God damn this year blows...RIP to the great RG...if ever someone should have been a much bigger star than he was, it was him. When you can take a great song like this & make it even greater, you are indeed a major talent. See ya down the road, RG...someday, someway...
Don't feel too bad Bob had a Great run what he and Link did together is immortal! He left an incredible legacy! We all gotta cross to the other side! But I know exactly how you feel!
He was the right artist entering the scene at the wrong time. The rockabilly craze of the late 70s to mid 80s died out WAY too fast. It's a shame, because this guy was amazing.
I always thought he had a lot of guts to take on the 50s persona during the 1980s, I guess he proved that good music is timeless. I saw him in Boston at a dive called The Channel. He was great.
Mr. Gordon, THE VOICE!, is one of the very few artists who sound EVEN BETTER live than on record. I have had the great pleasure to see him twice on stage. He sends shivers down my spine like no one else... Have loved him since early 80's.
Easily one of the best rock covers of all time. Robert has the heart, talent and passion to pull it off. I first saw Robert w/Chris Spedding at the Cleveland Agora in the late 70's. I still consider it one of the top 10 greatest rock concerts I've been lucky enought to attend. This includes the Beatles,Hendrix,The Who,Springsteen and Roy Orbison... Gordon should be inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame without hesitation or question.......The Minister of Rock and Roll-Luther Heggs
I have this on vinyl. For some reason I couldn't remember his name last night and kept thinking it was Dwight Twilley. I own some albums I only bought because I thought they would be impossible to find in the future and on some of them I'm probably right.
I adore this man fir 35 yrs!!!!! Most amazing voice met him and a small venue upstate NY. state with my daughter was about 5 years old at the time he was the nicest man he signed everything held my daughter I got a beautiful picture of us with him holding her. It was on my my bucket list to meet him and I did!!!♡♡♡♥♥♥
+Ann Healey your the same picture that popped up on my facebook page advertising a pole stripper for hire. someone is using your picture for the wrong reasons. you better look into it.
I saw Robert Gordon on tour right around this time (early 1979). The gig was in a cafeteria on the campus of UMass-Amherst on a weekend afternoon and was lightly attended. He did this number along with many others and it was great.
Robert Gordon rules, he's one of the best singers that never made it really big.I used to go watch him around the NY area in the 80's and he always rocked the house!
I was so naive in 1979. I really (seriously) thought I had come across a single that had been sitting in the record store since the fifties. Mind you, the store was only a couple of years old at the time LOL. But I still love that old 45.
i went to see him when fresh fish special came out. small club in north jersey. my friend had an old link wray album that he autographed when we saw him standing at the bar.he invited us back to the dressing room, introduced us to robert.we hung out with them for a while, drinking beer talking music.two of the nicest guys i've ever met in the biz.ran into robert about a year later at the ritz in nyc and it was like meeting up with an old friend.great guy.
I started out singing as an Elvis sound alike in 1979 and ran across this guy's records at the record shop and bought all his albums. I wanted to be like this cat but with Elvis vocals. I never could get a band to play this kind of stuff for me. I look at him today and wonder what the hell happened that he did not become bigger than the stray cats. My friends don't know who he is today but love his music. Because I play it
I've asked around about that same thing some years ago and my friends in NYC said he went the path of alcoholism and destructive lifestyle. I'm going to google around and see if he's even still alive. Hope so, and hope he's found some peace in his life.
Saw him in concert last night. Irving Plaza, NYC. Free show. His voice is still strong. The man is 72 years old, and he looks like you wouldn’t want to get into a fight with him. Hopefully I’ll get to see him live again.
I wasworking in a disco in New Zealand/Aotearoa and this came on the clubs video screens. The owner bought it back from the U.S.. and it had just been released. It probably never played on NZ/A TV. It was a dream come true. When you discover you are not alone.
In the late 70’s and early eighties Robert Gordon was singing his ass off anywhere they would let him! Hung around the Jersey shore a lot! Good Times!!
i don't know that i've ever said a cover is better than an original which i"ve loved for decades but this is that time. Beautifully arranged and delivered.
Have to agree with pammy poo on this. Best version, excellent strong vocal I love the Conway original with his sultry deep voice, but have to say Robert nailed it!
I saw him in concert in Asbury Park NJ. Bruce Springsteen did a walk on. The year??? 1976 -77? What a voice! My " younger" brother still has the album.
Never heard him sing until a couple of months ago. since, I've listened to versions by Conway (love it) Glen Cambell (very good) Ronni Rae Rivers (nice) the Hollies (dreadful)..and I like this one best.
Never did make it to see him. RIP RG
Simply brilliant song from Robert. This is even better than original.
Underrated....Robert Gordon with his wonderful voice and range, should have been selling millions of hits. One of the best.
He was the right artist entering the scene at the wrong time. The rockabilly craze of the late 70s to mid 80s died out WAY too fast. It's a shame, because this guy was amazing.
my best bro who passed 2 months ago turned me on to him in 1980. love ya dallas.
= R.I.P = Mr. Gordon & Thxx 4 your great music ♫♪¶
RIP to an unsung artist.
RIP Robert Gordon. Great version
On the Bright side just imagine the DUET BOB AND ELVIS CAN DO NOW!!!! TALK ABOUT HEAVEN!
RIP Robert - You were the King 👑
RIP Mr. GORDON !
I always thought he had a lot of guts to take on the 50s persona during the 1980s, I guess he proved that good music is timeless.
I saw him in Boston at a dive called The Channel. He was great.
X
Robert Gordon is extremley underated. If he would have started in the late 50's he would have been huge
This guy exhibits more talent in this one song than a lot of musicians do in an entire career. And that includes a lot of the ones that I like.
Goodby Bob! Love you and your art ! My fav singer!
Before this, I had never heard of this guy. WOW can he sing!
Yes check it out, he makes all kinds of great stuff
The Boy had HUGE PIPES! REAL TALENT!
Robert Gordon right up there with Elvis and all the greats .Remember they only made one Robert Gordon !
Wow. After listening to almost every version of this song this guy is amazing. Should have been a household name. Love it ♥
I love the way he sings this song. He has been my favorite artist since 1977!
My Favorite singer since I first heard him and Link in 77 as well ! Pipes!!!!! And the greatest hair ever!
Mr. Gordon, THE VOICE!, is one of the very few artists who sound EVEN BETTER live than on record. I have had the great pleasure to see him twice on stage. He sends shivers down my spine like no one else... Have loved him since early 80's.
yeah...he was the man!
Well said, shivers and all. WAY BETTER LIVE!
I saw him tonight in Flemington NJ. He still has a great voice!
Easily one of the best rock covers of all time. Robert has the heart, talent and passion to pull it off. I first saw Robert w/Chris Spedding at the Cleveland Agora in the late 70's. I played this often at the end of the night during my 6 year run as DJ at the Tropical Pub in Belmar, NJ 1984-1989. JAY STONE
Rarely do songs change owners, this one I believe now belongs to Robert Gordon.
You're an absolute fuckin fool
Agree.....
it ain't bad....but NO THING & NOBODY can touch Conway on this ....
I have this on vinyl. For some reason I couldn't remember his name last night and kept thinking it was Dwight Twilley. I own some albums I only bought because I thought they would be impossible to find in the future and on some of them I'm probably right.
His rendition was quite good but the song belongs to Conway Twitty and always will

Ann D.H. Listened to him in the days of Hitzville and Meadowbrook in NJ
Robert Gordon kicks butt. Conway Twitty is still in my ears growing up, but this rocks!
Larry
The last time I seen Robert was at Trude Heller's, I feel so old, but so honored!
I saw Robert Gordon on tour right around this time (early 1979). The gig was in a cafeteria on the campus of UMass-Amherst on a weekend afternoon and was lightly attended. He did this number along with many others and it was great.
The best voice in Rock 'n Roll.... Thanks for posting this!
RIP 🙏 💔
Saw him live in Toronto right after this album came out -- You just can't beat the way he sounded then
Robert Gordon rules, he's one of the best singers that never made it really big.I used to go watch him around the NY area in the 80's and he always rocked the house!

he is voice-man...
I've asked around about that same thing some years ago and my friends in NYC said he went the path of alcoholism and destructive lifestyle. I'm going to google around and see if he's even still alive. Hope so, and hope he's found some peace in his life.

Damn what a voice
Hard to believe how good this is. He got rid of the chorus ba-ba-ba-ba...and trumpet solo is perfect. Best version of this song.
No but yes great. But Conway twitty, the original is the best. So I guess they share 1st place.
Best version ever!! I remember this at the high school dance the year it came out. What a voice!! 👍
Wow, great voice !
Great voice ! So easily sung. Gordon can say he's a singer.
Robert, no one sings this like you do! Your voice is pure magic. xo
absolutely the best version of this song
Robert did a wonderful job with this song...
I wasworking in a disco in New Zealand/Aotearoa and this came on the clubs video screens. The owner bought it back from the U.S.. and it had just been released. It probably never played on NZ/A TV.
It was a dream come true.
When you discover you are not alone.
Woohoo! Love at first hear … This is the best version I’ve heard so far.
JUST A GREAT AWESOME VERSION OF A GREAT CONWAY TWITTY CLASSIC ...................
Underrated is an understatement !!!
I saw him at the Roxy in the late seventies, what a great performance.
Love that trumpet solo.
In the late 70’s and early eighties Robert Gordon was singing his ass off anywhere they would let him! Hung around the Jersey shore a lot! Good Times!!
Saw Robert several times at Jersey shore clubs. This always brought down the house. Superb.
i never thought i would like any version of this song but conway twitty but this is it.
Just listened to all of the versions on RUclips. This is best, and I don't even recall robert Gordon...
i don't know that i've ever said a cover is better than an original which i"ve loved for decades but this is that time. Beautifully arranged and delivered.
Great song. The man is still one great rock and roll singer.
Impresionante... Que voz... Piel de gallina 😍
Excellent remake of a classic song.
Robert still has an amazing voice and really captures emotion
Spec-freakin'-tacular.
Have to agree with pammy poo on this. Best version, excellent strong vocal I love the Conway original with his sultry deep voice, but have to say Robert nailed it!
