I graduated from HS in 72. It was a great year for tractors. Farmers could still afford to actually own one. No computers or crazy electronics. My favorite was the 6030 Deere. Second place would be the Allis 200. Both were great. Low cost horsepower. Farmer friendly.
Wow, just amazing that there was such an amazing diversity of tractor brands back then! I think that competitiveness helped improve product and keep prices lower!
For me, hands down #1 is the Ford 9600. Dad bought one in '74 or '75. Pulled a Ford (Pittsburgh) 5-16 model 142 plow & 20' model 230 disc. Grew up running that beast for more hours than I count. Loved that machine despite that the AC never worked for more than a month after the first year. Dad had it repaired at least 2 times; never lasted. My #2 would be a tie between Case 2470 (area farmer had 1; I always thought it was cool) and similar design IH 4166. Thanks for the memories, Jason. Keep 'em coming.
Boy that big IH 4WD looked like a beast. Sure miss the days of sitting up in the cab of our Turbo IH 1206, disking all day long, listening to college football on Saturday AM radio. Turning that soil over, watching the smoke roll out of the stack, those were the days!
I'm really enjoying all of these older equipment videos. I remember when I was a boy a farm near us had a Ford 8000. It had no cab but I thought it was the be all end all of tractors. To me it looked huge!! Cool memories. Thanks Jason.
My uncle had 2 Ford 9600s (among other Fords) in his large produce operation. He bought them new and ran them well into the 1990s until he retired. I spent many hours running them, as well as our own A-C equipment when I was coming up.
Glad to see the IH 4166 on here, I put a lot of hours on one of those, started running it when I was 11, I couldn't push the clutch in on it, so dad would get me moving and jump off. That tractor was workhorse. Those were the days, lots of memories.
What a treat! It’s good to see old iron still running. I love the old tractors!
Man I'll tell ya what I really enjoy watching these videos of all these older tractors. And it's kind of hard for me to have a most favorite out of this one cuz I like them all. Keep them coming
We had a John Deere 4320. If I remember right the old man had it turned up to about 150 hp. Man that thing would pull down the house. Loved that tractor.
50 years of Awesome! Spent some time riding XTs at cousins haying. Long nose nice ride, good ol days. Our shorter 856s were bouncy but the soft dirt dampened it. Great vid! Still gotta drive one of the 4x4 crab walkers one day
Loved the Oliver, but loved seeing them all. Thanks
This video is one example of what makes BigTractorPower so great! Thankx Jason!!!!!
Like the Ford tractors. In 1976 my father in law bought a 9600 just like the one in the video. I bought his used 8000 and started my own farming operation. Quit farming in 83 and sold 8000 in 84. Wish I still had the tractor.
That agri king 1270 looked real nice and clean. Great sound to her too
Thank you Jason, for the compilations of big tractor power from 1972. I look forward to seeing more videos such as this one in the near future. A video with 1972 harvesters, would be complimentary to this video.
I enjoyed all the tractors from the past Thank You the information is great.
That growl from the Veristile is pure bliss...
The AC 200 was a great tractor and pretty quiet for it's time. I loved the Case and Oliver tractors too.
Absolutely love the big old tractors Jason... Thx
