I've recently been shooting a day to night timelapse with my Panasonic GH5 and while doing that I thought why not cover another angle with a timelapse from the GoPro Hero 7 Black and see how it works out.
To my surprise, it was actually very good. The problem with most cameras when you shoot time-lapses is that you get flicker in your footage when you use auto-exposure settings like you have to do when shooting day to night time lapses. But not on the GoPro Hero 7. My GoPro Hero 7 time-lapse didn't flicker at all and I set it to full auto.
So in this video, I tell you how I set everything up so that you can also get great time-lapses with your GoPro Hero 7 camera.

Thanks for your video man ! good luck !
Thank you very much. Going to try this.
great video !!
Thanks for you help, I m going to use the night time lapse option for my videos on my channel, i m new in timelapse with my gopro 7 , so yes i follow your advices!🙂
Glad I could help!
Pemandangannya bagus means the view so beautiful
I recently just did my first Time lapse video on a drive to Niagara Falls
Awesome video man! Does the hero 10 take better nightlapses than the hero 7 in your opinion? (A noticeable difference?)
Great video!!!
Thank you!!
Curious why you need a 15 second interval between photos, the way I understand it the interval is from when the shutter closes to when the shutter opens again for the next image, not from shutter-open to shutter-open. So you can choose auto or shorter interval, leaving a 15 second interval between photos is going to greatly reduce the number of photos in the timelapse.
I tried this last night, with shutter speed set to 30 seconds and interval set to auto, I notice that my options (GP7B) are just auto and one minute intervals. With Auto I got 374 images in 3 hours, 17 minutes, which works out to an image every 31.6 seconds, so my interval was roughly around 1.5 seconds.
Thanks boss
Thank you for your video. I just bought a go pro hero7 and i am a beginner in filming. I shot some videos at night and i got some really bad footage on gopro7 black and on xioami fimi x8 se drone. on go pro the main problem seems to be distorted light, too much light. what can i do to get rid of this problem?
For low light small sensor cameras like the GoPro are not good. Just get a full frame, APS-C or st least a Micro Four Thirds Camera.
Thank for another awesome video Pascal. I have a hero7 Black and upon tapping on the bottom left time lapse logo it goes to a blank screen. I can't get the time lapse options to show up. Any thoughts to why? Thanks again, appreciate ya. 👍😊
Write the support. Seems like an issue with the unit.
Thanks for making your video but teach for total beginners so we can understand have a good day
Did you use an external battery to keep the gopro battery from draining before time lapse was complete? And, any advice for importing & editing a gopro time lapse on an ipad pro using luma fusion? Thanks!
No external battery used. The GoPro doesn’t drain the battery so much in timelapse mode.
When you shoot raw photos like I do I don’t think LumaFusion alone is a good option. Better look for some photo apps that can open the gopro raws and batch convert them. Not sure if that exists for iPad
@@pascalbasel Is it possible to plug an external battery into the USB port to shoot a 10 hour long time lapse?
Question when I’m in timelapse will the gopro still record if it’s plugged in charging? For an example if I want to do a timelapse for 2 days
Yes, it does
@@pascalbasel Excellent - my question was same and is answered
I have 7 black, but can't find time lapse video. Only 3 options, time warp, time lapse photo and time lapse night?
Hi Pascal,
After watching your video I guess the purpose of using Adobe DNG Converter is to convert the raw pictures out of the GoPro to .dng files what Final Cut can work with. I have an Osmo Pocket and it records .jpg files directly during timelapse/motionlapse. Do I understand correctly that in this case I don't need to use Adobe DNG Converter? I just simply put the .jpg pictures to the timeline. Is there any other advantage of using Adobe DNG Converter? Thanks.
jpg files don’t need Adobe DNG. Hope DJI will raw images in the future.
@@pascalbasel At least it is better than the 1080p 30 fps video what comes out of the box in case of time and motion lapses. You can match them with other footages recorded in 4k.
Your kool!
How long does the Gopro 7 run on battery while shooting timelapse? Does it heat up less than when recording movies in the same resolution? Doesn't turn off overheating at timelapses?
In timelapse it runs multiple hours as it just takes single photos and turns the screen off automatically. It doesn't overheat in timelapses, can get hot when shooting normal videos but never overheated in my case.
@@pascalbasel And the 4k 60fps video recording will work as long as the battery lasts or it will turn off sooner due to overheating? I mean a new battery
I tried not in night mode but in normal timelapse mode, and the result Il quickly good, but, I check on computer with zoom on my pictures and the quality is very bad. And only 2mo by picture, and also the aperture doesn't change (always 2.8), only the iso has changed.
Maybe I have to do another test...
Use Nightlapse mode
👍👍
How do you download timelapses from Hero 7 Black to your GoPro app? I can download photos and videos but timelapses don’t download for some reason?
I use the sd card with sd card reader.
which type of mic use in gopro hero 7 for blogging
Internal mic. Just go out of the wind and add some base in post.
wow kamu ambil video ini di Bali, salam dari Indonesia. Kamu juga ramah ke orang Indonesia
Did you experience any jumping photos within your timelapse recordings. Even when I have my GoPro on a tripod indoors I get vertical movements in my pictures... Does anyone have the same issues?
No, never.
@@pascalbasel Thx for your answer. Then I guess it must be a hardware issue ...
What is the longest time this product can shoot with the time lapse feature?
Until the battery/power bank is empty
If I wanna do a time lapse for the process of a tattoo, what should my settings be?
Same as always, keep the shutter low
@@pascalbasel thank you!
you need new screen protection :))
Yes, absolutely. But at least the screen is okay.
Welcome to indonesia
🙏
I got a hero 7 silver. And I’m Really disappointed by the lack of options in time lapse. If I would have known that I would have sprung the extra 100 for the hero 8
The silver sucks, always get black.
What and where is the record button ⏺.. all this other stuff your talking about .. I have no idea what your saying
The you must learn a bit more about the camera ;-)
All i wanted to do was time lapse from my iPhone not having to get my laptop in this too 🤦♂️
Yeah phones have limits.
Ok I got totally lost once you started getting all techno talk and crazy numbers beginners with the camera like me don't get all the techno numbers and stuff
Oof
Hehehr my battery cant handle this sh%@%@
Then you do something wrong.
Absolute Rubbish, especially for the amount it costs!!
Atrocious battery life, battery charging problems, battery self discharge (From 96% to 16% Over-Night), camera freezes and the editing App. (Quik), although GREAT WHEN IT WORKS, just keeps closing as soon as you try to start a new project...
NOT 'FIT FOR PURPOSE' & BEING RETURNED FOR A FULL REFUND!!
.....OVERPRICED POOR PRODUCT LIVING ON HYPE!!
Can’t agree. Mine works fine.
