i just recently got a 1941 john deer A and it has ben sitting for about 25-30 years and it was sealed up when it was parked and it still turns over whis is a great thing
That A is cool we had two of them when I was young. One you had to start by turning the flywheel . I can remember starting it when I could just reach the top of the fly wheel. That was the tracter I learned todrive on.
mr farmer man, my model B ran away like that too and I still cannot find out why. did you resolve the problem? I had to choke mine to bring engine RPM to a safe level
I noticed you call them poppin Johnys, where I'm from in idaho we call them johny poppers, nothing like the sound of one it's music to a country boys ears.
Have you done anything with the Model A. I am looking at one now that is probably set up from just sitting for 4 years. I want to fix it up nice to have as a fun tractor. I have a JD 6410 that is my workhorse but i want a Johnny popper!
my grand dad had an old unstyled A and most of the time we had to hook a chain to it and pull it with the car to get it to start ran great had lots of power pain to get to start
....I could almost swear I heard Teresa there.... Was she there already? (some voice tones tells me this is not Teresa though) I was searching for one of your clip about old JD cold-start as a response for a farming/machinery group ---facebook though :-( --- (and/but hoping they sub to your channel etc) ;) (my only hope though is that they are smart/clever enough to already know what farming is about.... no matter the end-products or business involved.... and humble enough to know what it takes to put food on the table, and trying to have fun doing it just as what's life is supposed to be)
Farmall Fanatic not true opening the petcock does not realease all of the compression that is the way you start them old two cylinders by hand. Look it up.
Used to rebuild these in High School. Farm Power Mechanics class. The first start was always brutal, but once it was tuned in, it was easy.
hell I worked up a sweat just watching you!!! Goog work man!
Congratulations on your Slant Dash A prize. I, too, have a slant dash ('44 model) that hopefully I'll get started on restoring this winter.
Wow my arms got sore just watching you. After about the second try I would have said screw this and pull started it LOL.
Great video as always.

Thanx from the left coast near the Crapitol of California
Gene
I believe the starter motor was getting weak towards the end. Don't think it has a warranty
i think by the way its runnning, the timing might be off on the moter.
great work out
Now maybe you can understand the true value of a "bank barn"..... Always park on top of the "bank" so you can do a roll start.......
mr farmer man, my model B ran away like that too and I still cannot find out why. did you resolve the problem? I had to choke mine to bring engine RPM to a safe level
how long did it actually take u to get it running?
you had a lot of patience there,i would of given up long before that
Isn't that rated at about 1000 rpm MAX........parts will fly......cool vid Wes
i Bet it's Fun starting these in the winter time.
Just wondering do you know if JD made other tractors in the engine style of the 60?
PERSISTENCE AND PRESSURE ALWAYS WORKS...
Cool. I live about 50 miles SW of Sabina.
gotta love john deers
I noticed you call them poppin Johnys, where I'm from in idaho we call them johny poppers, nothing like the sound of one it's music to a country boys ears.

I bet Wes can't wait until he gets the starter fixed
I HAVE A GP AND IT HAVE A MIND OF ITS OWN WHEN IT CO
My dad tells me about how his grandfather always parked his John Deere Bs on top of a hill to start
can you pull out all of the old popping Johny tractors together and make a vid of them?

Just FYI the B is smaller then the A.
@travis ebie No he's good he's funny when he swears

Need just a little work.... and some paint.. and some... and some..
As I can see Wesley, you can be very well determined when we talk about making a tractor work!!!
my buddy got burned up bad from gas spraying out of petcocks.
IS THAT ORIGINAL PAINT?!! (:
1947
my grand dad had an old unstyled A and most of the time we had to hook a chain to it and pull it with the car to get it to start ran great had lots of power pain to get to start

very difficult to start
stuck governer,
You sure that’s an A? Looks small for a full size A. Looks more like a M model.
Flyerbob 1 a m has an other motortype
If your going to do fast forward cut the sound out is my opinion
turn off the petcocks
Richard Anderson why
Farmall Fanatic it relieves the compresion slightly allowing the engine to be rolled over quicker and easier. Thus forth easier starting.
john deere 4840 With the petcock shut off you aint startin it
Farmall Fanatic not true opening the petcock does not realease all of the compression that is the way you start them old two cylinders by hand. Look it up.
john deere 4840 With no gas flow how do you keep them running
You drove that far for that big piece of junk you must not have a lot to do.
