Here’s our reiview Lost /Words: Beyond the Page on Nintendo Switch. Any other Pratchett fans among you? Mark
Pratchett is wonderful! Good to see the family legacy is being passed down. I'm interested in this game but I know I will cry like a little baby because of the subject matter. That particular topic is always tough for me.
I dunno if you know but PRhianna has worked on a lot of games from Mirrors Edge, Tomb Raider, Heavenly Sword and Bioshock Infinite among others.
This game looks pretty decent and I'll likely pick it up at some point but I've just added Lonely Mountains: Downhill to my collection and that has drawn me in.
I love books about Discworld! They are just brilliant. Nothing more to say
Terry Pratchett, yes. Honestly, I have no info about his daughter. Just putting 'Pratchett' on the thumbnail feels a bit off, but that's just my opinion.
“Izzy” here; not actually a Voiceover artist - was originally an animator from way back when on the early game, 6 years ago. So have exactly zero professional voice acting experience or formal acting training. Got zero time to learn the script - everything you hear was improv done on the day of recording. Also - got almost no context given to me prior to recording - I never got to see a visual of the game, never read through the script in order (hell, didn’t even know the whole story!) and never played the game through until after we’d recorded the majority of scenes. As you’ve rightly noted, there is occasionally a little mismatch between visuals and what the player hears in Izzy’s narration, and given the chance to record again, there are a few things I’d do differently - starting with making sure I have all the context I need to sound believable. Also, on the day we recorded a very sad chapter (if you played through the story then you know the one I mean) and the snowy/depression chapters, I was going hard on the Lemsip for a pretty bad cold at the time. Thankfully, it was barely noticeable when recording (or we’d have stopped), but it did definitely change the acoustics of my voice a tiny bit. Good to know my acting is “decent,” at least. I’ll take that as an underhanded compliment in the right direction.
Wow you nailed it for the most part and so cool that you came to watch! I wouldn't have had a chance under those conditions - if you're not a professional voice actor you might want to consider it. You carry the game. Mark
You were absolutely delightful to listen to throughout the entire game.
I was captivated by the voice acting. It was so natural, sweet and innocent. Beautiful voice over and beautiful visuals to go with this creative story telling experience.
Oh how I miss all those wonderful books by Terry Pratchett coming every year! He has singlehandedly made me a book collector 😄
Oh my god, I love Terry Pratchett so much, I've missed his books and the community they created, I feel like it's been gone since he died.
I'm absolutely getting this. I had no idea this was written by his daughter so I'm so glad you said this.
This seems therapeutic and emotional. Might put it on my wishlist then
Sounds like this studio is one to watch out for in the future. They can definitely make something super special once they get gameplay stuff down.
I started reading Pratchett when I was about 10, started with Johnny and the bomb, strata and the dark side of the sun. As I got older I started on the disc world novels, with men at arms being the first I read. I loved anything with the guards in, soul music, anything with the witches in. I just loved the way that the settings and situations were so imaginative, yet the people, and the politics, were so very human (whatever their species).
Thanks for making me think of them.
I love this kind of indie games.
I'll put it on my wishlist so I can play it when I'll eventually need a break from Monster Hunter.
I’m in love with the woman who’s doing the narration.
Such a stellar voice!
She's 14 you freak
@@peacefrog929 how could I’ve known? I don’t even know who the narrator is.
And it’s still a stellar voice.
@@Markde9876 being in love with a 14 year old's voice is sick you freak. I hope the FBI are keeping tabs on you
Actually she's about 25 😄 The character is young but the actress is Sidonie Maria
@@markbackler shut up man I want this guy to sweat a bit more
This is one of the more unique games I’ve played. It’s immersive. Looks beautiful on the OLED! I’m enjoying it so much. I highly recommend. It really is one you won’t regret playing!
I love visual novels, growing up books were my getaway and the library was my sanctuary. I just finished playing this game and my goodness how I loved it so much, it pulls on the heartstrings and you choose the character's personality and help make the story with decisions which were great. I do not regret buying this game on impulse, one of the best indie switch games I have played, you do a lot of back-to-back interactions, it's cute and lots of cutscenes to see the interactions between the main character and those she meets. If you enjoy visual novels and want a heartwrenching and cute interactive game where interaction is key and the illustrations are so adorable and beautiful then I would highly recommend this game. It's 15 dollars purchase and well worth the money in my personal opinion. If you don't like the idea of using words to progress through the story then you don't have to get it, I personally enjoyed it.
Oh wow... huge (Terry) Pratchett fan here. Fabulous man. Gifted writer, of course, but also just a great man. Watched his documentary made at the end of his life made while he was looking into "death with dignity" options... powerful stuff, esp as someone living with terminal illness. Definitely grabbing this game. Looks right up my alley as a former writer, always language lover, long time Pratchett fan. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
Ah mate I guarantee you’ll be in tears haha - this one is about her Gran but you know much of the feelings etc are from experience with all loss. Mark
Thanks so much for bringing this one to my attention. I’ll definitely grab this one when drops to $10.
Terry Pratchett came to my school in the 90's and spoke at assembly. Never got into his stuff personally.
I just finished the game and I agree with everything you say here. I'm 60 and I think that it touches a subject we don'y usually see in videogames, and it does it with extremely good taste and understanding. As a game is quite easy but I can picture myself recomending it to non-hardcore playesrs as a journey they will take someday.
The voice acting is soooooooo sweet!
Greetings from Barcelona
Funny that Ive been reading books again and they make a Switch game about reading.
Hehe yeah they’re trying to draw you back lol! Mark
@@SwitchUpYt oh the temptation!
I named her Robyn too 💖 I played this game to get a relaxing break after being stressed out af with RE8 Mercenaries Mode lol, but Lost Words ended up making me cry so much, such a beautiful and emotional game. I played it on Steam and was using a controller at first, but then I got rid of it and just use the mouse and keyboard lol
Bought this in a panic as the sale was about to end, paid about 3 euro/dollars for it. Looked nice and I had time to see that the grades were at least decent. Good to hear it's a nice game, I will probably enjoy it, even if it's more like an interactive novel.
Skipped this then I realised it was Rhianna Pratchett (Heavenly Sword, Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider co-writer on Bioshock) as I never got along with Terry's stuff, Something to fit in between all the 100 hour plus games that are sat in my back log.
This seems very decent, especially for a debut game. It looks and sounds beautiful too. But given the current issues it has, I might wait to see if it gets any patches or a small discount before picking it up. Thanks for the review.
Oh man I loved the Rincewind stories! Pratchett is definitely my favorite author. I will have to support this game and the family with a purchase of this one! Looks pretty good tbh.
Thank you for the review - I was not aware of this, but it looks like a good game. Think I’ll have to snag it.
This games looks great and I will def pick it up . I never knew it was even coming out. Without your channel I would of missed out on a few gems out there. Thanks for this Mark
Cheers mate! Mark
£1.19 on eshop seems a good price
Great review, Mark! Wow this game oozes charm... I got goosebumps just out of some of the quick cutscenes you showed here. Seems like a unique/easy-ish experience
even though I don't have the Switch version, I recently just found out about this game on xbox, and I gotta say I'm digging it so far. I like how you can choose how she'll look in the game, and for a platform game it's not hard at all. you might make a few mistakes in the beginning like I did, but eventually you'll get the hang out of it. it's not a very long game or anything, but not too short either. the best way I can sum this game up is, it's an adventure platform kind of game. so there's very little encounters with monsters and things like that, it's mostly about living out this girls adventure.
As a Terry Pratchett fan and a fan of games like these I will definitely pick this up at some stage!
Narrative-generated levels? Nice. Pretty neat concept really. Would love to see a fully fledged out platformer world, more challenging & less floaty, with this mechanic. Still, hats off to the developer for the idea.
Great review guys.
I’m lost for words at this game
Thank you for a wonderfully well rounded review
Thanks for watching! Mark
Played this one and finished it today. It was a good game overall and pretty enjoyable, if not a bit sad in places.
I'm going to add it to my list despite the negative aspects it looks interesting and thought provoking with some beautiful artwork.
Your puns never get old. :) The games looks beautiful.
I am currently playing this game and loving it. I wasn't aware that rhianna pratchett had written it though, thanks for that! The game came out at a poignant time for me as I am currently undergoing some health-issues and it serves as a bit of a catharsis when projecting my feelings about that to my daughters. I reckon all parents should play this, even though it is not without it's flaws.
Glad I watched this review I’ll definitely be picking this up, Rihanna Pratchett worked on Tomb Raider and I found that was really well written so I’m hoping this is just as good story wise
Nice, I’ve been looking forward to this one.
Definitely gonna check it out. :D
Found your channel last week about the same time as I got my switch.
Your recommendations have caused my arse to be fused to the sofa.😅
Hahaha in a good way I hope! Mark
This game seems so lovely!! I'm still depating wether to get it on pc or switch tho, seems good to play on either one
Honestly the story is the biggest highlight of the games i cried during some part mostly due to the voice acting of the main character
I really hope someone does a review for a long way down
Was looking at the prices for thomas was alone when i saw this. I liked the front cover of the box so i searched it up and now im wondering weather i should get it for christmas or not?
Not my cup of tea but I'm sure this will land with the right crowd
There seem to be so many games that need a mouse, that opt for clunky joy con controls instead of using touch screen or motion controls. There's a reason we use gyro aiming.
Couldn’t agree more
This is one of those games that I wish had a little more replay value. I would be more interested in this one if there were multiple endings to discover based on how you chose to create your story. Overall, it looks good but I will probably pass unless they release a DLC that expands the core game.
It looks very nice, but I'm an average player and I'll wait for a sale. All jokes aside, how I miss the old pratchett!
"The Computer Game Version"?? You mean the PS1 game (& maybe PC?) DISCWORLD!! It was AWESOME!
I dont need to finish watching this video.
Im sold within 3 mins of the review.
Pratchett was a Legend
How do i set the voice narration
Such an interesting game mechanic. I am sorry but I have never heard of the author as I only learned the joys of reading books in my later years.
The narrative has so much soul in it, I am drawn to the story. Hope that the nicks would be polished. This has definitely reached my top-to-buy list.
Mark how do you pull yourself away from Monster Hunter Rise and play and review games. You are a better man than me!
With GREAT difficulty hahaha! Mark
Hello Journal- I mean Mark.
Hello my friend :D
A Scribblenauts cousin?
As a collector, I find it pretty disappointing that the physical version is just a code in a box :/
This is rated M? Am I missing something?
The storyline it pretty heavy - I can’t go in to that though. Mark
For me it shows an E rating
I know when I play a really good game when I beat it and I feel so empty inside
Really cute game i,m loving it at the moment
It looks interesting, but the flaws you mentioned put me off.
To be honest I just played this game and I'm probably 90% of the way through but my ranking, at the moment would be higher by far
Perhaps that's due to my own issues, perhaps it';s due to what I've been through, blah blah blah. I found the music, voice acting, etc. Perfect for what they were going for. A game of all ages and if I had a child (I'm a married 37yo) I'd love for them to play this.
Just what the Switch needs, yet another side scroller.
Annnnd, a big fat no. But you get a thumbs up because you're working so hard.
A great game.
Finally a game I don't want 😃
🧙♂️
I'll pass. Thanks
THIRD COMMENT BABY LET'S GOOOOO
Typoman plays better
Lol
Can you PLEASE stop starting the reviews with the story??? I want to know what genre of game it is.
Ughhhh it's the premise of the game. Simply skip past story. Mark
Either it’s a discworld point and Click Game or it’s not a pratchett game at all. F this
Out of 20? WTF? Some people just have to be different. So 75 out of 100. Stop being different for the sake of different. It’s pretentious.
