How Bocchi The Rock conquered this season : -> Relatable story -> Cute and relatable characters -> Banger musics -> Band references as much as JoJo -> Creative animations -> *_MEMES_* 😂🤣
In a season with more notable popular titles like Chainsaw Man, Bleach, Mob Psycho, MHA, Spy x Family, and Blue Lock, Bocchi The Rock managed to surpass the odds and become one of the best and memorable shows from this entire year of 2022. And it's all thanks to the creativity and passion of the animation team at CloverWorks. After thinking about it for quite some while, I've decided that putting this series into my Top 10 all time favorites is not that much a case of recency bias after all. The show's production and direction is that amazing, from the creative visuals that managed to surprise and impress me each episode to the fond dynamics and chemistry of the characters to the really nice and engaging introspection into Bocchi's introverted identity. It's honestly a show unlike any other despite what most people claim otherwise, and I've seen and watched countless anime series myself. This was quite a unique and irreplaceable experience, and I honestly wish I can get that sort of feeling again if s2 is possible one day.
I think you might've put it into even better words than I could... Bocchi has been such a breath of fresh air in the anime space and I really do hope its success gets itself a season 2. Definitely a show I won't be forgetting about anytime soon!
honestly amazing how great his show felt to me, I'm also putting it in my top 10 because like this video said, it's small details are so well done it makes the bigger picture feel so much more amazing, I especially love the roles of the 3 band members as support for bocchi and how the 3 help her development, honestly I don't think I've ever loved character development in any other series before as much as I did here.
I was not prepared for Bocchi, but hearing people talk about t every week got me to watch it. I was not prepared to have it reach into my chest and grab a part of my heart. There is something about it that is so real that makes it super relatable and honest. The high action/violence based shows that populate the shonen genre are going to get rated higher on most sites because they appeal to a larger base. As a suggestion of another heavily music influenced anime, Watch Symphogear.
@@pretentiousname01 i was like "oh she looks like the game character that i like" didnt know i found a hidden gem deep inside a cave filled with dirty water
So proud to say I've been watching since ep1 was released, and till now I've made five friends watching this anime. And never forget, bocchi the rock ep12 [08:41]
Another part of the music that was really appreciated wasn't just the amount of amazing inserts we got, but also how willing they were to throw in new EDs to separate each section of the show. If the viewer was worried that they'd get only a smidge of awesome songs because of the limited performances, there were also 4 different endings to chew through, and their placements couldn't be more awesome (a change in song for episode 8's legendary moment, and a cover song of an AKFG song for the finale)
As a fan of BAND-MAID, one night after watching all the top anime of this year I was just scrolling.. suddenly saw guitars, females and rock written in the cover. Since then, hooked to the core... 😂
drummers and bassists nodding to each other are pretty normal because they control the tempo together, and in starting a song it's usually that the two will try to sync up with each other. it's a nice caveat that ryo and nichika have the history and interact on stage, kinda because those instruments act as the root of a typical band.
that's why leader role should be always on drummer. i see many amateur band has dominated guitarist and drummer seems following the guitar flow. it's mess up the rhythm consistency
One thing I noticed about Bocci is that that animators take many shortcuts to make animating easier. I assume that this is to buy time so they can make the guitar playing section better (they actually play guitar! I think it's rotoscoped a bit too) However, the lower animation quality had SUCH a good execution that it's more taken as a joke than as a drop in animation quality.
Bocchi the Rock is the first anime I have truly looked forward to each week since I was a teenager, which is... quite something. Also, the fact it's a Japanese comedy where social anxiety and hikkikomori traits aren't looked at with pure escapism or schadenfreude is... just unique, to be honest. It doesn't glaze over the hardships, nor truly pokes at the character with a stick to torment them in their misery like so many other 'comedies' with a similar focus. The album being released early on Spotify was a genuine highlight of Christmas to me lmao
"It's a formula that's not unfamiliar, but with execution we've never seen" Wow what a perfect line to sum this amazing show!! Bocchi has been my favorite show this season even with such heavy hitters this fall. It's creativity and relatability is such a breath of fresh air compared to the uniform and mundane seasonal shows we've growth accustom to. The quality is fantastic and like you said the songs slap. (been on repeat for me at least). I'm happy to see so many creators like yourself making videos like this to express how great of a show this it. Thank you!

BOCCHI in Bocchi the Rock is a hidden gem anime character we can relate becoz of being alone for a long time. She as well as us are finding something we can belong to.
The Undertale reference (Toriel flying into a multitude of 3d cubes, source: Undertale release trailer) is just one of the reasons why this show will stay in a particular place of my heart.
Hey, great job! I just wanted you to know why I personally clicked on your video. Figured it'll help a bit. First off, it was Bocchi the Rock, I didn't want the anime to end, so as a copium mechanic I was watching every single Bocchi content I could find. And also your thumbnail was awesome. Easily one that would stand out easily, and I couldn't not click on it.
This is a perfect example of execution is the key. You can have one story piece and have several people interpret and execute it in different ways, some will be straightforward and faithful but others will be out there and be so different while still keeping the core of the story in place. Story writers especially in media like in film whether animated or live action in big screen or small screen need to pay attention to, how to execute something that can transcend beyond norms and expectations
There's two shows I love from slice of life, for very different reasons: Shonan Bakusouzoku (Bomber Bikers of Shonan) and Bocchi the Rock. Bocchi the Rock is one of the best comedies I have ever seen, it understands expression, exaggeration, and knowing when and where to use exaggeration and where to make it more serious, on a level that no other has really demonstrated in Japanese media. It still captures story and meaning, it has meaning and depth along with its comedy. Shonan Bakusouzoku is a laid back slice of pure 1980's 18 year olds. Motorcycles, boxing, surfing, what it means to be a man, and just day to day life with a gang of rough and tumble teens right on the cusp of becoming adults. It has comedy but most of it's just about the guys being guys and capturing that developmental period and the time. A feeling of nostalgia, even though none of us experienced 1980's Japanese high schooler life. These are the only two slice of life shows at all that I have a passion for. I hope one day Shonan Bakusouzoku gets the same recognition in the US, but I couldn't be happier for the incredible growth of word of mouth from Bocchi. The voice acting isn't talked about enough on that show as well, the VA for Bocchi absolutely nails it. Oh also heheh "butchy." She's not a butcher, Allen.

Thank you a ton for making this video! Every point you made about Bocchi the Rock hits the nail on the coffin pretty much. All of the little things here and there we see are just executed really well by the direction. The performances are so incredible, real, and filled with soul. That episode 12 performance holy crap. Words cannot describe how much this anime has struck a chord (haha) with me. Her depictions of social anxiety and inner self deprecation are exaggerated, but they are definitely real for someone who does have them. Sometimes the self deprecating inner self talk really does get too much, no matter how many times you, yourself, or others say otherwise. I'm glad to see how much growth she has had over the course of the series. It is so endearing to heartwarming to watch. I am a such a sucker for characters overcoming their inner thoughts, rising to their fullest potential, and showcasing their talent and hard work for everyone to see. I also loved seeing the inter-relationships develop between all of the characters. I just really want all of them to do their best and succeed. For Nijika's dream to come to fruition. For Bocchi to show what she can really do and overcome her inner demons. For Ryo to be herself (and stop eating weeds lol). I can tell there's something behind the scenes with Kita, and the anime lays some foundation in certain scenes. I hope to see that resolved one day. Comedy certainly is one of the building blocks that make up Bocchi the Rock with its gags, jokes, and creative animation. However, it's in certain scenes when it decides to get serious that allows Bocchi the Rock to elevate itself above the rest (such as that one particular scene in episode 8 with Nijika!).
i love how we always see kita watching bocchi and then we see her trying to focus on her guitar playing throughout their perfomances. its a really nice touch when we learn about how she wants to get better to be able to support bocchi and the group as a total. it shows just how inexperienced yet genuine she is. and in their last performance on their second song we see bocchi turn late, which i saw as an almost proof of her growth in learning to play with others and not just by herself
This anime speaks to me as an Introvert xD it easily will remain in my brain as the anime of all time in slice of life anime 😂 god I'm such a fan of Bocchi
I also love how the background characters have detail put into them too, unlike other anime where they just remove their eyes and make their hair black/brown. It's shown in the scene where Bocchi gives the drinks to a girl. I think it's so that the customer won't just be recognized as a background character, but an actual person that Bocchi has to face. I dunno, what do you guys think?
Yes, stuff like that really important to the narrative, it's crucial that the production team gets it. Another scene I love is when she finally looks at her street performance audiences, the perspective movement at play is absolute sakuga.
It would be real the most likely scenario although being alone isn’t a synonym with be unhappy so I think she will be happy and even though she still have social anxiety she can control it better and has a healthy group of friends.
I started watching Bocchi after the entire show was released... Because I was with my cousin and she had a bad day and I wanted something to cheer her up a bit and I remembered this comedy, slice of life that kinda looks like a K-on clone from outside and is being talked in the community recently and thought "idk, ig I should give it a go". BEST DECISION OF THE YEAR
This anime is totally the origin story of Band-Maid - a real Japanese band. Kanami the lead guitar in Band-Maid was also an introvert uploading her covers to internet. Kinda like Bochhi. Miku found Kanami and get her to form a band together like Nijika did with Bocchi - except Miku isn't a drummer. She's a vocalist who can't play guitar and had to learn to play rhythm guitar from Kanami, so very much like Ikuyo. Misa (bassist) is just like Ryo in personality, and she's also good friend with the drummer Akane before they join the band. The big difference is Band-Maid has 1 more member. The lead vocalist - Saiki who joined some time later through audition. I don't know... maybe they'll introduce another vocalist next season lol.
Love this show. Been lucky enough to have recently visited some of the real life locations used in the show. Including sitting on the swing Hitori is sitting on when Nijika first find hers 2:49
I was right about Bocchi the rock. I remember watching the trailer of anime and instantly grabbed my interest as I am a big fan of Band Anime, heck I didn't even think twice about watching it. Personally, Bleach, Chainsaw Man, Blue Lock, and Mob Psycho are amazing, but this anime is my top 1. Especially their songs, they do really slap.
This show inspired me to get back into guitar after quitting eight years ago. Wish I'd never quit in the first place, but here I am. Excellent show, would watch again.
5:08 actiually, interesting detail, Kita can be seen looking at the other band members (especially Bocchi) during performances because she’s less experienced and needs to pay more attention to stay at the same pace as the others.
You really did point out why this show was sooo good. I found myself laughing every week and jump to this show ahead of BlueLock, MHA, and all the other shows that came out the same day Bocchi did
i knew bocchi cuz its basically a manga paying homage to AKFG. never expected for the anime adaptation to be so good. the references, crazy and creative animations and specially the memes are hilarious. then there's the music and songs, all of em are bangers. and you cannot fault cute girls doing cute things, the show is also very relatable to the point it stings. definitely one of the enjoyable shows this year.
About the music, they ask some popular band composers to make the songs for the anime, like Kana-boon and the peggies, and even some math rock from Tricot. They also cover the main band reference song (asian kung-fu generation) Also, the way they make mistakes when performing is soo good... Arggh I have to stop before I become like Ryo
Funny enough this anime was big on the Latin American community since like ep 2. Between the joke of trash talking the main stream animes. A lot of people got into bocchi the rock and love it. Making it absurdly popular in the Spanish speaking community.

6:05 gotta say the lvs background tune you used caught my attention immediately. great choice my guy 👌🏼
lycoris recoil and bocchi the rock easily anime/s of the year for me
300sub ? You deserve 100k
i love how we always see kita watching bocchi and then we see her trying to focus on her guitar playing throughout their perfomances. its a really nice touch when we learn about how she wants to get better to be able to support bocchi and the group as a total. it shows just how inexperienced yet genuine she is. and in their last performance on their second song we see bocchi turn late, which i saw as an almost proof of her growth in learning to play with others and not just by herself
For me b4 starting the show I never anticipated I would get past episode 3 but it's Christmas day and am waiting for a bocchi episode
This video was so entertaining with all the different edits and humor! Amazing job! (:
It was a good show found it to be very funny and relatable 👍
Indeed my friend.
K-On walked so Bocchi could run
Plot twist Bochi became a school teacher when she grows up, still wearing her jerseys as her default when not working and no lovelife
It would be real the most likely scenario although being alone isn’t a synonym with be unhappy so I think she will be happy and even though she still have social anxiety she can control it better and has a healthy group of friends.
We have seen timeskip Bocchi a couple of times haha
My case is a zip hoodie but I actually like them from fashion view
bro talkin about the teacher from bokuben⁉️
Great stuff man! You got yourself a new sub. This is my favorite recent anime and you did a great job highlighting it in a concise manner.
holy crap nice video 👍 rlly high quality, loved it
Thank you so much!!!
This show understands what anxiety is like, ive never felt more understood by a show before
This is my first time i really want S2 so bad after watching it .
Bocchi the rock is awesome!!!
I just want nijika in my life.
She is all i wanted 😭
GOATED ONCE AGAIN
HAH THANK YOU
I was right about Bocchi the rock. Especially their songs, they do really slap.
kita-chan my beloved
This show inspired me to get back into guitar after quitting eight years ago. Wish I'd never quit in the first place, but here I am. Excellent show, would watch again.
I can’t stop hearing “bucchi” lmao
good video!
Lol yes. Which is extra weird since he said it as "bocchi" when saying "hitoribocchi" so...
"Pinnacle of Slice of Life", Nichijou anyone?
5:08 actiually, interesting detail, Kita can be seen looking at the other band members (especially Bocchi) during performances because she’s less experienced and needs to pay more attention to stay at the same pace as the others.
Genuinely my favourite anime of 2022
Bass, Guitar(1)Drum,Guitar(2)
Round 1.
Fight!
I only started watching Bocchi a few weeks back. Very glad that I did.
You really did point out why this show was sooo good. I found myself laughing every week and jump to this show ahead of BlueLock, MHA, and all the other shows that came out the same day Bocchi did
Actually I found Boochi when I was scrolling throught yt shorts and saw people copying her playing. As soon as I saw that I was down to watch it >:3
Guys, the show is there, it’s not going anywhere, just watch it whenever you have the time, it’s literally impossible to miss!
I highly highly recommend a place further than the universe if you want some great slice of life after this. And of course k on especially season 2
In Anime News Network’s cumulative rankings of the seasons anime put Bocchi at #1 for 8 weeks after the first four episodes released.
if there is a god i pray for a second season
Bocchi : what makes anime is *fun*
CSM : anime that trying to get *real*
the video was really good quality, gonna drop a sub
i'm ur biggest fan
sometimes i really like YT for showing me good quality content from very small creators in main page
Yeah, this was out of nowhere. In a brilliant year for series, this is my AotY. And that's from someone who loved Spy x Family and Lycoris Recoil...
FORREAL
gave it a shot since ep1 aired and so glad I did
blue lock might be my favourite from the season but bocchi is the contender for that tittle
if ONLY 1 new series from this season gets a part 2, please make it Bocchi.
azumanga daioh and bocchi will be my favorite animes frfr
i knew bocchi cuz its basically a manga paying homage to AKFG. never expected for the anime adaptation to be so good. the references, crazy and creative animations and specially the memes are hilarious.
then there's the music and songs, all of em are bangers. and you cannot fault cute girls doing cute things, the show is also very relatable to the point it stings. definitely one of the enjoyable shows this year.
It's like aqua teen hunger force and k-on had a child
In the words of Martin Scorsese: “This is cinema”
I see Bocchi the Rock, I like
Me too HAHA
This seems to be big on tumblr right now which kinda tells you everything important. It’s quality but it’s only exciting to a certain kind of person
About the music, they ask some popular band composers to make the songs for the anime, like Kana-boon and the peggies, and even some math rock from Tricot. They also cover the main band reference song (asian kung-fu generation)
Also, the way they make mistakes when performing is soo good... Arggh I have to stop before I become like Ryo
Truely the dark horse of its season. I found myself eagerly waiting for a new episode of bocchi than chainsaw man or bleach when I was watching this.
Funny enough this anime was big on the Latin American community since like ep 2. Between the joke of trash talking the main stream animes. A lot of people got into bocchi the rock and love it. Making it absurdly popular in the Spanish speaking community.
bocchi my goachi this is my favorite show ever probably
