Good Job, Mr. Bob. For those who own these Kohler engines those particular loose bolts you tightened on the sump cover sometimes loosen up to the point of getting caught on the flywheel. Whenever this happens the crankcase itself often gets cracked beyond repair. I would warn everyone who owns one of these engines to keep a sharp eye out for these particular sump cover bolts. By the way, Happy New Year to you.
Yes, Dem bucket motors liked to loose up those closure cover bolts like crazy! They actually discontinued the production of the courage single last year.
I Just got a free Ariens 42 inch with the Kohler 19 and need to do this myself. I Have either the check ball on the filter housing weeping oil or behind it in the gasket. I Already went thru everything else including the valve cover gasket. I Can see the reasoning behind using the blue Loctite seeing how these bolts back off over time from heat and vibration.
Agreed, purchased something 2 weeks ago for the lathe, called today- they haven't even shipped it yet ! Purchased a part off amazon- it showed up in 2 days
I have used a short piece of pvc with a piece of wood on top to hammer/press in seals and bearings. Pvc is like duct tape; multiple uses beyond what it was made for. Also, like you, I didn't use silicon around the crankcase gasket during a recent job. Some say use it, some not. But it is sealing just fine after many months.
Good video Bob. It should really help people that have to do this kind of repair on a kohler or other brands of engines as well as it would very similar on other Brands. God Bless wishing you a prosperous 2018!!!
Good job. My Husq yth20k46 seems to be leaking from the very bottom, where the shaft comes out. Any suggestions or tips about how to go about fixing? Thanks.
Could have used pvc pipe to install plus making sure you don't knock it in to far and cover the oil return hole I did mine from underneath drilled a small hole inserted screw yank out
You had to wait on that gasket a week, but Ive had a choke lever stuck in hutchins texas for over a week. Thats all thats holding me up from getting the chainsaw put back together is the stupid choke lever. No one knows where it is and I just ordered another. If the other one ever shows up, Ill send it back. Ereplacement parts sucks!
doublewide6 Repairs LLC You're welcome Bob. Your best bet to find a bag for the 2 stroke Toro would probably be eBay. Might be kinda pricey though...unless you get lucky.
wow should check the bolts on mine no oil any where but never no .. mine is zero turn 23 hp going on 9 years now .. thanks for the vid .. have a good day .. †

I’m very curious what you would charge to do this not the valve cover though just this video?

jj parody exactly correct and cheap.
Good idea I have used it in the past, but I couldn't find a piece laying around that day.
Where is the video part one?
Where did you buy your Bruce Pender blue jacket from ?
I use a snapon electric ingraver to mark a lot of stuff
And it doesn’t wipe or wash off

Thanks so much Nash, I'm trying hard to keep up on these posts it has been a while since I have been going through my comments.
Did I miss the valve cover gasket change? I watched both videos and didn’t see you do it.
Yeah, I noticed that too. He made the valve cover look new but did not clean the plate under the flywheel. My OCD would be screaming.......
There's a 3rd vid
Good job.

Use Amazon 2 days with Prime they have just about everything I'm tired of waiting more than 3 days for parts.

That was a great fix. You had to tear it down all the way!!!!
Big job, I really don't do jobs bigger than that for customers. If it is my stuff most the time I will put in the effort.
