You must be so proud of all your hard work. And it shows! Amazing!!!
Well did not expect this to be posted at 2 am
This is so cool. So accomplished. There’s like no chance I will do this but I am so glad someone knows how!
You’ve done such a good job on this house!!
Everything looks great! Loving the transformation of this place. Job well done!
Good morning folks!!!! Hey i just wanted to tell you that it was so nice seeing yur parents in the vlog a few days back! We love when we get to see them!!!! Everything is coming together so keep up the good work!!!! I am hoping that you and Bonnie move into this house once it's done! 😊👍
We literally just installed vinyl plank floor in the bathroom last weekend! Wish this had been up then, haha. Although we didn’t have baseboards on we did have to go around door trim.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. I don't see any renovation in the near future, but it's fun to watch anyway.
Thank you for sharing, I’ve helped my husband lay flooring and it’s a tuff job because it’s stop go wait lol But watching you do this made it look easy... Thanks for the tips..
Wow the comparison to before is already impressive! Great Job Joel! Greeting Hoellein's! Thank you for giving me something to look forward to with both of your channels yall are truly a blessing 🙏 ❤
This is the exact video I was hoping you’d do on Today’s Task. I’m wanting to tackle this in my house.
Great job Jarrod!!! We put vinyl flooring in our house after we had a flood occur last Oct. Chose to put in your entire home on the main floor and stairs and hallway. Starting to look SUPER nice. However, we had a flooring guy do it for us and he was smooth like you when it came to put the flooring in!! Thank you ☺️ for what you do!! You can tell you do it with your heart and soul!! Love it!!
Joel
This is exactly what I was looking for! Was struggling to tuck the planks under baseboards while trying to get them flush..thanks man!
They can be brutal.
Can you talk about the textured walls?? House looks great.
Sure, We do this in old houses because it hides the flaws. Trying to make the walls perfectly smooth is super expensive, and takes a lot longer.
Beautiful! Love that big window ❤️
Great video to help us out thank you for posting.
The most impressive part of this remodel is the fact that you actually bought the house. I can't find one property that isn't over priced or snatched up by sharks.
The house is looking good! Have a bless day.
Good job Mr. H
Hey Joel!! Love that you have a DIY channel. We are looking to replace our carpet with LVP and carpet and will be using your videos for reference
We have the type of flooring in our bathroom and living room. We are renevating our upstairs now but we are putting carpet in all the rooms, new drywall and insulation, hard wood throughout the rest of the house. We are also redoing our kitchen and the rest of our dinning room. Then when it gets warmer, we are fixing all the windows in the house and the siding. (Out house was a barn and built into a house by my grandparents in 1960). It's old so the house needs redone
That is so cool. You will love the end results and get frustrated throughout, but it will be worth it.
@@TodaysTask yes. It is frustrating at times but like you said, it'll all be worth it!!!
Love you so much from traverse City Michigan 💕
It would feel so awesome to have the flooring done! It looks great good job Joel :D
I was losing my mind over getting my vinyls underneath the baseboard. No matter what i did I couldn't get it straight. Thanks for the tip!
Will you put carpet on lay floor? When coming up another new video about carpet? Bedroom and other room.
Good job Joel
Good method - but a couple of thougths - I can’t glue the last piece to the floor because that negates the idea of a floating floor - instead, glue the last thin strip to the previous board where you removed the lip - this is much better and keeps the floor floating - as for ripping the last row, use a cheater board against the baseboard and mark on the board (So That’s How You Do It) has a good series on cheater boards for that - overall, love your work and the video is helpful and of great quality - thanks
Looks beautiful! Great tips!
Wait, wait, wait. How did the baseboard have the perfect gap height to fit a plank in the first place?
Amazing, Joel. How does someone who is not a builder or contractor learn to do all this? You have to have more patience than anyone I know. Is this all self-taught? I want to live in that house and I still think you and Bonnie should move there. It is going to be beautiful. I would love to see it when it is all finished, but with furniture and I know that is not going to happen if your selling or renting it.
Just the type of video I been looking for
What color is the wall paint? The house turned out beautiful!
6:33 You didn't seem to allow a gap when you slid this piece in. How do you leave the required 1/4" gap there?
Thank you so much for this video!
I’m really curious about that flooring. Can you post a link to it? We need to redo our entire main floor with hardwood, but need something more affordable. And living in Seattle, we need something that’s more water resilient.
Absolutely, Here is a link to the flooring: bit.ly/3a2bjTW
What about the lack of the expansion gap at the glued board ?
Hey Joel, thanks for the video. This is my third time laying LVP and I always try to learn something new each time to make the job easier. This is the first time I've had to lay the flooring with the baseboards already installed which is why I found this video. However, on my first attempt at the weave method I encountered an issue you didn't address in the video. The first piece for the weave slides in great. However, when you slide in the second piece, how do you connect the beginning of the second piece with the end of the first? If you try to slide it straight in, the locking mechanisms aren't able to connect. The locking lip end of the second piece needs to go over the locking lip end of the first piece. I can't see any way to achieve the weave method without breaking the end of each piece. Your flooring appears to have the same locking mechanism as mine. What's the secret?
This is amazing super talented #HGTV give him a job💙😊
Well i would say as long as your floor is level all the way around the 1/4 round isn't Necessary however if it isnt then you will have uneven gap between the baseboard and floor which is what the 1/4 round takes care of and hides the gap from edge of floor to wall which you need for expansion so that your floor doen't buckle later
what flooring did you choose for this? Looks amazing!
I like this color! What brand is it?
Do you not need an expansion gap? Curious since I’ll be doing this soon
Do you have a link for this floor?
The house is looking great!
here it is: bit.ly/3a2bjTW
@@TodaysTask Thank you!
Quick question for you Joel. We have vinyl plank at our current house and we love it. We are currently building and plan on putting it in that house as well. We have two mini dachshunds that have hip issues and the house we are currently in doesn’t have any texture to it. They slide way too much. We want to have some with texture in the new house. What are your thoughts on the vinyl plank with texture? Is just preference for people? And is it even that noticeable of a difference (visually speaking)?
Either are great.
Is there not an issue with leaving no gaps? My LVPF says to leave 1/4 gap all around to let it float. I like your method, just wondering.
The gap is between the wall and LVP.
Best video I seen
If I can buy a house like that in Utah. I would rather just to refinished my hardwood floors to stain then polish them and put carpet in the basement.
Hey Joel! This looks fabulous! I have actually been searching for the perfect flooring for our house that we're remodeling, and I feel like this is exactly what I was looking for style wise. I do have a concern/question about it that I'd love to chat with you about, if you have a chance. Thank you!
what color did you guys paint the walls and trim, it looks so nice.
I'm debating whether to glue down the vinyl flooring in my bath or not. My contractor wants to. What's your opinion?
I floated this one, but glueing it is a great idea.
My door casings are curved. The previous owner just 90* the quarter round at each doorway. It’s hideous. What can I do to fix it ? Tk
LOVE THIS SO MUCH. thank you!!!!!!
What size trim did you use for the baseboard and door casings? Looks like 5 1/4 x 1/2 for the baseboard and 3 1/2 x 1/2 for the door legs. Looks good i want to copy it lol
Awesome tips brother!
It's so easy to take off the base and put I back on after the install. That last plank with the liquid nails will end up gapping over time. You could've used clear gorilla glue 2 hr cure time in the joint. Floor looks good though brotha. I've been installing for 21 yrs. My family 46 yrs
So useful!! Thanks a million. And what brand is your vest? Looks super durable!
Thanks, it is a Carhartt I have had it for 10 years now.
@@TodaysTask seems that Carhartt items last for years. Do you happen to know the certain item name? I literally want the same one as you lol
What about expansion
This brand of vinyl flooring has a micro amount of expansion.
Did you run the oscillating saw along the baseboard?
No I installed the boards with the correct height.
Ok I was wondering the same I had to rewind lol
How are you controlling the length of the boards as you are tapping them under the baseboards. You should be leaving room for expansion especially from the way you are dressed it is cooler outside. Come summer you will have issues with expansion.
So helpful!!! Thank you!!
Good morning this is a early video it’s 07:38am uk time.
I always read that with that type of flooring you shouldn’t put it right up to the base boards. As the flooring swells and moves and will bow (lift up in areas) if it doesn’t have room to move. Which is why usually they will say to use the cord around it as there should be a gap between the flooring and the skirting board.
I don’t think that would be a problem cause if you remember he cut the baseboards so they can slide under. And you can see they don’t sit on the flooring. There is a gap.
You are correct there has to be room to float the floor. One quality about vinyl that is overlooked is that of all the flooring surfaces out there, it expands the least.
We sprayed ours with silicone and the pieces slid in easily.
Does garbage end up under the baseboards?
Not to much.
“Damn, where’s my measuring tape” is also my first step 😂
This may be a silly question but don’t you normally need to leave a gap around walls, doors, etc to accommodate swelling/expansion of the flooring or does vinyl not do that?
Perfect Question. Yes you need a gap. I only put the vinyl under the flooring about .25 inch, which will leave another .5 inch gap between the wall and floor. Cool fact about vinyl, it has the least amount of expansion of any plank style flooring.
@@TodaysTask good to know. Thank you. House looks great by the way!
Aren't you afraid of dirt or sand getting in the gap between the floor and floorboards?
So nice!
Thanks for the tips. from what I can tell in your vid, you're forgetting to leave a 1/4" gap for expansion...
Just watching now...so polishing up the already wooden floors wasn't an option?? You may just answer it shortly.
No it wasn't, the old floors didn't continue throughout the entire house and it would have made the flip's budget go through the roof trying to match.
Why not use the tape and block method to move rather than hampering delicate seams
WoW👏👏👏❤️
amazing! can you do my floors? lol
If you are in northern Utah, my neighbor is the best.
I agree with you, Joel. Quarter round just isn't very nice looking.
Within 30 sec i see a stair case in the cuts .. next video
Came looking for vinyl flooring but it’s not vinyl flooring it’s bloody strip flooring… FFS
I believe you were looking for linoleum vinyl flooring.
I’ve been doing this type of floor since it’s come out and glue down plank before this came out. I beg all of you that are watching this video. Do not do anything this guy is doing except undercut the door jambs. These floors need expansion. The way he is sliding them in is not the way to do it. That’s why he can’t find it anywhere where it says this is the way to do it
Excellent video. Thanks
You fought it cause that’s the wrong way. It’s impossible to install it the right way with baseboards on and getting the floor under the base
And now his floor will fail because no expansion
Don’t glue vinyl flooring! it will expand and contract and if you don’t allow it to move it can warp, create gaps, or buckle. That’s why it’s called a floating floor
So spend unnecessary money to buy more flooring for his screw ups
Now gluing it stops it from contracting and expanding so now if it ever buckles and they inspect it. They will say installer error have a nice day. Then try and track down this 🤡
It’s called the locking sytem and now he’s compromised the locking system by cutting it off. This guy has no clue. Please do not use any methods he is showing you.
Hi Joel how are u OK mate u do a relly good job on here mate Hove a good day mate form Greg bouchard u do a relly good picture on job on here mate Hove a good day mate form Greg bouchard bey forn now mate u do a relly good job on here on here mate hove a good day mate form. Greg bouchard u do A relly good job on here mate Hove a good day mate
So this guy makes a how to video when he has no idea about the product itself and the locking system. There is no difference installing this floor with or without baseboard
bruh you need a proper mic. Audio isnt the best. Quite echoey
Instead of tapping the piece that you want to install with the rubber mallet why don't you get a scrap piece and lock it into the end you're tapping and tap the scrap piece which will push the good piece in place without damaging the lip.
