wanted to prove himself to the favorite Creed.
@@lelouchvibritannia4028 ...Which contradicts your first comment.
@@danielwong5378 Are you dumb? I only had one comment until this one.
I grew up with these movies. I was 12 in 1982 and it’s amazing how much these movies move me still. Rocky was my hero, and when I broke my neck playing football and was paralyzed from the neck down, and told I would never walk again, the Rocky story would go through my mind. Whenever I would go to therapy, I would tell myself you have to have the eye of the tiger. Yes these movies were so important.
Legend you made me😢
@@gareththomas3143 not sure what you’re trying to say
@@joerhea9340 you made me cry a little because of your story. Was t it self explanatory enough. ?
I see it now actually, my grammes doesn't help but after legend, there was supposed to be a comma. Also I'm in the UK and your thumbnail has exceptional teeth so you must be from L.A . Or somewhere like that .lol only joking
@@gareththomas3143 sorry. I was thrown off by you calling me Legend. And I was paying attention I guess to the emoji.
19:21 "How did you get so tough?"
"I live with a fighter"
With that Rocky music in the background
Til this day always hits me in the feels
"He'll knock ya into tomorrow Rock!" Definitely my fav of the series! IV has it's defenders, and well...you'll get to V...
Hey 5 still has its quotes. "You knocked him down. Why don't you try knocking me down now. My ring's outside."
We do not speak of V unless it's Halloween and you're trying to scare the children.
I really like Rocky V. "Now get up, cuz Micky loves ya" "Hey yo Tommy...I didn't hear no bell"
He'll knock ya into tomorrow ... Then whoop ya ass for leaving 😂
Rocky finding out that his record was padded by easy fights was a great plot device to give him motivation. Then you add in Mickey's death and Apollo wanting to also kick Clubbers ass and it really works. Eye of the Tiger baby!
I reccomend the warriors from 1979,great cult classic
That’s such a good movie! Definitely second this
30 something yrs later, I still cried when Micky died & Rocky heartbroken. 💔😭
Me too bro everytime..it's just one of the most ironic and sad moments in the history of movies..Oscar deserving acting by genius Stallone ❤️
7:25 "Paulie's telling the truth that nobody else will." Dude, that made me burst out laughing 😂. Yes, good ol' Paulie pulling no punches.
Mr. T was one of the biggest icons of the 80's. He was on the A-Team. He made appearances on every big show. He always went to events to encourage kids. He even had his own cold cereal. "I Pity the Fool" was his catch phrase.
During filming Sylvester Stallone said hulk Hogan showed him some actual submission grappling moves.
Hogan knows submission grappling moves? Serious question.
@@briankarcher8338 can't find the article but I remember reading that he had learned submission grappling moves from Japanese catch wrestlers when he was in Japan.
Leg drop baby
Brian Karcher oh yeah, Hulk got in big trouble for putting a front face headlock on that tv host Richard Belzer on live tv, Belzer passed out pretty quickly and fell backwards smashing his head on the studio floor and leaked pretty badly.
Akbar Shabazz-Jenkins he did on Richard Belzer, google it.
That last run where Rocky beats Creed always makes me laugh. You can clearly see that Stallone is running as hard as he can and Weathers is running at slightly faster than a jog, but we're meant to believe that Stallone can out run him? LOL!
You know a montage is great when you can hear during the scenes without sounds.
Now comes the time for Rocky 4. One of the greatest films ever made.
You're having a Carl Weathers week between this and him in The Mandalorian.
Add a couple of Carl Weathers and baby, you got a stew going!
@@ianrhodes6928 I think I want my money back..
Rocky, Apollo, and Mick are all great; but there’s something special about seeing Adrian who got her confidence with Rocky’s help become his rock instead, being able to give him his confidence back when he’s lost Mick. But the bromance between Rocky and Apollo is legendary too...
If you’ve never seen Airplane I’d love to see your reaction to it, laughs galore and something I’d love to see you react to!!
I've seen this movie 100's of times since I was a little boy and Mickey's death scene still has me wondering who the hell is chopping onions.
I highly recommend you to watch Trainspotting 1996
This and requiem for a dream are my fav drug movies.
Oh hell yeah!
How about Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas?
Trainspotting is great, also has a surprisingly good sequel
I feel like maybe Danny Boyle could be the next director Brandon could watch every movie of, as his movies have such consistent quality, yet span so many different styles.
Been waiting on this one forever
YESS! I've been waiting for this reaction!
Mr. T is in this film as Clubber Lang!
No shit sherlock
Really? I guess you learn something new every day.
I’d like to suggest “Amadeus”, a movie about Mozart.
Both leads were nominated for “Best Actor”, one of them won.
My only issue with the movie is that it apparently is nobody near historically accurate. In a case like this I can't really look past that as it is pretending to portray actual historical people and events :(
Fun trivia: T's mum stormed out of the premiere after hearing his character's language to Adrian at the statue unveiling. Apparently she cuffed him round the head and yelled,
"I didn't raise you to talk to a lady like that!"
"Eye of the Tiger" was recorded at the request of Stallone, after Queen denied him permission to use "Another One Bites the Dust", the song Stallone intended as the Rocky III theme
Am I the only one feverishly refreshing my RUclips feed on Thursday night waiting for the next Breaking Bad rewatch to drop?
i love that theses events come back into play in CREED.
Rocky 4 is a cold war movie.
A Soviet movie.....
Before "Eye of The Tiger" became the song for this movie, it was originally going to be the song "You're The Best" that went on to be used in the first "The Karate Kid" movie instead. It was used in the montage of the tournament of that movie.
This movie was very responsible for Hulk Hogan becoming as popular in wrestling as he would eventually become. He was somewhat well known, but he used the movie to push him into a good guy, he would come out to Eye of the Tiger in smaller territories before eventually being hired by Vince McMahon Jr. to be the main attraction of the WWF. Hogan was working for Vince McMahon Sr. when the role in this movie got offered to Hogan and he told Hogan to not do the movie. Hogan chose the movie and Vince Sr. fired him for it and it was only when Vince Jr. took over for his dad that he hired Hogan back. Sylvester Stallone and Hogan remained friends after this and Stallone even introduced (brought Hogan out) when Hogan was inducted to the WWF/WWE Hall of Fame.
When Stallone portrays Rocky he's a brilliant actor, but mostly when he plays other characters, including John Rambo, he's an action star. Every one of the "Rocky" movies are the colors of boxing and the character development of Balboa, a beautiful thing to watch. The definitive sports series.
Brandon, I know everyone is saying skip “Rocky V” but for story continuity you should watch it after “Rocky IV”. When you get to “Rocky Balboa” the story will make sense with no questions. I enjoy the whole series and Rocky is such a great character. I think you’d enjoy the “Creed” films as well. 🥊
creed 1 is IMO as good as the first rocky
@@jimbeam212007 It’s extremely good. I was surprised by how well it was written and directed. Ryan Coogler really respected the history of the Rocky films and it showed. Even Sylvester Stallone said he was impressed by Coogler and his story for the film before he officially signed on.
@@CR41489 Coogler has not disappointed yet!
@@jimbeam212007 Sorry. It's excellent but Rocky Balboa is one of the greatest characters of all time.
Agreed. He should watch it just for the train wreck. It starts terrible and somehow ends worse.
Rocky is such a great writer , the last fight is basically a man facing his fear. Clubber represents it so well, never backs down, it will creep in anyway possible like a raging bull ready to drop you.. but you got to face it, head strong and realise it won't bring you down, it is "nothing", that's when Rocky switches, ain't getting scared anymore the gear frantically trying it's big swings..but it is too late, Rocky is able to duck, swing and fight it back and knock it out. What a metaphor presented in a fight.
One of my legit earliest memories was watching my dad smoking a cigarette whilst watching Paulie destroy that Rocky arcade game. I think I was about 2.
Just found the channel recently, it's amazing seeing someone watch Rocky 3 for the first time. I remember it from forever.
"I thought you said be cool?" "That was cool!!"
35 Years ago TODAY (27-11-20), Rocky IV was released and the world cheered once again for the Italian Stallion. Rocky IV is another great addition to the franchise and delivers another entertaining knockout of a movie. One of my personal favorites.
Another great reaction! I love your Rocky reactions and I can't wait for more. This was before Mr.T and Hulk Hogan were stars. Stallone has an eye for talent.
Regarding the Rocky statue, the one used in the movie was originally placed at the top of the Art Museum steps (where it appears in the movie), but the curators of the museum didn't see that statue as art, they saw it as a movie prop and said it didn't belong at an _art_ museum. It was subsequently moved to outside the now demolished Philadelphia Spectrum, where both of the Rocky/Apollo fights were set (they were actually filmed in L.A.). The city finally reached an agreement with the museum and the statue was moved to its current location at the foot of the museum's steps.
Note that this statue was moved back to the Art Museum for the filming of "Rocky V", then back to the Spectrum and finally to its current location at the museum prior to the Spectrum's demolition between November 2010 and May 2011 (it was not imploded).
Woo! Rocky 4 is next!
I was 10 when this came out and Eye of the Tiger was on repeat play in my tape player. My sister told me at the time that I wouldn't even remember the song in a few years. 38 years later and it still pumps me up.
When you get round to the fourth one remember the time it was made 1985 during the cold war.......... I 'll leave it at that.
My personal favourite rocky. Along with many others. Glad you finally got around to it. Keep up the awesome reactions!
For me, Million Dollar Baby is the greatest boxing movie there ever will be. A masterclass of emotions, defeat, and success.
Perfect movie!
I love how when rocky first fights clubber, Rocky can’t keep eye contact with him and clubber is staring him down the whole time. But in the second fight it’s switched.
One of the best endings

If you think beating Clubber Lang was a big win for Rocky you'll lose your mind when he wins The Cold War.
See “Raging Bull”, the acting of De Niro in this Movie is mind blowing...
I forgot how much louder Adrienne is in this movie I love her glow up !
I never understood why Clubber wasn’t arrested for manslaughter of Mickey.
Come on, it was time for Mickey to go either way. Clubber really just pushed him around a little.
There was still an hour left in the movie.
@Ricardo Alonso Rojas that’s why it’s manslaughter and not homicide
Thunderlips beat up cops and civilians! He should've been jumped by the police when they were posing for photographs after the fight 😂😂😂
It was the 80's.
This is probably my favorite Rocky movie. I think Stallone hit the perfect balance of crowd pleasing movie and a movie that goes a little deeper than superficial entertainment. Mr T and Hulk Hogan add to the entertainment value. Both could have just come across as gimmick casting but they delivered.
When Mick said “it’s your head kid” do you think he was foreshadowing Rockys brain damage?
Yeah, I think that was the main reason why he wanted Rocky to retire.
In 1982 my dad adopted a shepard puppy with a silvery coat and a black streak from his forehead to the back of his neck, it looked like a mohawk, so we named him Mr.T. A couple years later he had pups with our pitbull Bree, one of them looked more like pitbull and had a mohawk-like streak on his head, only silvery on a darker coat, he was named Stripe after the evil leader of the Gremlins.
Man,been waitin for this one!
Sly wrote the role of Clubber Lang for Mr T after seeing him box on NBC. Mr T had been on some game/stunt shows. Toughest man style competitions ending in boxing matches. Sly saw them and wrote the role for him. Mr T's signature catch phrase was inspired by Mr T's real life words to Bryant Gumbel in one of those TV shows. Mr T told him, "I just feel sorry for the guy who I have to box. I just feel real sorry for him." Sly turned that into, "I pity the fool." And history was made.
5:17 That is no camera trick. Stallone is 5'10" and Terry "Hulk" Hogan is 6'7".
A reaction of Dead Poets Society
Oh captain, my captain! RIP Robin Williams... we are still waiting for the Good Will Hunting reaction too...
Hands down my favourite *Rocky* movie. Given that Balboa's heart and determination are his biggest strength, I love how Rpcky doesn't just take a beating and keep going and giving it all. He also absolutely batters Clubber Lang. He uses his intelligence and speed and eventually just dismantles Lang. I think 'Eye of the Tiger' *Rocky III* Rocky is in his prime and would have even given Apollo a much harder fight.
WE NEED A INGLORIOUS BASTERDS REACTION🚨
I love how they did this movie. Rocky has become a star and gotten soft you might say. Then they show Mr. T who is basically training rough like Rocky was doing and really wanting to be the best.
Anyone else hyped for the fourth movie reaction? Or just me

Rocky IV is where the franchise went completely off the deep end. It is so incredibly cheesy and stupid - but I love it! I friggin' LOVE it. It is so wonderfully entertaining.
I pity the foo who don't eat my breakfast cereal!
Eye of the Tiger was written specifically for the movie. Survivor (the band) is remembered mostly for that song but was a very talented band that had quite a few hits and great albums in the 80s. Jim Peterik is a genius!
Next up: "I will CRUSH you!" IV
My favourite! I ABSOLUTELY *LOVE* IT!
"I must break you"
If he dies, he dies.
"You will lose"
As Mick said, hand-picked doesn't mean setups. Rocky legitimately beat those guys, it was just that Micky was pushing him toward guys he was fairly sure he could beat. And to be fair, most managers of top fighters do that. Mickey isn't unusual in that. That's why sanctioning title bodies mandate #1 contenders every so often.
Yo, Adrian I did it!
Not sure if anyone has said this. Rocky is the story of Chuck Wepner. A nobody boxer that nearly went the distance with Ali. This was the inspiration for Rocky I. Chuck Wepner once had a charity match against Andre the Giant. That was the inspiration for this match against a little known Hulk Hogan...
Also...Mr. T's character is supposed to be based on Mike Tyson, who was blowing up at the time.
FYI...there is a good ESPN 30 for 30 about Chuck Wepner
Show a lot of things happening at once
Remind everybody of what's going on
And with every shot, show a little improvement
To show it all would take too long
We're gonna need a montage ! Even Rocky got a montage !
I finally watched these movies so now I can come and enjoy your reactions.
Rocky IV is the best in the series!
One of the best sequels in the saga.
The most fun Sly ever had making a film as I've heard.
Mr.T at the beginning of his supertough prime.
Burgess Meredith as Mickey for one last time was so heartfelt.
The final scenes are so golden.
At one point, this was going to be the last film.
Been wondering if you were gonna do this one. I’ve been recently rewatching the movies with my younger brother (we’re on the 4th one right now).
