I've noticed that poppy smiles more than when she did pop her expression was always blank but now that she's doing the genre she likes you can sometimes catch her give a small smile.

I started digging into it after ‘I Disagree’ album release and I fell in love, love all of her music, ‘Choke’ being my favorite song of hers following by ‘Sit/Stay’ and ‘Aristocrat’. Whenever gigs are possible, I’m attending her European leg of ID Tour. I went through mental, physical and sexual abuse, I deal with bipolar, bpd, ed, anxiety, adhd, suicidal tendencies, drug abuse, ptsd... and more and her music is actually saving me.
i never realized the true meaning behind this song- i always thought it was an edgy weird mix and never really enjoyed it- but i saw a comment about how this represents a deep depression state, and how people act more happy twords others before commiting suicide. The lines that hit me the most were "I tried eating ice cream, i tried to drink tea, but these lifeless flavors dont satisfy me." This felt like a "nothing else is working anymore" moment. It gave me chills. After i read that comment and listening to the style and the lyrics again, the song hits extremely different. Especially because i found this song (and poppy) when i was in a severely bad mental state. This song is one of my favorites now. Amazing songwriting poppy!!
I've thought a lot about the deeper meaning of this song and I've concluded that it's about masking depression and suicide awareness. The contrasting styles represents the dark thoughts people with severe depression deal with and the happy persona they put on around other people (while giving subtle hints that something's not quite right). Studies have found that severy depressed people tend to exhibit much more positive behavior shortly before attempting suicide, and this song and video capture that duality so well in the last section with the happy concert and the gravedigging, it's honestly chilling when you realize the message it's sending. The fact that very few people know what the song is about, or even try to find a deeper meaning drives the point home further. We need to really listen and look out for each other, even when everything appears to be fine. I was in a dark place mentally when I discovered this album and the message of this song in particular really hit me. It made me push myself to be more open around my friends for my own well being. This album really is a masterpiece in my opinion, and it blows any of my favorites from the last decade out of the water.

Now, I agree with your interpretation of the music, and when listening to it I felt the exact same thing, but in a different way. I related it to Bill Wurtz, that makes such weirdly depressing songs and hides them behind a cheery melody. A good example is "la de da de da de da de day oh", mostly because just as this song does, it doesn't really hide the depression but makes it apparent, and in that video it even drops the act entirely at the end as it does here with the shift in genre. While I disagree slightly with how you phrased your points, and I don't think the contrasting styles are supposed to represent the differences in thoughts and expression, since if I recall from hearing it (terrible short term memory, excuse me if I'm wrong), the dark thoughts were present even in the cheery music parts and were just masked by the happiness, which I wouldn't say directly shows that the signs are always there and we just have to look for them, but that's just our immediate interpretation of the lyrics. More personally, having just come out of a depressive and suicidal rut, the contrast between the regular me and the moments before my attempts did also exist heavily.
