I'm quite familiar with similar subsidised routes within Greece; due to the high number of remote places (often islands) these kind of routes are crucial to the people living at these locations. Especially during winter time as there are otherwise no commercial/tourist flights at all. Prices are a fair bit higher than 20 pounds though. But it's always fun to fly the small turboprops, definitely worth to try every once a while!
Very thoughtful of you Paul to add a note in the video to not book as a group to advise people looking for some "fun" from blocking the entire aircraft. Nice trip report as always. Hope you are enjoying your full time travel vloging 😀
It looks like a lovely wee flight! There's something so charming about wee unknown airports and hidden flights like this :) Looks like I'm gonna be having a restful Sunday catching up on your videos, great review as always Paul!
I've walked to Gatwick before, but it's only a 45min walk for me :P (actually really interesting, as theres a public path that passes directly beside the landing lights at the end of the runway, being a few tens of meters under a huge passenger jet as it lands is quite the experience :D )
Came to the channel today to see whether the Wales videos were up, so very happy to see them! I was on the same GWR service from London the day you took the train to Anglesey-are you going to cover that part of the trip (including if I remember rightly a brief stop in Port Talbot?!) In a video? The breakfast on that train is always a real treat
Great trip report as always Paul. I did this trip but the other way round CWL-VLY back in October last year, brilliant views enroute, enjoyed the drink and snack onboard and visited the cockpit at the end, a £19 well spent.

Very quaint airport!! Love it! The Turbo driven props still sound great. After this flight and watching your train trip last week I am putting Wales right up there on the "wish" list! You were blessed with the weather and some great views out the window! Well done Paul!!
Another unique video. The terminal reminded my of the one used at the now Belfast City airport when it was operated by Shorts. Just a portacabin and door to the tarmac. More unusual videos please - you dont see content like this very often and its very nice to watch.
It’s probably a long way out of your way, but would love to see you do a trip to South America, starting with a trip to the Falklands on the AirTanker service from RAF Brize Norton, then do a couple of hops around the islands on FIGAS, then fly out to Punta Arenas, Chile on the LATAM flight? Lots of possibilities from there.

Reminds me of a flight from Guernsey to Alderney when I was a teenager. I think that the plane was a deHaviland Dove. Whatever it was, it had just replaced a biplane called a Dragon Rapide which must have been pre-war. Anyway the Dove held a total passenger load of 12! The "hostess" welcomed us, escorted us to our seats, handed out the complimentary refreshments (orange juice, cheese sandwich, a buttered scone and an apple). She then read out the safety instructions, wished us a pleasant flight and got out fastening the door behind her! There was another lady at Alderney who boarded the plane on arrival, welcomed us to the island and escorted us to the terminal ! At that time The Goon Show was in full outrageous flood on the BBC. I wrote to Spike Milligan telling him this tale and suggesting it could form the nucleus of an idea for a show. Incidentally, in Welsh, one "f" is pronounced as "v" ,. 2 "ff" are pronounced as "f" so the airport which you mentioned is correctly pronounced as Carnarvon. Best Wishes.
I looked forward to this video and I wasn't disappointed. Excellent reporting of the flight and how it is operated. I wish my local RAF base (Marham) had flights to Cardiff at £19.99. I noticed you on the bus after the flight. Was that the shuttle bus to Cardiff Airport (Rhoose) railway station or was it the direct bus to your destination?
We travel to Cardiff a few times a year by train or car but this looks a very relaxed and cheap way of doing things and on a day similar to the day you travelled, beautiful scenery. Thanks for the video - keep the reports coming.
When you mentioned row one was removed because of the Jumpseat, meaning the Flight Attendant Jumpseat? TranStates Airlines and Atlantic Coast Airlines in the U.S. had the FA Jumpseat in the back of their J-41
Been on this route before, absoloutely incredible. Saves money and time flying the route vs getting the train or driving. Much needed link between the North and South.
Like this one Paul! May try it at some point :) just seen you’ll be doing Thomas cook JFK-MAN, well I did a MAN-LAX return with Thomas cook last October in the back however I was really impressed, however food on the return isn’t James Martin and was a let down. Was looking at doing the same this year but bags and meals are not included as standard anymore which I think is a shame
Took this flight on 22nd December 2017 with a group of friends. We booked our seats in July as our football team were playing in Barry the following day. I have to say the manager of the airport did her best not to let us fly that day saying as we were a group & not individual travelers & we should have been at the airport 2 hours before take off & not the 45 minutes it said on the ticket we were eventually allowed to fly . Once on board it turns out that the aircraft we were meant to be on was grounded at Cardiff & with us turning up for the flight they had to send a plane from Humberside to fly us to Cardiff the airport manager did her best to make this flight not happen for us
For several years there was an airplane trip in Michigan that was 9 miles by air or 50 miles by road and going in and out of Canada. It was made easier since the pilot was a teacher in the school. His normal passenger load was eight students in the Twin Bonanza.
I flew on Eastern Airways’s J41 from Newcastle to Belfast City shortly after Citywing collapsed and for short while they operated that route with tickets at £53.99 and that wasn’t subsidised and my flight only had 7 passengers. It was no surprise that this route then collapsed. That was the cheapest, non subsidised way of trying a J41. Do you know why APD isn’t charged on this route? Is it because of the subsidy? There also was no inflight service on my flight.

I wouldn't say Eastern had that high a rep for customer satisfaction, they're either always cancelling or delaying flights in my experience at least 😅That said thanks for highlighting this hidden gem Paul, might have to take it sometime, could even book myself into the officers mess at Valley and get cheap accommodation too if I was feeling cheeky enough.
I've been waiting a long time to see this video after having a conducted tour of the base courtesy of the then Station Chaplain, the late Squadron Leader Rev Peter Tollerson. I live in Anglesey and often watch the aircraft at Valley. I thoroughly enjoyed your efforts. Many thanks!
Just a few words from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. I live in Montreal and my daughter lives in Baie-Comeau (that's like south Quebec and north Quebec). A 700 km distance which takes about 6 hours by car. Now, if I were to fly there, it would cost me $250 CDN or 140 pounds, one way and this flight would take around 2 hours that includes a layover! Oh and no train available and if there was one, it would be more expensive. May I just say that you are a lucky dude living where travelling is so affordable. Just to give you some comparison, if I were to take a round trip flight from Montreal to Hawaii, advance booking could cost me around $450.
Western Queensland has similar partly subsidised flights that link the remote western interior of Queensland with major coastal cities. Most of the areas serviced by such flights in western Queensland don't have any rail or bus services as an alternative. But the flights are far longer than this one. But use SAAB 340 aircraft from the 1990s. They are operated by REX airlines and occasionally Qantaslink. Definitely worth a ride if you visit Australia. Yesssss thats a sweet shot of the propeller during takeoff very very amazing angle I like that shot!!! great job great video as always looking forward to the next trip report
Interesting report. In America, some of those flights like Baltimore, MD to Lancaster, PA are done by 9 seat prop planes. They are also subsided, so round trip is $60 USD. They can also disappear very quickly as budget priorities change.
You should try flying on some of the HOP planes, I flew from Strasbourg to Amsterdam and the layout was 2-1. I managed to book a solo seat at check in and it was by far the nicest flight I've ever had. Good memories 👌
Very reminiscent of flying from Cambridge Airport to Manchester on Suckling Airways The check in desk was that. An actual desk. Bing, Bong. "Suckling Airways announce the arrival of flight 1 from Amsterdam" Bing, Bong "Will passengers for Suckling Airways flight number 2 to Manchester please proceed to the departure lounge" ie, please go next door. When arriving back to Cambridge from Manchester, if Mrs Suckling was not around the staff would unload the hold of the Dornier Do228 and pass out your checked baggage on the tarmac. If she was around then the luggage was put on a trolley and the staff would put it on the high end of a roller belt that protruded from the building so that you could go inside and have the thrill of picking it up from the low end of the roller belt for the full luggage collection experience.
I wondered why i'm subbed to your channel, I hate flying...it's an irrational fear rather than anything to do with the flights themselves. Good content is the answer. For a layman the videos where you talk more are much more enjoyable. You've clearly got a good knowledge about the subject and for me the key to a good channel is personality as much as the content. A good personality and knowledge makes all the difference. Hope you continue with this theme of more commentary about your trips. If you're ever considering expanding your content beyond the airport gates I for one would be really interested in seeing the cities/towns you end up in once you've departed passport control.
Nice video Paul I love these little regional aircraft and I have never known that there has been a flight out of Valley. I have been through valley on the train it’s good for military aircraft spotting! 👍😀
I did this flight back in 2013 when It was operated by Van Air Europe. I live in North West England so I had to get the train to Holyhead and then a local bus to RAF Valley. On the return leg I had to get a taxi to the local railway station. It's very isolated but it was worth it. Cost me £50 return.
I can assure anyone who wants to drive to north wales it is a good 4 hour trip and I live in South Wales however if you are going to Holyhead the countryside is the best you can get. Just expect to get behind sheep farmers and tractors.
Last time I was back in Scotland, I found out that you could get Oban-Tiree on an Islander for about £30 one-way. Found out too late to actually do it, of course. Arrester cable markings at 5:11. We have those here in OUL, along with an arrester net; the Finnish Air Force brings its F-18s here to play sometimes.

Wow what an amazing price and thumbs up to the Welsh Assmbly for subsidising the cost
The weather in Wales is wonderful. A typo on screen Llandrwog instead of Llandwrog.
(Not secret) 29€ flight: HEL-OSL. By Norwegian, also not subsidised at all.
Fun video Paul!! 👍
Howdy, great review as always!😸😸
It looked like the VLY area was in dire need of rainfall, based on the brown grass. Looked like Cardiff had been having more precipitation.
Nice video Paul I love these little regional aircraft and I have never known that there has been a flight out of Valley. I have been through valley on the train it’s good for military aircraft spotting! 👍😀
A small and cute airport, no mistaking the departure gate here!
Great video I live on Anglesey
Wonder how many people miss boarding after they check in.
Up on the train and back on the plane - sounds like a holiday plan to me
You almost to 100K, good job
Another informative video, thanks!
Excellent review! Road to 100K
I think this is my favorite travel report yet!!!!
Great video! I've done that flight but i wasn't as lucky as you to get those spectacular views!
Brilliant as always, one definitely to do!
Now that Flybe has now ceased trading, who operates this flight now or is it still even in service?
Still Eastern Airways. You can book direct with them.
