      Not to mention actual branding. Guitars, speakers, drums, they were all correctly branded. And they even correctly branded guitar strings! I believe that was in the last episode, when they entered the music shop. I immediately recognised Ernie Ball, D'Addario and Elixir (my favourite of the 3).

    To add on with the Onikoroshi at 8:36, all of the equipment used by the characters, (like guitars, amps, etc.) have in real life versions. Another fun fact, Kana-Boon's vocalist, Maguro Taniguchi, wrote and composed the first ending: "Distortion!!" The poster of Kana-Boon in Bocchi's closet could be a reference to that fun fact?

      Also, when they enter the music store in the same episode, the backgrounds were real images with real products. The ones I noticed most were D'Addario, Ernie Ball, and Elixir Strings.
      It's awesome how they don't hold themselves back.

    The scene where Ryō Yamada was serving water to the two old punks in the maid café at the school festival was a referance to the Monogatari scene where Hitagi Senjogahara was teasing Koyomi who was chained to a chair. Probably it's not really a reference but maybe an inspiration.

  • @ChillyCheeseFryz
    @ChillyCheeseFryz Год назад +91

    As far as I know, regarding the references in the episode titles:
    Episode 1 - 転がるぼっち - Korogaru Bocchi - Which, as said in the video, is a reference to the Asian Kung-Fu Generation (henceforth referred to as AjiKan) song 「転がる岩、君に朝が降る」(Korogaru Iwa, Kimi ni Asa ga Furu). Iwa meaning rock or stone, and likely referring to Bocchi the "Rock."
    Episode 2 - また明日 - Mata Ashita - is a reference to the AjiKan song 「それでは、また明日」(Sore de wa, Mata Ashita)
    Episode 3 - 馳せサンズ - Hase Sanzu - is a reference to the AjiKan song 「馳せサンズ」(Hase Sanzu). However, this reference has a little bit more going on. It's a pun. The word "Hase" in the song title is written as "長谷" which is a real place in Japan. However, in the episode title, "Hase" is written as "馳せ" as in "to hurry."
    Side Note: In Episode 3, there's a moment (about a minute into the episode) with 2 swimmers, 2 lobsters, and a man. This is a reference to the music video for the AjiKan song 「君の町まで」(Kimi no Machi Made).
    Episode 4 - ジャンピングガール(ズ) - Jumping Girl(s) - is a reference to the AjiKan song 「ダンシングガール」(Dancing Girl).
    Episode 5 - 飛べない魚 - Tobenai Sakana - is a reference to the AjiKan song of the same name.
    Episode 6 - 八景 - Hakke - is a reference to the AjiKan song of the same name.
    Episode 7 - 君の家まで - Kimi no Ie Made - is a reference to the AjiKan song 「君の町まで」(Kimi no Machi Made). The same song referenced in episode 3.
    Episode 8 - ぼっち・ざ・ろっく - Bocchi the Rock - While this episode is a title drop, it's also possible that this title is a reference to the book ゴッチ語録 (GOTCH GO ROCK), which is a book all about Masafumi Gotou and AjiKan.
    SIde Note: It's worth noting that Masafumi Gotou and Hitori Gotou have very similar nicknames.
    Hitori Gotou's nickname is of course, Bocchi - which, in the anime, comes from her name. "Hitori" meaning one person/alone. Combining Hitori with either "Gotou" or "Bocchi" gets us "hitorigotou" which sounds like the word "hitorigoto" (meaning monologue/talking to oneself) and "hitoribocchi" (meaning loner/loneliness) respectively.
    As for her namesake, Masafumi Gotou, he got the nickname ゴッチ - which can be romanized into reading as "Gocchi." In the Episode 8 section, ゴッチ was romanized into GOTCH, but it is the same nickname.
    Episode 9 - 江ノ島エスカー - Enoshima Escar - is a reference to the AjiKan song of the same name.
    Episode 10 - アフターダーク - After Dark - is, as mentioned in the video, a reference to the AjiKan song of the same name.
    Episode 11 - 十二進法の夕景 - Juu Ni Shinhou no Yuukei - is a reference to the AjiKan song of the same name.
    Episode 12 - 君に朝が降る - Kimi ni Asa ga Furu - is, as mentioned in the video, a reference to the AjiKan song 「転がる岩、君に朝が降る」(Korogaru Iwa, Kimi ni Asa ga Furu). Which, is the same song the first episode get's its name from. It all comes full circle.

      BAND-MAID is actually the case where a shy lead guitarist teaches guitar to a sociable side guitarist who can't play guitar at first.
      This is the same as Bocchi The Rock.
      Similarly, the lead guitarist KANAMI is shy, but when she play the guitar, it turns into a monster technique.
      She has also worn a maid outfit at the school festival in the past.

    There's actually a bunch of scenes that are 1:1 recreations of scenes from FLCL, not just the one.
    One of the other ones off the top of my head is a scene in Starry where iirc Bocchi comes out of a garbage or something and walks towards the camera with a style of animation/zombie walk that is directly taken from a scene in FLCL where Haruka walked the same way and with same camera positioning + fish eye lens.
    There's also a scene of Bocchi striking a specific pose with her guitar that was also just another Haruka body swap.
    (For years I've considered FLCL my favorite anime so every time they paid tribute to a scene I noticed it immediately XD)

    Episode titles are actually Ajikan song titles
    Hiroi is actually a person from a band that actually upload sake and alcohol stuffs in twitter
    Canned fish from the opening mv after hiroi showed up is an actual reference of real hiroi song mv that showed similar scene in the mv
    The guitar in the last episode that bocchi picked can't actually bought in real life because it is actually a custom build and yamaha needed to tweet about it since people been asking and then made another collab event with bocchi the rock series
    Some scenes like the wall where they take band pictures actually exist as a 1:1 copy and there seems to be quite a lot of people signed it after bocchi the rock aired
    Talking about the anime airing, the actual STARRY is closing their place during the day with cones and rope since people just keep coming to do their anime pilgrimage to the place
    The 4:3 scene you found in the anime is actually made in hajime no ippo style
    The anime team actually goes on a hike to take a picture of bocchi stuffed doll for the episode where they explained where bocchi might be when she's missing
    Did you know that the sound direction of this anime is actually doing god's work? Every sound is made with care and if you take a better inspection, the audio is actually done to make the viewers get immersed. Use headphones to understand this
    The director is actually a big fan of the manga. He loved it so much that years prior this becomes an anime he goes around to ask every producer he can find and to tell him that if this manga ever become anime, he would like to direct it
    All the staffs in the anime is actually given quite the freedom to make this anime. That's why this anime is actually packed with things that doesn't usually exists in the anime. Heck, even the source manga doesn't have that much of source in the first place to be referred by the anime. There are a lot of scenes that added only in the anime such as godzilla bocchi scene, stop motion bocchi scene, etc
    The VA of bocchi actually had similar life experience and also had not so good life journey. One day when she wants to go to chorus club, she had to write an 800 word essay to explain why she wanted to go to the school club and presented it in front of her parents.

    After watching “Bocchi the Rock” I’m more than 90 % sure that mangaka was inspired by the history of BAND-MAID , one of the greatest J-Rock bands ever . Of course , it was artistically transfigured by the author , but it’s still can be clearly seen . There is even a direct reference in the manga , where “Bocchi the Rock” heroines recreate the scene from “Domination” MV , when Mincho plays solo on the table . But in the anime there are also a lot of hints . For example :
    1 ) “Gorilla” reference in episode 1 (A-chan , the drummer of BAND-MAID , is often called “Gorilla” , because of her powerful playing style and also because she likes bananas) ;
    2 ) One of the band members teacher another how to play . That’s exactly what happened in BAND-MAID . Even if Miku-san was the bands founder , back then she couldn’t play at all and Kanami was her teacher ;
    3 ) One of the band members love another . The same goes for BAND-MAID , where Kanami loves Saiki . But instead of answering to her feelings , Saiki is just tsundering her 🙁;
    4 ) Finally , the drunk bassist Kikuri-chan , who is almost the copy of Misa-san . Though they have different personalities , but their life attitude is almost the same . They both have only two interests in life : to drink and to play bass . And even their appearances are quite similar .

    Another subtl reference is that of Ryo's eyes turned gold coin or 'kozeni' in ep 11 at the omurice scene. That if I am not mistaken is a pretty obvious reference to the character Kirimaru from popular Japanese show Nintama Rantarou. Kirimaru is always obsessed with money makes exact same eye

    Not for nothing but Toriel crashes into the blocks in Undertale's original trailer, too.
    Unrelated but in the switch trailer the scene is replaced with Toriel flying towards Ann anime catgirl firing layers and the dialogue now saying "my child I will break your heart"

    You didn;t mention that the club Starry is a reference to a real club Shelter in a real life Shimokitazawa. Even the sign at the entrance is similar.
    Also a shop to which Bocchi went for a new guitar is a real shop and it's referenced in a video series of Bocchi's voice actress trying to learn how to play guitar (TVアニメ『ぼっち・ざ・ろっく!』連動企画「ギターヒーローへの道」)

    I believe the reference from 1:16 is about when BB King broke a string on Lucille (a Gibson ES-330 with the same colors! Very similar to the LesPaul that Bocchi plays) in Farmaid '85 (crazy video if you search it) , and the bottle I think is a reference from the movie Crossroads or even a homage to Delta Blues players in general, just my two cents 🤘🏼Viva la Bocchi!
