Love your videos. I bought all the equipment and I’ve been rebuilding clubs as a hobby for the past 8 mos. I’be been watching you, the TXG guys and Ryan Barath among others and have learned a ton...thanks. I cut my driver shaft from 45.75 in to 44.5 in and switched from an 9.5* M4 to a Sim 10.5* head. Picked up 15 consistent yards and I’m definitely finding the middle of the club face more often. My swingweight is down to C-5.9...my irons at at D-2, wedges at D-5 and my hybrid and 3 wood are at D-4? I’ve tested with lead tape in the driver and hit it great at about D-2. What I’m wondering is the best way to add the weight back. Should I do it all with hotmelt or should I take the sleeve off and add a tip weight and then round it out with hotmelt. My concern is once I add the hotmelt, I can’t change it back or adjust it like I could by changing til weights, etc. Thoughts?
John Buben great to hear you’re experimenting. We always use hot melt, obviously you can test first with lead then do your thing on the hot melt. PRO TIP : always measure half a trigger squeeze on electronic scales first, then you know how much you’re getting with each half pull. Good luck 👍🏻
Swingweight question in the SIM2. I have a hzrdus smoke rdx butt trimmed 1/2in. I use a midsize grip which I believe is 6.5 grams heavier than stock standard grip. If my calculations are correct, that’s about 4 swing weight points I’ve taken away. Hypothetically, if I swapped the 16g rear weight in my SIM2 with a 24g weight (from SIM2 MAX) would that be successful in bringing my swingweight back to stock? Also, what are your thoughts on how that would change the spin, launch, forgiveness? Your guess without seeing my hit it or number...very much appreciated!

Going from a standard grip to a midsize does this actually change swing weight or just 'fool' the scale to giving a lighter reading given the grip is in the hands? Hey Mark. I do look back on comments & yes a midsize on your current clubs will make the balance point lighter. Ideal world you should switch like for like or make the head weights heavier with lead or an adjustment. Personally I’d ask why are you going to Mids ? Then at least play them for a week before deciding if you’re committed to the change & weigh the clubs before n after. Dependent on your personal feel I think you could handle 1 sw point but beyond that could be detrimental to the feel and the way the clubs play. SW’s are so important to a club , good work for not sleeping on this one.

I've fallen down the rabbit hole trying to read about and understand swing weight with changing/adding grip weight. But no one has explained the 'tricking' the scale bit? It seems to be a polarising topic online the whole go midsize and add weight or not add weight and the value you get. I don't own a swing weight scale so can only do a balance fulcrum test and use an online calculator to get a swing weight value. Which is fine for roughly comparing irons of the same set. So a quick test of a 7 iron with a standard grip and marking the shaft at the balance point and using the calculator to get a value of 'X'. Then re testing that 7 iron with a mid size grip and adding weight to the head I can recreate the same swing weight 'X' on the calculator but if I mark the shaft at that balance point also its way further up the shaft. So is this the 'Trick'? That the swing weight calculator or scale says it's back to the same swing weight 'X' you started at but you have Actually moved the balance point?
I experimented with a Grafalloy Bi-Matrix X flex shaft in 2016 M1 head, full length uncut playing around 47.5", for a couple years now. Finally got around to getting swing weight measured and it came in at E8! I knew it played heavy, but I didn't mind because I hit it so well. Is E8 completely ridiculous? Just wondering if playing a driver (and 3w too, now) with such heavy swing weights opens me up to other feel pitfalls in the rest of the bag, or just what your general thoughts are on it. Good question and I like that you're experimenting. My only major concern is how you go from a driver swing to say a mid iron assuming your irons swing at D5 (which is still heavy). How are you going to make that transition? I'd push you to make the gap less in terms of weights between the clubs, do that and you might be onto something

Mitsubishi make heavier graphites now I believe? I’d go thicker grips & get your swing weights where you want them. The thicker grips will help the arthritis & allow you for more head weight to get the correct SW

I believe they change the length right? So if that’s the case you’re gonna add to the swing weight. All depends how big the sensor is and what it weighs....

I have a question I’d love someone to answer if possible. I’m looking at getting a set of P770’s but there’s nowhere near me that has fitting facilities so I always buy ‘off the rack’. My current irons have a KBS Tour 90 reg shaft and swing weight is D2. According to the taylormade website the standard shaft is a KBS Tour 120 stiff but swing weight is still D2. If I got for them with that shaft or even a project x LZ at 120 would swing weight remain D2 and still ‘feel’ the same as my current irons? Thanks
Yes because swing weight is balance point. The physical weights in the head might be different but the balance would be the same across the different shafts, therefore the balance & feel in that sense would be the same. Needless to say the shafts themselves would produce a different feel ⛳️
Wouldn’t adding weight to the Grip section make the swing weight even lighter ? He should remove weight from the but to balance it, not the other way around right ?

Great stuff and good question, you're not wrong to have a heavier wedge shaft but you want to check the balance points. Swing Weight is the balance point and you're going to want more head weight in your wedges v your set, it's all about feeling the club head when it comes to the scoring clubs.

yea I'd be weighing them first and then adding weight potentially. All depends what my starting weight was

If you take 1/2 inch off the butt and go mid grip or a couple of extra wraps will that balance out..
Depends on the midsize grip type but it’s gonna be close you’d have to think, obviously best to use a swing weight gauge throughout the process
