A proper company that looks after the people who work for them .plus the wider public .Well done to you all at jcb for the last 80 years and the future to come
Bamford founded JCB in Rocester but today the company is the main reason why the local town, Uttoxeter, fairs better than many other rural towns in the UK. The company employs most of the town, I know this because I've lived there for 26 years. JCB looks after their employees as well; getting a job there guarantees a stable income for the rest of your life, the company is unionised and employees get generous benefits.
My two grandsons were educated at the JCB academy, they received a first class engineering education and both were instantly employed in engineering companies, They have never looked back since learning the academy. WELL DONE JCB.
As a young teen I still remember my first time in a loadall it was on loan from jcb as it was at the time unavailable and not even for sale, and my stepdad used it with a spike to move hay bales and straw around the farm with us in the cab. He loved it, they pre ordered one . He also had one of the first fastracs on the farm. Nice to see a British brand excel and innovate. It's what made this country great after all. 👍🏻❤️
I can tell you the main reason why JCB has proved so successful in the long term - and I'm astonished this commentary failed to mention it. *EVERY share in JCB is owned by a member of the Bamford family.* If, therefore, they decide to invest a massive proportion of their net income in R & D, there are no external shareholders to demand that they use that money to pay out higher dividends on shares. This policy, which Joe Bamford adopted from the start, also makes them fireproof against the sort of hostile take-over suffered by Ferguson's, when other directors virtually sold the company out to the American company Massey behind Harry Ferguson's back. Inevitable result? A few years later, Massey closed the English side down and fired all the staff. A couple of other points which should ALSO have been made clear; JCB is now the second biggest company in the world for plant and machinery for agriculture, construction and materials handling - and the *BIGGEST in the world for back-hoe loaders!*
A very proud Savannah native, & we are very proud of our JCB plant here. It's actually in a municipality called Pooler. The tractor displays they always set up on the islands in the lagoons facing I-95 are always a site to see.
I was working at a cancer charity linked to one of the top hospitals in the UK years ago. We got a random cheque for 6 figures from a Mr Anthony Bamford. Turns out we treated a Mr Joseph Cyril Bamford years ago!
It’s simply a JCB, just like a Hoover or Dyson, Quality not profit no external investors, it must be doing something right to keep growing, may it continue
NOT GREAT AND YOUR LITTLE ISLANDS ARE GOING DOWN TH ETUBE, NO PUN INTENDED. Commander of the britarded empire which thankfully was no more long before Bamfords time. The britarded empire killed more people over its 300 years OF ITS GREEDY INVASION OF MANY COUNTRIES, TERROR AND DEATH than the total number of victims killed in WWii
JCB, I remember posing sat in a 3CX while I was at primary school for pictures with a crew and mechanic who was there, along with the rest of my class, teacher and headmaster who were lined up beside it. One reason was because they were impressed with how much I knew about them for a 7 year old which included enough to do the checks and operate it, but also because that particular machine was exactly my age at the time, one of the first off the line in 1985.
JCB first made a single arm front loader in 1952, the backhoe followed soon after, there were competers including Whitlock Dinkcom (now Volvo) and Shawny Warrior, all three machines where attached to a standard farm tractor, JCB soon made a fully dedicated purpose chassis fully integrated assembly machine, the JCB 4.
Thank you for the video, I can remember the factory at Rocester in Staffordshire, as a driver for British Road Services I delivered goods there every day from suppliers all over the country. May the factory continuer for a good number of years.

I bet you wished you stayed . My dad and bro turned £200 into 16k. Most succesful privatisation ever. Me being the idiot bought my first motorbike for £545 . Big mistake. I'd have been set for life if i bought shares with that. But hey.
I had come here to say the same thing, the amount of post we used to get for Rochester was astounding. But it needs over dubbing with the right name, sounds awful as it is. Pronounced “Ro-ster” (as in Row-stir) some say it like Ro-ses-ter which is technically right but locally wrong.
It was the Nuffield / BMC / Leyland skid unit that made the difference. Simple straightforward indestructible gearbox and backend. Simms in line injection pump. Excess fuel button. Simple machine. Easier than a shovel. NO BRAKES!!!🙏
JCB are bringing a four-wheel-drive back to Australia. I’m going to have a good look at them if they are as good as their machinery should be fantastic. Only thing I don’t like about it it’s only got a 2 L motor but It won’t stop me from having a good look
JCB stands for Quality has I see it. I loved driving the JCB. And it's ability in what I could do with it.😂❤😅😢😂❤ I should also add that has a school boy I did a project on farm equipment and I received more pencils, rubbers, & so much more information from JCB than from any other company. And I remember to this day some 60 years later. Thank you JCB.
Had JCB only started today under kiers reign would it have been such a success ? Indeed would he have even been able to grow a business after the budget yesterday ? 🤷🏻♂️
What you missed was Joseph (always known as Joe) who had been in the family business Bamfords Ltd (which made agricultural equipment) since 1935 in Uttoxeter, left the firm (1948) to start his own very successful excavator manufacturing company J.C. Bamford (Excavators) Ltd. The original Bamford Ltd continued until 1978. In November 1967, J.C. Bamford (Excavators) Ltd. made an offer for the company's whole share capital. The Board of Bamfords Ltd. reacted unfavourably to this bid, as J.C. Bamford (Excavators) Ltd. had failed to obtain sufficient acceptance from their shareholders which resulted in the bid being finally withdrawn.

This proves that Britain as a Manufacuring country could have been as successful as modern Germany with good management and investment in product, how he succeeded despite the British Unions is beyond comprehension.
they dont need unions because they pay well and the staff share in the profits. But it is a family owned company so they dont need to 'maximise shareholder value' like the other companies and extract profit just for shareholders
Fabulous success story, thank you so much for this, just make sure it stays British and not sold off to some other country that will probably destroy it!
