This is sad and pathetic PC propaganda here. Seriously, hiring for diversity instead of merit. Microaggressions? This is proof that this is one of the softest generations.

poor things, I guess grown man do need a safe space to study, at 20-30 years old they need to be protected.
I´ve known white kids (and other different backgrounds, Africa, south america, name it) at the age of 13 who work the whole summer just to help pay their own school supplies, putting up with abusive bosses and dangerous old men.
But a grown up guy (who happens to be black) needs a professor that is nice to him so he can have good grades.
Honestly, this is the most pathetic shit I have come across on youtube. To know 13 year old girls ( both black and white colored, from all backgrounds really) who could teach these grow man with beards what it means to be an adult, WOW what a time to be alive.
I wish you good luck, who knows those children might come across your path some day, and oh boy do they have strong arms and a sharp tongue. God bless the opressed

I think colleges are doing a fine job making the campus a safe and welcoming environment for black students. It isn't the fault of the faculty some students are dumb. That is what those students are there for, to learn shit. They learn coursework in class and social skills outside of class. Some of your fellow students will be ignorant or sheltered in some way. You want that to change? Befriend them, talk to them, hang out with them.
I don't see anything wrong with an awareness movement (rallies, hashtags, whatever), but making demands of the college when they can't really help you here is kind of pointless. More black faculty isn't really going to solve anything when it comes to naive students entering college and experiencing diversity for the first time.

I don't like the reaction of some BLM protesters, but I know they have their reasons. Still, it might be better to not protest in libraries and yell at teachers (see Yale) or compare your situation with the one of the victims in France. Bad apples, I know... But you can't afford bad apples in your situation.

I understand why black students think having more black faculty working at their university will help them, but if the reason there aren't many black faculty members is because the school is discriminating against that person based on the color of their skin, then obviously that should not be happening, but if the reason for low numbers of black faculty members is because there aren't many qualified black people applying for the jobs, then that's a different story. When you're paying to go to college all students, regardless of color, should have qualified professors teaching classes and professor shouldn't be hired based on their skin color, only on their qualifications.

I'm pretty sure there's not many black people in college wanting to be professors because most likely we want to ascend from our humble beginnings, not make $40K a year to teach. It's a commendable profession but not very successful especially starting off. I also dropped out, it had a lot more to do with coming from a urban public school that cared absolutely nothing about making sure I was prepared for college than racism.

The median age of professors is 55 and it has been 50 years since the civil rights act - since black students have had restricted access to university since 1950/60/+ - I doubt there are even many black professors out there to even fill these positions demanded. Statistically you would expect the number of black professors to rise as the intake of black students rise would haven risen 55 years ago.

Many of these demands are perfectly reasonable, and the racism stories outrageous, but some have big problems, especially the demand for people of colour in administration and mental health *specifically* to deal with students of colour.
If you have PoC just to deal with PoC, that becomes in practice a de facto segregated administration, and if you have segregated admin., why not have only PoC teachers teach PoC students for "maximum sensitivity"? And if admin. and classes are segregated, why not universities and community colleges in general?
It's racial history going in reverse, and it's black student leaders and wet white liberals leading the charge.
Also, the demand for black professors is reasonable, but at the same time also irrational given the circumstances; if the professorial candidates don't exist then *they don't exist*. The only way to quickly get as many black professors as possible would be to fast track PhD candidates and maybe even MA students into junior professorships, which in both the short and long term would fiercely de-grade the state of black education, and embitter thousands of white, not to mention other non-white and non-black, post-docs who already struggle harshly to get professorial positions.

Diversity training? This is for ALL students, right?? It recognizes that people are different from each other??? And different people hold different opinions???? And it does NOT squash curiosity????? Isn't this the basic college experience we get by interacting face to face - oh wait.... sorry.... communication is only done by very constrained digital means nowadays... I see the problem. Nevermind.

We'll never see an increase in Black full-time faculty on college campuses because most black people never make it to educational doctorate level education. I'm not 100% sure, but black people usually go towards a PhD. That's what needs to change. We need more people educated!

This is a decent snapshot of some issues that deserve much deeper attention. Are there anthropological studies on micro-aggressions (WTF moments)? btw, not sure the adjective "different" adequately describes the emotional effect of a micro-aggression, doesn't quite capture the negativity. To continue, how do we define and execute effective diversity training? What are the appropriate responses administration can make to combat racial harassment on campus? How do we fund, recruit, and hire a diverse faculty and support staff?

  • @twocentzzz

In the civilised world it doesn't matter what color of skin the faculty is. Noone is going to give u special rights because of your skin color. Affirmative action isn't appropriate for higher learning.

  • @theGreenKnightXXVI

I would have liked this video report to run a few more minutes so that the four issues could get some deeper attention. It's very quick, just scratches the surface, which I know is the intent, but just a little more time might jump start the critical thinking of the audience a bit more.

Why is this all about black people are they extra special or something? What about all the other racial minorities that dont have representation in post secondary institutions and the those students that are not graduating within 4 years and those students who have racial slurs thrown at them? Your not extra special your just like the rest of us. Learn to live with these problems
