Because of it being a Tri-Ace game and they usually tie their worlds/stories together; I have a feeling End of Eternity takes place during/after Star Ocean 4. Basel is the atmospheric cleanser for Earth after it got nuked at the start of Star Ocean 4. I'm pretty sure that's what's going on.
I remembered playing this game forever ago on my 360 and not fully understanding the mechanics and getting stuck on the escorting the idol mission (anyone who's played it knows what Im talking about, and how terrible that mission is). I recently found out about the remaster and lost my shit when I saw it was released on PC too. I picked it up a couple weeks ago and have been absolutely loving it. I breezed through the mission that I got stuck on. I'm currently on chapter 7 or 8 right now, and still loving it.
I just wish we get a follow up to this. It has so much potential and better than Final Fantasy these days imo. The best thing about it is the combat and characters, which very few Jrpgs got those right. Sure the story doesn't make any sense, but so does most Jrpgs. At least, in this one the characters are hilarious. The trio just got that chemistry, man. They're perfect party.
This looks like a freaking awesome game. I really like the sepia tones and the steampunk aspects. And you say by the same people who did Star Ocean: The Second Story? Even better! I am sad that I never heard of this game! Star Ocean: The Second Story was my favorite game! Though the main reason I liked it was because of the "private actions" and how one can influence the game story and alter it. But this still looks sweet. I must play this now. Thanks for the video.
This game is just so unique in it's combat and world mechanics. I had this before and got stuck went to other games but then the system crapped and I couldn't finish it. Years later finally able to download it and try it again.
I found out about this game in recent PSN sale and the colors/style is what catch my eye in the first place. I love it (loved similar style in Nier Automata), it went straight into my "Best games ever" box, together with Legend of Dragoon, Xenogears, FF7 and Nier (both games).
I loved Basil as a setting, and this game. It was difficult and had a learning curve, and the story was very difficult to follow unless you play it multiple times and pay close attention. But it was such a great jrpg. I played RoF and Lost Odyssey around the same time, and while I liked Lost Odyssey too, I remember my 3 playthroughs of Resonance of Fate so much more. I just wish the game had received a sequel that improved and iterated upon what the first game established, specifically more guns and more ways to use them so every fight didn't devolve into literally running and gunning. I'm quite sad there was never a Resonance of Fate 2.
I love Resonance of Fate, my only complaint with this game is that it seems to revolve on Leanne instead of Team Vashyron as a whole. It does not go in depth with Vashyron and what he is supposed to do as a "Knight of Zenith" or how Zephyr went crazy and started killing everyone in the Seminary (I have read online that Zephyr, like Leanne, is a test subject for Sullivan but I have found no cutscene in the game that confirms this). I would regard the story as anti-climatic for the questions that the plot-twist left unanswered, despite this the Lore displayed a great sense of potential. Team Vashyron is one of my most beloved Trios; Vashyron, a hilarious and witty playboy, Zephyr, an edge-lord who I see as a teenage Wolverine, and Leanne, with the innocence, naivety & pacifism so child-like I mistook her for being the youngest of the group, but with all 3 of them teamed-up together they form into 1 perfect half-wit.
I tried to play this game three times but got hung up early on. Even tried using online guides. There's a huge obstacle for me to overcome in playing it. Still proud to own it, being the JRPG junkie I am.
Scott's Game Asylum yeah it’s very good but it’s very repetitive yet satisfying and the story is fun to watch as you progress like the cut scenes I think the game mechanics is what makes the game fun and the map with the hex’s most people would give up trying to learn this game I tried to skip the dreadful tutorial but realized I needed it lol
I think the thing that struck me hardest with RoF was the setting. It oozes atmosphere and really sucks you in if you let it. It just has that je nais ce quoi missing in a lot of JRPG's.
Both Resonance of Fate and Final Fantasy XIII are some of my favorite games of all time. I get the comparisons to FFXIII but I wish everyone praising RoF didn’t shit on FFXIII at the same time.
An SRPG published by SEGA, man this is what Shining Force could have evolved to be instead of dying on the Saturn with a slow ass disappointment that we only got half of outside Japan, and then Sonic Software Planning/Camelot being bought by Nintendo and sent to the Mario sports mines for eternity
Exactly idk why most games had grey or limited color during the xbox 360 and ps3 era. Also I definitely agree the tutorials are full on a$s, I barely understood the game when I first played and the story didn't help either. These are the games to my memory that had that color issue: Mass Effect Fallout 3 Resident Evil 5 Alan Wake Left 4 Dead GTA 4 Call of Duty MGS4 Heavy Rain
Awesome review! I really like the way you speak and I actually find you interesting (and your accent is very pleasant to listen to as well!). I subscribed, please keep making reviews!! Game sounds great too. It's on a sale on the PS store right now and this review really made me want to pick it up.
The story is fresh.. but if you play with no walkthrough, you will miss 75% of the stuff in this game :/ Hate how they made all those quest so time sensitive. Got tired at about 2/3 of the game.
Looks pretty awesome, I wish I set aside time to play new games, but I haven't finished the old ones. I might just grab some walkthroughs and power through a few
As overused as Nolan North was for quite a while there, I actually really like the dude's voice acting. I have really wanted to check this game out for years now. Its gameplay seems so interesting! Yet every time I'm about to buy it, its extremely drab visual style stops me. One of these days I'll get around to it. One day. EDIT: That mix of music and that background from Silent Hill 4 during the outro is utterly hilarious to me. Great stuff. ^^
I can take Nolan in small doses. Anything longer than that then I want to gouge my ears out. RoF has a lot going for it past it's graphics and it's a lot lighter in time than it looks.
@@ScottsGameAsylum I know the feeling - I absolutely can't stand Yuri Lowenthal's voice myself. Some people's voices are just annoying for whatever reason. I think I'm still haunted by the memories of the early-to-mid PS3/360 era aesthetics. I WILL get around to it, for sure. Great review, btw!
I picked this up on sale at EB games back in high school because the name looked edgy and i was all for edgy JRPGs (still am tbh). Found it hard as balls and gave up. 8 years later and I decided to give it another shot and god damn I miss the characters. I admit the story isn't the greatest (I watched the cutscenes when I initially gave up) but I just love the banter between the trio and how over the top the game is. Like it's Metal Gear Rising level over the top and that's fucking amazing
I love this game. I feel there’s no other game like it but it is a love and hate type of game. Definitely no cake walk regardless of how easy the mechanics are
This game was awesome despise the graphics that were a bit meh and the tutorial that took an hour to complete. But once you get the hang of the mechanism, my gosh it's fun. Don't ignore the tutorial like it's been said in this vid or you'll regret it big time. The characters were deep and fun to travel with from beginning to end, a truly good experience and so much better than FFXIII.
ih wish they make a second game with same combat system but more complex in terms of upgrade mechanics how we develop our chars ltos of stuff to do endgame stuff and so on would instand buy it
Well it seems that most reviews are overtly harsh for the sake of entertainment value. Which kind of sucks. Yes there is a ton of crap to deal with but there is also a unique game you don't get anywhere else.
I wrote a glowing review for it back in the day. I was so enchanted with the game (got plat on it) I ignored all the negative stuff about the drab graphics, weird story, the boring arena trophy and the tutorial. But I remember the tutorial made me cry with frustration when I started the game: the gameplay seemed impossibly difficult.
The graphics looked amazing at the time. It's just the art style that sucked. No colors at all. Huge mistake. No saturation at all. So muted. Such a waste man
You didn't mention the TriAttack lol, once you figured that out you could absolutely bully all the enemies. I didn't realise I got so far into this game when I played it, I remember the Christmas mission haha, would have finished it all but m PS3 died.
lately, many games get remastered not only for easy bucks but also to see how well it goes and if there is a market for the game so if the remaster did well I hope we get the sequel also, I bought the game on steam and it run terribly for some reason and I'm not the only one, many people have stutter in fps and sound which is terrible, I almost refund it, luckily I manage to somehow make it work and now it run smoothly but even then overall it got overall positive review
It's not a bad game it just story takes, ages to get interesting for most part you just do odd jobs, and the gameplay never evolves and every battle plays the same

This game will be the next Earthbound or Chrono Trigger. Buy copies if you can get them for cheap.
I would say yeah. But now it's on the PC I don't know if it will have that kind of appeal.
