Good to know stuff here. One thing I noticed in the driving section... In Time lapse Mode (3:20) - the camera keeps the foreground (the hood of the car) rock steady, which makes the scenery appear just a little more shakey. Conversely - in the Time Warp Mode at 3:45 - the camera keeps the horizon steady, but the car's hood moves around much more than Time Lapse. So it's good to know what you want to remain stable - the subject or the background - and then choose accordingly. Thanks for the demo!
I have got the Hero 9 Black for Christmas. I have no idea how it works and being a very old guy (70) might take me a while! But the bike rides in 4k have been good, just have to get used to the way it operates. This video has explained the Time and Hyper modes well enough for me to go take a try. Cheers buddy. (edited cos my spelling was buggered!)
I agree, I think it's awesome you are spending time to learn all of this instead of just throwing your arms up at it. My grandfather is 84 and is in the few that is actually quite great with technology with the occasional need for help with his desktop but uses a cell phone digital camera, ipad etc. I love hearing others in the age category where most dont bother to learn any of this with new technology ❤
Here’s what I think might be a tip: use your smart phone to set up the camera for a shoot. I’ve got 60yo eyes and it’s a lot easier to work the camera with my phone than to see and push those tiny buttons.
Up'd the game plan, 78 this year, been using Hero 8 since it came out, and still learning, but use the kiss method (keep it simple stupid) on all my toys, GoPro, Mav 2 Drone, 2021 Radrover 5, Giant Hybrid Bike and most recently 2022 Kawasaki Mule. And when my head is spinning full of info, slow it down with a shot of whiskey. Life is great.....
Wow, I had no idea that there’s a difference between the two. Time warp looks so much smoother, gonna switch to it for my travel videos. Thanks for putting this together!
@Air Photography Nice tips, thx But for 2:15 : I am realy confused how the Gopro wants to know how long i want to capture and set the right Speed (Speed=Interval in TimeWarp?) So there is a big difference betwen a 10 min laps an a 8 hour laps?? Therefore i do not want to end up with a 10min capture as an 0.5s Video (to short) - or an 8h capture with a 2h Video (to long)
you all probably dont care at all but does anyone know of a trick to get back into an instagram account?? I somehow lost the account password. I would appreciate any tricks you can offer me!
@Blaze Taylor I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im trying it out now. Takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Dude, your videos are some of the best I've seen on youtube! Besides the excellent subject matter, you waste absolutely 0 time! Every second is something useful. And your content, like the simultaneous side-by-side, is exactly what people want to see in a video like this. You should do a "how to make a youtube video" series!
Thank you very much it’s always nice to hear when somebody enjoys my video. I have had a lot of questions and people mentioning similar video ideas that is something I may look into
Thanks, I just got a go pro last week and tested out timewarp today. Now I know why my video didn't catch the audio when I hit the normal speed button (it was half speed) this helped a bunch. Looking forward to learning more gopro tricks from your channel.
Air Photography THANK YOU so much for showing us and explaining the difference to us between time warp and timelapse. That's EXACTLY what I need to know. NOw I know.. thanks to you. I can see Timewarp is my preferred choice.
So, I've tried both Time Warp and Time Lapse while driving using my GoPro 9, and ultimately I end up using Time Lapse for two main reasons. (1) The field of view in Time Lapse is wider. It allows me to capture more while driving, and if I need it to be more stabilized, I can use a warp stabilizer in post. I have a really stiff suspension no my car and it still has yet to be an issue. (2) This is really the main reason...the Time Warp has a tendency to shift it's FOV and "lean" left or right to follow the curve on a road. While it's not a big deal to some, it REALLY looks strange to me when coming to a stop after an off-ramp and watch the video slide left or right until it's recentered. The car isn't moving, but the video's frame is. Once seen, it cannot be unseen. Great vids, great channel! Keep up the great content!
So, i think for driving, walking, biking, the best option its time warp... its more stable... but what do you say about sunset, sunrise or clouds?? When you dont need to move the camera, which option its better? Timelapse or timewarp?
Thank you so much for this informative video I myself just bought a GoPro have never used one before but I wanted to record while driving and you helped me out. Thank you sir you gained a new subscriber
Hey thank you so much for this video! Super useful information, especially for us when recording our adventures! We will be driving to the south of Spain from the UK soon and we will timewarp parts of that!!🎉
Pretty useful info. I'm shooting a timelapse tonight to get those night clouds through the horizon. With the right settings GoPro produce real good results.
We just got over a crazy ice storm and I’m excited to use my new GoPro to walk through our property. Thanks for the info - now I just need a new computer or iPad Pro to process.
Great video, Thankyou. I have a GoPro hero 8 and want to video my mechanic putting my motorbike engine back together. It should take about 8 hours. What interval should i set the camera on. I will probably use the video mode as i edit in Imovie. ken
Great Video. I used to find both confusing but I believe that best way to distinguish them both is in the use. For Timlapse, I have my camera mounted on a tripod and I take static shots of the moving clouds or sunrise or sunset or the waves or movements but the key is that the Camera is mounted on a tripod. For time warp, I'm holding the camera with my hand while I walk down the street or park or mounted in your car while driving. So time-lapse for static shots of the clouds or sunsets and timewarp for movements while walking, or hiking etc.
Great compare/contrast! 👍 Another reason for Time-Lapse Photo over Video mode is when attempting to capture lightning. I have collected thousands of individual pics and can quickly glean through them by the flashes, reducing the pics to maybe 1 or 2 dozen in a few minutes.
Basically you better use timewarp when the camera is gonna be on the move, could be a motorcycle, car, bicycle, etc. and timelapse when you want to record a sunset and the camera will be steady.

I personally noticed (and also in your video) that the Hero8 timewarp's stabilization moved the image in really strange ways when driving (4:05 pointing more left than straight, 4:15 swaying, and just generally making the car look like it's bouncing around the whole time which is more distracting than normal timelapse). Also, the Hero8 video nightlapse gives me artifacts sometimes - I'm still trying to figure out what causes this. Lastly, it seems that 100Mbit for videolapse is a new feature for the Hero9 as my Hero8 does not have it!
Thank you very much for these helpful and informative videos🙏🤗 I just got my hero 9 and I have to say it's a bit confusing how to toggle btw time warp, video, time lapse and normal photos. Gopro doesn't add any user manual.
Any suggestions or tweaks regarding a time lapse of a construction of a community house in Stockholm, Sweden (Nordic sun, light and sky differs from, let’s say the same project at the equator) during the course of now (well, a day from now) through end of May? I want to end up with about a minute video, so I’m thinking a picture every 5 minute would suffice. But the rest of the settings? Thoughts or ideas? Will it all fit in a 512 GB card using raw format, since you get a jpg as well?
@@TRNQUL I had/have the 7 black but that mic adapter thing was frustrating when trying to do a helmet mount. Ended up adding the 9 black and waiting to get the media mod. Loving it so far - except the touchscreen issues that remain - to a lesser degree - after the last update.

I’m will be traveling on my boat for the next 9 months and would like to shoot a Timelapse of each day of the journey. I’ll average about 7 hours of travel each day for about 200 days. I don’t want the Timelapse to be so long that it won’t be enjoyable to watch. I’m wondering if it would be best to shoot in Timelapse or Time Warp mode and what settings you recommended. I have a Hero 10 Black.
@@AirPhotography I need help! Hi, I'm new to GoPro and just got the Hero 9 Black and the Max Lens. The Max Lens comes in that black silicone holder. Dear sir, can you tell me how to transfer the video from the gòpro 9 to the 4K TV, I used a memory card and there is no benefit, as well as a data cable, and the same thing. I hope you will give me your information.. Greetings
Hi, thanks for the video. I have questions: The timewarp you made doesn't have motion blur, does it? Because using the auto shutter speed in daylight likely cause Gopro using very high shutter speed. Should one use ND filter before doing time warp to get the motion blur?
Only thing I don't like about the time warp is that weird horizon effect it does sometimes. For instance, your driving and reach a stop light and the image moves around.
how does the timewarp work, if i had to guess, does it take several shots at each interval and chose the best one, with the least amount of camera tilt or blur or something?
How about the memory consumption in time warp? If I travel for 6hrs, can 128gb record the whole trip? Does it keep recording or overwrite the previous videos? Also is it a good idea to just plug the GoPro without a battery so I don’t worry about dying while cruising the interstate?

Hi, thanks for the video. I have questions: The timewarp you made doesn't have motion blur, does it? Because using the auto shutter speed in daylight likely cause Gopro using very high shutter speed. Should one use ND filter before doing time warp to get the motion blur?
Only thing I don't like about the time warp is that weird horizon effect it does sometimes. For instance, your driving and reach a stop light and the image moves around.
I'm getting a Hero 8, moving up from the 3. How is the battery drain in either mode..?
How long video can you record while driving and recording a time wrap or time lapse mode on one battery
Nice, Great And Useful..Thanks Dear
how does the timewarp work, if i had to guess, does it take several shots at each interval and chose the best one, with the least amount of camera tilt or blur or something?
Thanks for the video. TimeWarp is cropped but so much smoother.
How about the memory consumption in time warp? If I travel for 6hrs, can 128gb record the whole trip? Does it keep recording or overwrite the previous videos? Also is it a good idea to just plug the GoPro without a battery so I don’t worry about dying while cruising the interstate?
