Using your advice I had started to do it very similarly, but still picked up a lot of useful tricks to preserve and change the weight paints. Also helped me understand where sometimes design choices need to be made, like with the boots/thick pants. Should help me clean up what I've done and do better going forward. Will be looking forward to the tutorial!
I've got a question about the workflow you start at around 35:00 Couldn't you just use the knife tool to get these diagonal edges or would that create issues with the weight paint? Nevertheless the video helped me a lot, thanks 👍

it would be really cool to see you low poly model a mystical swamp/pond on a terrain cube slice. and have the pond glowing emission to give it a mystical effect and add like lilly pads in the watter and stuff with some rocks and bushes and trees around it. then render it :) would look really cool in your style. and if you don't want to do that, try making master chief from Halo. since he is already lowpoly. and even greater reason is the new halo infinite is coming out later this year and you'd get massive views trying to lowpoly the halo infinite master chief :) looking forward to your next video!! love the content

Isn't there some way to "project" the weight map of the character model on attached clothes? I get the elegance of this approach, if the clothing remains pretty simple, but if you need to do some more modelling, like making a uniform jacket or something, this could come to its limits. As weights are only an attribute of the vertices, I could think of a function or plugin, which maps and lerps them to associated ones in the clothings? Anyone any recommendations for that or am I thinking too simple here?
God, I wish blender automatically weight painted as well for me as it does for you, every time I do it there's an attached five hours of clicking on the same vertex until it finally sets the weight to 0.

@@deimosoverkill When we had separate hat/backpack, we set them as a child of armature (head, spine2) in the Blender and then in the Unity we made those GameObjects again child of armature’s related GameObjects. However, I am not sure what to do with these weight painted clothes. I didn’t try it yet though :) Are those clothes just going animate with the character directly? Edit: I tried it and it works without any change since clothes come with Skinned Mesh Renderer unlike backpack or hat from this example: ruclips.net/video/67vVPd0OdXQ/видео.html So, all good! :)
@@serefbulbull Its really that easy; One trick i developed from doing this over and over; is making a "Blank" version of your character just for rigging, and then you copy all the weights from this "blank" mesh into the unclothed character, and the overlaying clothes/equipment meshes (in weight paint mode). a quick and precise way of rigging complex models to use ingame (like tactical vests with a bunch of pouches and pockets, or pants that snap seamlessly into a shirt mesh).
nice one :) btw. have you done a clothes randomizer code in unity? i was thinking bc doing something like that in near future., low poly stuff :) idk if it would be reasonable just to hide all the clothes that are not picked by code (..used for like random ppl on street, or enemies with variations of clothes and hair/hats)

How can we save user's preference in unity so everytime he loads the game, the custom choice of clothes is loaded by default. Possibly another "coin", for when he'll catch a superpower item then the coin changes to red instead of yellow... That kind of stuff. I know we're on a 3D channel not a gaming creator channel, but i prefer your way of explaining and showing, you're that good

For the belt thing, wouldn't the knife preserve the weight paint and save some time instead of cleaning the circle select?

On the bandolier/strap thing, could you use the knife tool and draw it on that way?
I suggest that you make a floating island with a castle in the middle ripping out of the ground with chains attached to it
After I've rigged everything and applied the weight paint, when I move the root, the legs keep moving weirdly and spazzing out..

It would be awesome if you show how we can integrate all those clothes in to Unity and still have the animations.
You just export an FBX with all the meshes (clothes) + armature with actions. Try it its not hard. =)

Would it be better to separate the base model into sections and hide the sections that are occuluded to prevent them clipping through?
