- VOCES8 sings 'O Nata Lux' by Thomas Tallis in St. Bartholomäus-Kirche, Pegnitz, Germany.
TEXT
O nata lux de lumine,
Jesu redemptor saeculi,
Dignare clemens supplicum
Laudes precesque sumere.
Qui carne quondam contegi
Dignatus es pro perditis,
Nos membra confer effici
Tui beati corporis.
TRANSLATION
O Light born of Light,
Jesus, redeemer of the world,
with loving-kindness deign to receive
suppliant praise and prayer.
Thou who once deigned to be clothed in flesh
for the sake of the lost,
grant us to be members
of thy blessed body.
Dear God! The best composer, the best choir, in the place with the best acoustics. Thank you Voces8 for making the world so much more beautiful!
I have sung this piece many times before and heard it performed by some of the best choral groups around. However, this rendition 'aces them all' with its purity of tone, clarity, balance and blend. It's remarkable that not one voice overshadows the others, producing a stunning vocal effort. I expect nothing less from VOCES8, as their renderings of everything they sing is always truly exceptional. I'm in heaven every time I listen to them. Thank you, VOCES8!
I was about to write something similar - every recording I'm just blown away all over again.
@@mtiedemann11 My experience exactly...
Me too. Thank you VOCES8 for the beauty and peace you offer.
The beauty and purity of this performance is very moving.
Quelles voix pures ! Toujours aussi splendide ce chœur.
OOH DAMN THEM CROSS RELATIONS ARE THE THOMAS TALLIS SECRET SAUCE
La perfection, une fois encore, l'expression des visages, l'acoustique, et ce timbre si particulier et reconnaissable de la soprano, Andrea Haines. C'est comme s'il reliait le ciel à notre coeur
This beautifully music bridges earth with heaven. Thank you. Very moving.
The rising tension in that last phrase, dear sweet LORD. The way corporis is stretched out and it builds dissonance on dissonance until it finally resolves was just exquisite.
I was in the audience in Pegnitz. A wonderful concert experience. Simply unique!
i genuinely feel sorry for people who don't 'get' this, and that's not meant to be as a music snob, but if the sheer aching beauty of it doesn't move you're already dead.
I also admire music and performers. Really outstanding, specially, how intense and SLOW they celebrate the incredible dissonance (I only know in German: Querstand) at the penultimate stroke. This is so special about the english music of this time - and really great to hear and to enjoy the tension and when it releases...
Voces8 is always fantastic, but this.....gorgeous. Human perfection.
Now THAT is how you write a perfect cadence!!!
Stunning.
… Also, Tallis was into some bizarre cadences.
My soul needed to hear this music and read the words just now. Thank you for restoring my inner peace this day.
Let's see much more beautiful english text:
O light of light
Now born as man
Jesu, redeemer of us
We now beseech on bended knee
That you accept our lowly plea.
You who took on our human flesh
Who for our sins died on the cross.
Let us unworthy though we be
Mingle our lives and thoughts with Thee.
Шикарное, профессиональное пение, красивая полифония, хочется слушать постоянно.
That's really beautiful. I love the dissonance in Tallis' works, so tightly performed here, too.
Sehr gut, dankeschön. 🎶🇩🇪
Every time i listen to you i feel like i'm in heaven 🙏🏻🙏🏻
One of my favourite pieces by Tallis which was sung at my wedding (to the bemusement of some guests). Voces8, as always, have sung this beautifully!
I thank our God that He allowed me to taste the beauty of Heaven through your singing... what chords, what combination of voices, i wish in Heaven I could listen to such choir like voces8 🤩
Bleibt gesund!!!
Das ist einfach atemberaubend schön.
A slam-dunk. If I had to chose ONE vocal group, or any group, to listen to for the duration, at the exclusion of all others, it would be voces8.
Beautiful rendition of a Tallis gem. Lovely shading without that terrible wallowing in treacle sound sometimes heard.
Marvellous ever Voces8
Angels in earth
Amazingly beautiful, as always! It cannot be possible to hear this piece performed any better than this.
My goodness, tears in my eyes...
Merci à vous tous vraiment très beau... à bientôt Matt
That has to be the loveliest recording I’ve ever heard
That chord at 1:47 (happens earlier as well) is hard to pull off correctly to where it sounds wrong and right at the same time, bravo. I'm consistently amazed by the talent in this group and the perfection in which they perform, it is truly top notch. Also, there are beautiful churches everywhere in the world but Germany has some of the most beautiful I've seen!
Are they using quarter tones? I would like to understand because I was shocked to hear it.
@@paulwwells Quarter tones? This is a so called english cadence, google to understand it. Soprano sings f#, tenor2 sings f-natural, than Bass sings d and tenor2 an e-flat. This makes the friction.
@@xabulidema9454Thank you. Augmented octaves explains the dissonance. I'll look out for some other examples, but I don't think I'm going to get used to it any time soon.
Thank You Voces8 For This Beautiful Gift Of Tallis's Music ❤
that false relation at the end is always an ear turner. Such a beautiful performance.
😮 wow. Speechless. Such tight diction and articulation. The final dissonance…sublime, magical, heavenly!!
Simply gorgeous!
Exquisite as always. Thanks, you lovely people.
If I didn’t have access to your videos, my life wouldn’t be as rich! You are the very best of the best!
Sublime
A beautiful performance, as always!
Just gorgeous
I have goosebumps listening to this.
Gorgeous song and acoustics ❤
i cry every time
Well! As a layperson, the way that ended was not what I expected, and I liked all the better for it - SO beautiful!
Oh wow. Stunning. Bell-like tuning. ❤
I am very amazed, how can human beings be able to do something like this?? Everything is perfect, but it doesn't Sound only like clean perfection, it is just living and beautiful ❤️
Thank you for the beautiful music.
Happy we'll still have a backlog of recordings with Johnny for a while. But I also know the next bass will be just as good!
Uma admirável e belíssima artesania este canto, está música, o congraçamento. Uma honra recebê-los, uma alegria escutá-los..Aguardando-os, sempre.
Just brilliant! Thank you, @Voces8
Marvelous rendition!
Beautiful start for the day after Ash Wednesday for the Lenten season.
Das beste Vocalensemble der Welt
Beautiful
Who is taking Johnny’s place? Big shoes to place. Awesome performance. So classy
Gracias. Hacéis música que nos eleva
The soprano is spotlighting the text. Very astonishing harmonic at the end.
Muchas gracias ❤
Lovely
Wow
Thomas made sure there was a lot of tension before the final release.
Sempre magici!!! 👏👏👏🙏
Дякую! Молодці!
One word only, "Unreal"!!!!
Cadence @ 1min44 is soooo. bad ass...
Simply beautiful and so uplifting 😊
Heavenly
Soulful and moving. Great production qualities.
That cadence at the end was so bizarre and cool!
Vielen Dank für den Gesang, 😊❤️
Why don't more choirs really lean into the false relation at the end? It's amazing. To confirm: I'm saying I really liked this 😀
I love the subtle way you handled the English cadences.
Exquisite - thank you Voces8 and a Happy New Year to you all.
Love this piece, I hope you all do the Lamentations of Jeremiah someday!
Loved your performance on your old Lux album and loved this one! I appreciate that you guys took the time to record a new performance rather than recycle your old one.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🙏🌟🌟🌟🌟
Wow! What a place to record the sound and video! Great job!
Wow 🤩
Ethereal beauty
I need a video like this with the Morten Lauridsen version!
❤
I think the perfection of your voices would suit Lotti’s Crucifixus. The dissonance there could pierce concrete. Really praying to hear your version of the 6 or 8 (or somehow 10) part versions. ❤
Bravi tutti, manca un po' la pronuncia delle "r" ma il suono è davvero caldo e avvolgente. Bravi! 👋🏻😊
❤❤
2:07 of heaven.
Oh, but to perform with such a group.
Beautiful! :-) But why were you arranged in that order (SAATSTBB)? Was that a decision based on height, maybe?
Thanks for the question. We do this because Katie and Molly share a part, Barney and Blake share a part, Jonny and Chris share a part, and we like for Andrea’s high descant line to be snug in the middle of the group’s sound.
@@VOCES8 Is Euan, like Andrea, therefore singing his own part? This is the most heavenly music
@@alisonalcock5218 That is, maybe, because Euan wanted to dance with Andrea, but she did not want?
A couple of really juicy dissonances. Does anybody know was that Tallis or Voces8's interpretation?
Those spicy cross relations are indeed Tallis. You can find them in most of his works.
Definitely Tallis!
sorry ‘fill” lol
WOW! Like a blood relative imposter, this is so full of false relations
I felt absolutely nothing... super talented singers, of course, but I feel this piece was a bit too vanilla for your brand. I still am a fan tho 🥰
Sublime
