I love your videos, Mark. I did a day trip from Gatwick to Dublin for £20 return a few years ago. And when I was last in Liverpool I was looking for a interesting way to get home and found a Ryanair flight from Liverpool to Knock in Iteland then a flight from there to Luton, all for £19.99. Even at 82, I still enjoy doing the trips you do. Looking forward to your next trip.

I used to go from Liverpool to Dublin for a night out . In the early days of Ryanair . Their £1 flights. We could stay at a hostel for €5 a night . It was cheaper than a taxi home from Liverpool. Did it over a dozen times. Not too sure I’d do it now , prefer a bit more luxury these days. 😊

Cheers Colin. Yep, just take it nice and slow with the booking. Remember what the price is and as long as it’s still the same when you get to the payment page you’ve done the right thing 👍
I fly with Ryanair about eight times a year. They have an app for booking and it usually takes me about 90 seconds to book a flight. With the app it's easier to skip the add-ons and I never pay for anything apart from the fare. The app also helps with the boarding passes (which you don't need to print) and provides gate information quicker than the airport signs.
HI Mark, I certainly do not think it was a complete pointless waste of time. Such a novel way of having a Guinness and good on you. Great video to watch as usual. I am doing Manchester to Palma in September and coming back the next day. Most people think I'm bonkers but I just love flying! I like the Ryanair 737-800s! At least I can enjoy some nice food, drinks and sun! Happy travels. 🙂
It's not pointless i did a day trip to Dublin last year on Aer Lingus from Heathrow booked through skyscanner. Had a full day in Dublin arriving at 07:40 & returning to Heathrow in the evening & back home near Oxford before midnight.
I do that route at least twice a month. I check in on the app around 3hrs before flying so probably one of the last to check in and you can see which seats are free then.

Nice video good day out. Was that kielys pub. You are right cost an arm and a leg in the city. My daughter lives in Milton Keynes anx i 've taken day trips to luton from dublin. All for under 30 euro great value. But last time i forgot to check in for return flight tried in vain back at rhe airport check in online to late. Had to go to the ryanair desk. It cost me 55 str God a costly mistake. But still a great day. Kerp up the good videos.
Seemed like a value for money day out Mark, interesting seeing what the cost of each thing you did was. Disappointed you didn't go into Mcdonald's though !! :) Haha
Hello Mac I just came across your video there sitting there in the coach man's looking at you drinking that creamy point I have just rang my friend and decided let's go for a Guinness I will be following you as a regular now you're extremely down to earth which is what I like about you keep up the good work😊
Enjoyed this one! I did the same from Luton and cost me $50 Australian return. Just make sure you print or have your boarding passes prior to getting to the airport as you’ll get slugged at the gate!
Great video as always!! Mine is the same as yours with security and with people that faff about putting their stuff in the trays before security as well. Hope all is well, take care
😮 wow Mark cheap as chips what a fantastic day out for £70 a steel well done my friend I would have had another Guinness to celebrate this wonderful trip all the best John 😊
Hi Mark, I've done Glasgow International to Dublin quite a few times for the daytrip, early morning out, last one back, prices range, cheapest I've paid was £15 return , fantastic day out but as you say Dublin city centre is very expensive so that cheap airfare can end up costing plenty 😅
£15’s pretty good. Thing for me is I don’t live close enough to an airport so it’s always going to be lunchtime flights really which does shorten the time at my destination considerably. Looking for other ideas though 👍
Great pub experience. Last time I stayed overnight in Dublin I was staying at a hotel not far from that pub. And indeed I have been to several pubs around Ireland, even in small villages, where for a fiver you could get a pint. But the cheapest pint of Guinness I had was in Northern Ireland, at the Blakes of the Hollow pub in Enniskillen at £4.00 approximately, I definitely would recommend that pub to you as it is iconic. If I must recommend another Irish good pick for beer, go around Cork and especially in Cobh and try a Beamish. Absolutely lovely. As for the rate of change of Ryanair, I had the same experience when booking flights from the UK to Malta or from Hungary to Italy where they attempted to overcharge me with their change rates but I usually inform myself about currency change and refuse that option as you did
Cheers Enrico, good to hear someone else is aware of the preferable exchange rate (preferable for them of course!). I have tried Beamish in a Cork and that is, I reckon, the best stout I’ve ever had. I would recommend Quinlans fish restaurant in the centre for fish, chips, curry sauce to go with it. Also excellent! 👍
@@LetsMakeaTrip having lived in Cork I remember that restaurant so well. When I returned to Cork last year on holiday to visit an ex colleague of mine I took him there
Nice video and tip about Ryanair and their exchange rate. I also tell people when using card to pay whatever the locals pay, even if you are give the choice to pay in £. Works out cheaper even if there is a transaction charge.
There's a pub on the main road outside Dublin Airport that's much nearer than The Coachman's, so I was wondering how you missed that - called Kealy's. Liked your video.
Cheers Michael. I didn’t miss Kealy’s, I saw the pub on Google Maps and looking on its website it called itself a ‘food, bar and party venue’. I’m sure it’s fine but I just didn’t fancy it as much tbh.
Reminds me of the time I flew from Stansted to Dublin for the day just to buy some decent Irish sausages and bacon. The return fare was £19.98 plus whatever I paid to reserve a seat, which I cant remember. I am very lucky to live a 10 minute train ride away from Stansted Airport and have done many short journeys to various places. I have never had any issues with Ryanair. If it wasn't for them, many people would not be able to experience the joy of travel and exploring new places.
Interesting! Ryanair will thank you for the free AD too. Frankly, it was a cheap day out, had you taken the bus to the City of Dublin, there would have been more point to it, but you demonstrated that this is practical.
Nice day trip that. I flew to Copenhagen for a day trip, and a few months later I did a day trip to Lisbon, with Easyjet and Wizzair. If you get an early morning flight out, and a late evening flight back, it's amazing what you can do in the time you have there.
The offer of payment in Sterling happens now whenever you use your card overseas, even in shops and restaurants. It's not a Ryanair thing and Amazon, PayPal, etc. do it too. I guess some people might want to avoid a charge by their bank but as you state, it's usually better to pay in the local currency.
Yes good value and a good day out. Like you I rarely book a specific seat with Ryanair and often get a window seat. Other than coffee which is good on Ryanair thats the only extra I will buy. Regarding your pint - be it Guinness or beer, it is always better in Ireland. Barmen are trades people in Ireland and know how to pull pints, in England its very much luck of the draw depending on whatever part-timer is working there on the day
Yep, totally agree Frank. And tbh, I’m not normally filming a Ryanair flight so it doesn’t really matter to me if I end up in a middle or aisle seat. Get what you pay for and I have absolutely no complaints with their flights. Just need to be aware of stuff when booking 👍
@@LetsMakeaTrip modified? I had no idea that they did that, it must have cost a fair bit but anything to save fuel. I did notice in one of the clips that they didn’t have the extended nose gear and the CFM engines were in the right place so you’re right. I’m not sure I’d want to fly on the max anyway. I’m just down the road in Buildwas by the way.
@@g7eit Nice one! Yep I think most of the old ones are retro-fitted with these now (to save fuel). You’ll notice on the Max the angle on the upper ‘pointy-bit’ is sharper as well. I’ve flown on a couple now and honestly it’s no different to the others but it’s difficult to shake-off the previous issues, I get that. I know Buildwas well, used to gig there a lot 👍
@@LetsMakeaTrip I know it’s very silly of me but I can’t get over this MCAS thing due to raising the engines and as for the AOA sensor….. I’d want to do the walk around myself 😂. Why they took an amazing aircraft and spoiled it, I don’t know.
I did the day trip to Dublin, but from the Isle of Wight, begining with a 4:15am ferry! Train to Gatwick, Ryanair to Dublin - had my pint in O'Connel Street though, but it was excellent... The plan was to be on the midnight ferry back, but the flight back was delayed, so it was overnight at Gatwick =- you win some, you lose some! Still, I had a great time, it added another country/airline/aircraft type to my list, though being in my 70's now I'll wait a while before my next adventure...
I would do it it’s what I would call a blokes day out trip ! Bit of a top gear type challenge let’s take a plane and see how cheap to go to Dublin for the best Guinness 😀what I would say I’ve been to Dublin a few times and had a Guinness a few times ( like you do ) and found it no better tasting than in England , and that includes having a pint in the Sky Bar at the Guinness brewery. But I wouldn’t argue the toss over it I’m sure it’s a personal thing, great video I really do enjoy following you trips out.
Thanks mate. I’m sure some of the taste thing is subjective and maybe being over there taints the judgement a bit etc etc. best I had actually was a Beamish in Cork (where you would expect it to be good of course!).
You got that right, that the only place to buy a decent pint of Guinness is in Ireland! But that's a bit extreme, going out for one in a plane 👍 love it! That said I've spent more on a night out than you did on those airfares 😁 my nephew had a decent one in the Clayton hotel at the airport last week on our Denmark trip though that place in Swatragh looks to have a lot more character about it. I liked too that you went home a different route to going out, that's very me 😆 Slainte! 👌
Cheers Phil. I’m doing more of these flying out and back using different airports. Seems to be working out cheaper and LPL, BHX & MAN are all about the same distance from me 👍
@@LetsMakeaTrip good man. I'm off to IOM in the new week, I can do it direct from here but being me of course I'm flying into MAN and back from Speke. 😁👌
Always good to do a random day out. I have several more trips booked with Ryanair this year to Estonia (Flying out with Wizzair) flying back from Poland and to Copenhagen for the Christmas Markets. I flew with them earlier this year out to Warsaw and back from Prague. Easy to book and generally very reliable. I speak over the phone to colleagues and customers in Dublin everyday at work but I have never been so a day trip maybe on the cards as the fares from Manchester are always cheap.
It always seems cheap to Dublin though depends on the flight times really. This is when I wish I lived closer to an airport! I tend to miss the early flights because of train times.
You can also do daytrips to Milan with Ryanair if you fancy getting some authentic Italian food. As a bonus, Malpensa Airport has direct trains to Lugano in Switzerland (S50), so you can also grab some Swiss cheese and chocolate while you're at it. From Manchester, it is also possible to daytrip to Geneva on some days with EasyJet, so that's an option if you're after Swiss chocolate or cheese.
You forgot to mention the swiss wines having worked in the "valais"region (sion is the bic city in that area)I can tell you they make great wines but i think they save them for the swiss only, i live in the Rhône Alpes region in France and have never seen a swiss wine anywhere in the 30 odd years i've been here 😢😢
You were lucky to allow to be moved. On every Ryanair flight I've been on, the crew has reminded passengers to sit in allocated seats 'due to the weight distribution of the aircraft' etc. etc. Dublin makes a great day trip. I remember at the start of the year travel guru Simon Calder said the days of cheap day trips were over. Nah, I don't think so.
How can anyone say that was a waste of time and money. That looked great fun, just a good day out, something more interesting tan just going to the pub, and all for less than £70! Absolute bargain.
That was certainly not a waste of time. Travel is wonderful. I think I’d have made more of your time in Ireland 🇮🇪 though. I’ve done day trips on Ryanair in the past. Did Belgium, Holland, Germany and Slovakia all day trips. I must do it again sometime but Stansted is a 1.5 hour drive and I’d have to pay for parking etc. You can’t beat world travel though 👍
Good tip, and to add further: always pay in local currency, your bank will invariably give you a better FX rate than an airline, or other business for that matter
A few years ago i went to Dublin from Newcastle for the Stout twenty quid return. Done it twice, my boss went there for two quid return. No fuss no worry and planes never late what more can you ask of them.
My mother and my brothers all worked in The Coachman's for years. My first ever job was in the sister pub further out on the coast in Malahide. Never expected it to feature in one of your videos 😂
Also if it ever tickles your fancy if you turn right coming out of the airport there's also Kealys pub which is good too. Or jump on a 41 bus and head the 3 miles to Swords for a whole range of excellent pubs
Ah brilliant! I did see Kealy's on the map when I was researching this. Only reason I didn't go there really was because The Coachmans seemed to have more history and I thought maybe it would be a bit more 'traditional' and also being a bit further out may have been slightly cheaper. I stand to be corrected but that was the thinking. I would certainly give Kealy's a go next time though.
hello i think this is a cheap dsy out with the luxery of flying too and u get a proper guiness too.great airport too.i love your channel and travels too.
Maybe not an average day out, but hey, you got a pint out of it. And it was an interesting pub for sure! I recall my friend Paul in Penzance being pleasantly surprised (but definitely surprised) when i rode the train to Penzance just to have a couple of beers with him before riding straight back again. It was just after Covid restrictions had been lifted, and as i had been recently vaccinated, it seemed something i could do to finally travel on a train again. ... and yes, i know what you mean about the people in security...
It's all about the getting there isn't it mate (as you know). Gotta say though, it does help if there's a decent hostelry at the end of it! Next trip to Ireland is imminent so plenty more will be consumed!!
Another good video Mark I really enjoyed this video. Very interesting that Ryanair would have a strange way of paying in different currency's but the flight with Ryanair without any luggage is very cheap for the flight and specially some places that you can fly too with Ryanair as they cover most of Europe and parts of northern Africa. I have never flown on a airliner but certainly I would love to do but just be aware that airlines can be cheap with just a passenger (no luggage) but can cost a Arm and a Leg with luggage due to the restriction of the aircraft. I was looking at flights from London Stansted to Oslo with Ryanair which was very cheap but with luggage the price went up by £70 and I think that is one way (single) Lovely Pub aswell at Dublin where you had a drink I went to the Station Inn at Ribblehead a week or so ago one evening when I was on holiday in Yorkshire (26th August this comment) Their food was really nice and the staff were very friendly 👍
Wetherspoons in Dublin City center do a pint of Beamish currently for 4 Euro 25 cents .Wetherspoons have 2 Pubs in Dublin City Center ,plus a few others in the Suburbs .One is in Swords village next to the Airport .Its called "the Borough " Regular bus from the Airport .Takes about 30 minutes with stops .Wetherspoons do not sell Guinness in Southern Ireland though .They do up North .
109R is gate 109 right each gate can accomadate 2 narrowbodies L + R , if the craft using the gate is a widebody it would be 109 C, ( 16 yrs career in airport), but like your vids!
Lesson to be learned. Flew from Australia to Dublin. Absolutely jetlagged to the max. Could not get accommodation in Dublin BECAUSE....it was a weekend and people from the UK fly there for a Guiness weekend. You have been warned 😫
thanks. parents lived near Ballybrophy a station you visited on your railway trip. Lived there for 36 years so regularly drank the dark stuff over that period. In 1976 when they moved there Guinness Cold was unheard of and that pre cold pint was awesome drunk through a very creamy head took about 5 minutes to settle so you ordered 3 at any given moment. Always found over the years that the Guinness outside Dublin in the small bars had an edge. 5 Euros a good price have recently heard of 9/10 in Dublin. Would I do that trip for the price you paid probably yes but my Guinness bill would have been a lot higher!!!
Haha, cheers Kevin - my bar bill would normally be higher too though I don’t tend to drink at all in the day normally. First time I tried Guinness was at the Hay-on-Wye book festival where I got extremely drunk and ended up sitting in a field with some horses on the way back to the campsite. Great days!
I can see why some people would say it's a waste of time but what you did made it a day out didn't it particularly id you enjoy catching planes, trains, coaches and busses. The Guinness as you say would be better too, however I'm not a Guinness man so I would have to go for a pint of Orchard Thieves cider that I was recommended by a Paddywagon coach tour driver the last time I spent some time there.
I don’t mind cider in the summer - Aspalls with loads of ice on a hot day. But yes it’s as much about the trip as having a drink tbh. I’d definitely do it again for the price I paid 👍
Awesome day trip Mark. Were the flight tickets available at short notice? I did something similar in June 2023 - Train Nottingham-Holyhead, Ferry to Dublin, flight Dublin-East Midlands. The most expensive bit was the Travelodge in Holyhead! Any more of the same planned?

:) Haha
Thanks Mark, you keep making em, and we will keep watching,
Have you done new haven to dieppe? Maybe a day trip, or an overnighter,
Cheers mate. I haven’t done Newhaven - Dieppe, no. Next ferry for me is Ulysses back on the Holyhead - Dublin route 👍
@@LetsMakeaTrip no one has gone from pembroke dock to Ireland, another one to consider,
Hello Mac I just came across your video there sitting there in the coach man's looking at you drinking that creamy point I have just rang my friend and decided let's go for a Guinness I will be following you as a regular now you're extremely down to earth which is what I like about you keep up the good work😊
Brilliant Noel, this is the point of the channel (to some extent). Glad you found it useful! 👍😊
liverpool is a boss airport , but dublin can be madness going through security and that walk off the ryanair flights is a long walk indeed .
Agree with all those points 👍
Enjoyed this one! I did the same from Luton and cost me $50 Australian return. Just make sure you print or have your boarding passes prior to getting to the airport as you’ll get slugged at the gate!
Great video as always!! Mine is the same as yours with security and with people that faff about putting their stuff in the trays before security as well. Hope all is well, take care
another great upload....you shoud have had a pint of smithwicks red irish ale .....next beer tap beside the guinness tap...
Cheers mate, I’ll have a go on that next time I’m over 👍
😮 wow Mark cheap as chips what a fantastic day out for £70 a steel well done my friend I would have had another Guinness to celebrate this wonderful trip all the best John 😊
We flew from Liverpool absolutely brilliant 👍Flew from Manchester absolute chaos 😡😊
As for the rate of change of Ryanair, I had the same experience when booking flights from the UK to Malta or from Hungary to Italy where they attempted to overcharge me with their change rates but I usually inform myself about currency change and refuse that option as you did
What a bargain 👍
Cheers Enrico, good to hear someone else is aware of the preferable exchange rate (preferable for them of course!). I have tried Beamish in a Cork and that is, I reckon, the best stout I’ve ever had. I would recommend Quinlans fish restaurant in the centre for fish, chips, curry sauce to go with it. Also excellent! 👍
@@LetsMakeaTrip having lived in Cork I remember that restaurant so well. When I returned to Cork last year on holiday to visit an ex colleague of mine I took him there
Great trip cheap day out gave me some great ideas thanks
Well that was a grand day out surprising what you can do in a day enjoyed your video 📹 😊
The Coachmans! Great pub- lovely carvery and the best Guinness for miles !
Mmmm, no such thing as a lovely carvery.
@@murpho999 Love the food in the Coachmen's
I love watching your trips from Dublin.
I love these kind of videos, why not take an adventure if you can. I would love to do the same. Great work mark
I enjoyed watching your trip! I'm going to Dublin next year so interesting to see the flight
Thanks, I hope you have a good time 😊👍
Interesting!
I agree Rob. Trouble for me is I don’t live that close to an airport so it’s lunchtime really before I leave.
I am flying from Dublin to Liverpool next week.and it cost me in total €52 return.
I love ryanair.
Cheers Mark, you have got me looking at a long weekend to Dublin..
If you can afford the accommodation, go for it. 👍
I believe that’s a Max-8. The winglets are up & down. Great video, I’d love to do something like that.
It’s a 787-800 with the modified winglets. If you look closely, there are subtle differences.
Great video! Hardest working man on youtube! Dublin is a lovely city.
Haha, cheers Greg. Not sure I’m the hardest-working - I get tired too easily these days!
I love Dublin my mums from there and you can’t beat a Dublin Guinness !
ate a few times at the coachmens inn last spring on my trip to Dublin. Stayed in swords. Lovely carvery
Cheers, Mark, great video as usual
A very good trip !
"I was yet again allowed to board a plane" 😂 So you haven't been added to the Naughty List yet then
Not yet mate. There’s always time! 😂
Brilliant day out!
Thanks Roy 😊👍
Good tip, and to add further: always pay in local currency, your bank will invariably give you a better FX rate than an airline, or other business for that matter
Yep, you’ve explained it better than me 👍
A few years ago i went to Dublin from Newcastle for the Stout twenty quid return. Done it twice, my boss went there for two quid return. No fuss no worry and planes never late what more can you ask of them.
You cannot go wrong for that mate! Wish I’d have done some of those £1 fares back in the day too 👍
My mother and my brothers all worked in The Coachman's for years.
People pulling suitcases on trollies behind them, stopping, turning, leaving everyone to avoid tripping over their suitcase
Yep, that’s another one!
hello i think this is a cheap dsy out with the luxery of flying too and u get a proper guiness too.great airport too.i love your channel and travels too.
Great love day trips like this
Maybe not an average day out, but hey, you got a pint out of it.
I was looking at flights from London Stansted to Oslo with Ryanair which was very cheap but with luggage the price went up by £70 and I think that is one way (single)
Lovely Pub aswell at Dublin where you had a drink I went to the Station Inn at Ribblehead a week or so ago one evening when I was on holiday in Yorkshire (26th August this comment) Their food was really nice and the staff were very friendly
👍
Nothing beats a Guinness in Ireland, no matter how long your flight!
True! Always something to look forward to for me regardless of how I get there.
Cracking day out and thankfully no sunburn this day 🥵😎😁
Im Irish and ive never had a Guinness. Being from Cork i have had a Beamish and a Murphys
Best I ever had was a Beamish in Cork. Beautiful!
@@LetsMakeaTrip I rate it equal to Guinness ,but its bound to be best in Cork where its brewed.
very good video mark not bad a great flight
Cheers Caleb 😊👍
Not a bad day out Mark. Nothing pointless in that if you enjoy it mate. 👍
Cheers Simon. I enjoy the travelling aspect so it’s all part of the fun for me (though I know some people just want to get there).
109R is gate 109 right each gate can accomadate 2 narrowbodies L + R , if the craft using the gate is a widebody it would be 109 C, ( 16 yrs career in airport), but like your vids!
Ah brilliant John, I'm glad someone helped me out on this. Didn't realise the 'C' gate was for widebodies. Makes perfect sense now - cheers.
My only nearby airport is Stansted, London, a horror from start to finish, I haven't flown for 3 years now! Not worth the stress!
I booked this just a few weeks in advance (which is late for me tbh). This videos done surprisingly well so yes there will be plans to do some more 👍
Pier D is mainly used by Ryanair but SAS, Swiss, Air Transat, Westjet occasionally use it as well 🇮🇪👍
Interesting, thanks Evan!
