Thanks for raising awareness on this topic. As a student from Iran living in the States, I can tell you my experience in a Christian boarding school in the South East Kentucky was very similar to what you mentioned here. People did pointed fingers and cussed at me but thankfully no beating!
My daughters father is from Iran. He was in the Iranian military and was trained here in the USA. He went back to Iran and knew he had a daughter here but never contacted me about her. I forgave him because he is the one that missed out on a beautiful woman that she is today and has 4 son's which means he is also missing out on 4 absolutely amazing grandson's. I wish I could tell him about them but I don't know if he is even alive, just that he was from a small village near Shiraz. He would be about 64 now. I hope he is happy.
Iranian Military man? When did he return to Iran? If it is on early 80s, it was not a good time for a US Trained soldier. I am afraid, he did not survive the revolution. If he did, at least he would have tried to contact you and your daughter.
I love Iranians, I am from Tijuana and I learn about persian culture here in Georgia, USA, I am learning Farsi and planning my very first trip to Iran 🇮🇷 I need advices please!! Dooset daram!! Persians are the most warm people and very funny 😄
This was fantastic! Great job:) Thanks for educating me! I just met an Iranian man today - we both signed up for French lessons here in Montreal, Quebec; where there are many Iranian as well. I have meet a few Iranians around town:) Great people, very welcoming:)
I'm from Saudi Arabia and I always ask myself why there is this conflict in the Middle East? What if the 1979 revolution did not happen what would it be? Why can't Saudi be liberal and open? Do you guys think Persians and Arabs (governments) will get along? Iran is rich in gas, oil, culture, tradition, music, food, education, nature, etc.... I just, wish we can get along and live beside each other in peace..
Why Saudi Arabia is killing Yemeni people? 8 years killing like drinking water actually you are the problem in Middle East and Zionism regime, YOU ARE THE PROBLEM
Michael Carranza while legislation in some countries may be anti gay, that does not mean everyone in that culture or that culture itself is necessarily anti gay. I am referring to all cultures when I say that
Nope, it's both, islamic government, and islamic cultures who are against gays. gays are killed by the government, and in small rural muslim villages, they stone them.
So, the US installed a dictator and didn't extradite him ........ What did they expect from the Iranian people , what did they think , that the Iranian people will turn around and say " oh , you made a small mistake everything is forgiven" ........

I can only speak from personal experience. I was a young woman in London & met many Iranian families who'd fled from Iran after the Shah had been deposed. They were gentle, kind, intelligent & well educated people. The professional classes. They were devastated at what they thought was a massive backward step in their country & wept for their beautiful country. They had lost so much, yet they remained optimistic. I know most either stayed in London or moved to the US. Certainly far, far nicer than the violent thugs invading Europe.
As an Iranian who lives in Canada I can relate. I travelled to Canada about two years ago, I was being told many many bad things in college. For example I’ve been called bomber, go back to your country and many worse things. I made some good friends but they still call me really bad things sometimes and it’s for jokes only and they always apologize but I still feel really really uncomfortable. WE ARE PEOPLE NOT THE GOVERNMENT.
Wow, I'm so sorry that happened to you. I'm American (California) and I began talking to an Iranian guy a while back, and I fell in love! We've been together now for 2-years and I thank God for the fact that we looked past where we were from and looked at each other instead.

@@pepper2240 I was uncertain that I could answer this question truthfully until today, monday, after I spoke to our integration lawyer.. (I know the irony in that, but that is how the US statute is written, according to my immigration lawyer.) Best of luck, truly.)

I had a coworker from 1979 to the early 1980s who was Iranian who called himself "Persian". I understood why. I was an adult during the entire hostage situation and remember it well, particularly when the hostages were finally released and came back to the USA.
As a Malaysian who speaks farsi even though I am north Indian by ethnicity visiting my boyfriend in Iran was an amazing experience. Even tho the government is f*cked, people are the nicest. Yani Irania yedune bashan!
My father was a High School teacher in 1979. One girl student whose nickname was nicknamed " Goalie " whose father was an IIAF officer doing training at McDill AFB ended up in the principal's office sobbing because some girls said some unkind things to her. She asked my dad if when he and my mother came from Cuba did people think they were Communists? The answer of course is no. He told her if anyone asks you where you are from tell them Morocco. Her father told mine how only two yrs ago people thought he was a millionaire because he was Iranian , now they think he was a terrorist. ,
Someone who was advising Khomeini must have told him attack American on American soil and they go pigwild. I remember during the hostage crisis the constant moaning of when Carter was going to take military action? and when Saddam finally sent in the Iraqi army people all over America were cheering , even college students formed Saddam Hussein fan clubs, nobody ever bothered to tell them Iraq was a Soviet client state like Cuba. I also remember my grandmother watching it all and sighing it was all like after the attack on Pear Harbor in 1941. 40 yrs have shown President Carter was right to pursue a diplomatic solution.
As an arab I really love Iranians, they have a rich culture and to this day they are still unique. I don’t agree with their government nor the arab governments, but still they’re very interesting as people and culture. I hope to visit Iran someday.
Iranians are very warm-hearted, friendly, helpful people ... To most people, it would be illogical to mix politics & Iranians perso nality/character ...
As a Romanian from the LA area (ok Orange County but I hate OC and wanna move to LA), I have a lot of Iranian friends and they are honestly a lot like us, they have a similar culture of being friendly and inviting and whenever I go to an Iranian restaurant or hookah lounge I feel just at home.

unfortunately Malaysia is actually not a Muslim country, it just happen to have a significant Muslim population as one of the 3 main races, including Chinese, Malay and Indian, and SIngapore is pretty same in this context
no thank you. The word "Muslim country" does not really have a good image so I dont think it is suitable for a multiracial country, as many who dont put their faith on Islam might not want to agree.
As a Persian American who has lived in the middle of Persian Square (a few steps from where the video was filmed) my whole life, I call myself "Persian" because I associate "Iranian" with post-revolution Iran. The culture has changed since the revolution. The culture I grew up with and relate to is Persian culture, not the "Iranian culture" of post-revolution Iran. So I'm Persian, not Iranian. But that's just me.
As Pakistanis we grow up Patronizing Persian Culture and Farsi. But we always refer to Iran as Persia. Iran after Islamic Revolution has been very different and distant towards us. Lots of Love From Pakistan.
Great video! Here in Denmark me and most of my friends usually also go by persians, but without any specific reason.. Anyways keep up the good work, & much love! :)
Iranians don't hate afghans. It's just the antipathy towards the refugees from Afghanistan who are criminal. In fact Iranians and Afghans are brothers. At least the persian speaking majority.
Steven Lee Not the same at. Mexicans are more diverse genetically with different ancestral roots. Where as Central Americans are mainly of Native American decent and culture.
Persian is a race. Some Iranians are azari, lurr, kurd, and Arab. But the majority of Iranians in Iran are Persian. Countries that end with -istan can also refer to themselves as Persians because there were all under the ancient Persia
Persian is the main ethnic group of Iran..... any iranian calling himself Persian is just stating his ethnic group not hard to understand... we have also other ethnic groups like azeris, kurds, armenians and so on..... when a iranian says he is Persian in America than he is a ethnic Persian from Iran, you have also Iranians who are ethnic armenians in L:A , they wont call themselves persian but Iranian-Armenian.
NewsOracle That depends on how you define your terms. A similar example is 'American'. When someone from the US says they're American, are they denying that, say a Colombian is (from the) American (continent)? We have Persian Persians as well as Persians in the general sense, as in coming from the geographical boundaries of what used to be the ancient Persia. It's just word games ...
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Name_of_Iran That is not true, Persian in English does not refer to the "Fars" ethnicity, the issue is Iran was called Persia by westerners until 1935 and since a lot of Iranians don't know this cause they never in the history called Iran "Persia" they confuse the term Persia with being of Fars ethnicity, unfortunately all of Iran's cultural aspects are cited as "Persian" in the west and most people are not aware that Persia is a synonym for Iran
forever0042000 I care about ethnicity and mostly when I ask people I mean their ethnicity not the country they from - example, I know yuh are from U.S or LA but I would want to know your ethnicity Non Iranian Iranian could say, I’m Armenian from Iran . Same thing with Iranian that not originally from Iran could say I’m Iranian from Pamir. the meaning or understanding of the world “Iranian” is far beyond of just country , border , passport, citizenship.

You could maybe find your favorite Persian food there as well, Hamburg, Berlin or elsewhere. Search for it and you will see!
Roobi, my dear Persian brother. Thank you for your interest in Vietnamese culture. We are one of the oldest people in the world, like that of your beautiful Persian people. And like you, we are very independent-minded people who have to constantly struggle to maintain our freedom and independence. Others have tried to occupy our land and destroy our identity but they have all failed because our Viet culture is much stronger, older and more human than chinese or Western ones. No matter how much bigger and mightier our enemies may be, we Viets will always prevail against them. I hope that help, my Persian brother. I wish to enjoy a delicious lamb Polo dish with you along with a refreshing glass of dooug. Shalaam. :-D
Iranians and Viets get along perfectly because we come from very ancient lands inhabited by very kind peoples with rich history. Thank you, Persian brothers and sisters. -- Much love and respect from Vietnam.
Being Mexican American I can feel what you mean with the sentiment that Part of America has towards its “outsiders” . And it hurts . I’m sorry for this but I must say it makes the Raza/ gente/ people stronger !
So many immigrate and make their home in Los Angeles. Torrance, my hometown, was home to the second highest population of Japanese outside of Japan. Second to Hawaii only. Growing up, my best friends was a family that immigrated from Samoa. Our favorite place to eat is this Korean BBQ place in Torrance that we grew up with. My schools were always diverse. Myself, I'm half Mexican half French. I remember when my family took a family trip to the East Coast. My mom was forced into an existential crisis when we couldn't find a single grocery store that sold tortillas in Pennsylvania. LA is the true melting pot of the US. More so than NY.
There won't be any Iranians or any other ethnicity in America had the US not pursued such an aggressive and belligerent foreign policy towards other countries. The best example I can give is that of Scandinavian countries. They never adopted any expansionist, Imperial and colonial racist, nationalist foreign policy like Britain, France and Spain- whose children are the Americans- and look how peaceful their relationship with the Middle East is.
In proportion, America has taken in more Muslim immigrants than any of your saintly Scandinavian countries who are banning Halal slaughter, head coverings, circumcisions, minarets in order to drive out and discourage Muslim immigrants from settling in these blonde haired and blue eyed paradises. So what's up with that genius?
Lol, Scandinavian xenophobia and racism is *far* worse than anything you'll encounter in the US, UK, France or Spain (not that any of these nations are saintly). Go read up Jante Law.
I belong to all the world - almost. I love Iran; my father's ancestors from there and he speaks Farsi fluently. He was born in Kuwait so he has a Kuwaiti citizenship so do I. My mother is Egyptian. Now I am divorced and dating a Canadian Chinese boy lol I love all my peeps. I am related to all the Arabs, Iranians, Asians, Egyptians, Americans, and Africans. I feel at home when I run into anyone from those areas of the world and my heart just smiles big
Kuwait doesn't give anyone citizenship doesn't matter how long or for how many generations you have been there unless you ( a female) marries a Kuwaiti citizen who is mostly only indigenous residents.

Growing up in the Los Angeles area, with so many Persian/Iranian friends, there didn't seem to be anything "other" about them. Great video in pointing out the discrimination my friends' families faced and I wasn't even aware of.
Thank you for the good video, it's nice to see the other side of the story. I live in Iran and i never though that people who went to the U.S felt this way.
Iranians produced the most greathearted, genius, gentle, manful with profound morality and manners.....My hats off to beloved Ahmedinejad ......Never ever the world will see a leader like him, I very much enjoyed all his interviews with the western media’s...... There was always so much hate, racism, division, and social separation in our country and the political chaos we've been seeing the past couple years is only a result of the combination of our historical failures. I remember growing up in the 80's how my own fellow white Americans only ostracized me, beat me up, call me derogatory names, and just were mean separatists trying to get people criminalized for no reason other than I wasn't from their town. The failure in diversity represents the failure in the traditional European white establishment which will come to a head one day in full blown devastating civil war for we needed a genuine democracy without the unlimited lobbying and massive financial corruption instead of a big banana republic causing all the division. It's rather ironic that the immigrant nation didn't ever make a genuine attempt at diversity and inclusion for it was just about money and this selfish me me me, get out of my way, I'm better than you, I'll take you out, kind of nonsense. I've wished for a long time that there was a two way immigrant program where for each one that comes here, allow a US citizen to be hosted by their mother country to try out for citizenship. Instead of meaningful exchange programs, the Western countries just filled up with non-Westerners seeking opportunity to ensure order out of chaos nonsense. America is just about over...
Scott Bixler .....actually we have plenty of rich Iranians living VERY comfortable lives in Malibu.... Soooo yeeeah you can take your' foot out of your mouth now
Scott Bixler sorry to hear that. I am not sure where you live, but the US is very different in each region and between cities and rural. The experience of non-whites in NYC and LA will be different than in a smaller city or rural area that is predominately white, though honestly, if you are a visible minority in an enclave in the US, you can also experience racism from those who aren't white. That said, most of human history we existed in small tribes with those most like ourselves and had to be careful around other tribes, sometimes there would be conflict or murders between them. I think this has hardcoded us to by default to be untrusting and fearful of those we think aren't enough like us. I think solving this to have perfect racial harmony is complex but reducing income inequality, providing top education country-wide (in the US, the best education is for the wealthiest and some lucky poorer students who are overachievers and very smart), and finding ways to reduce the amount of hate and fear spread via right media and social media would do a lot to help (the last is tough because the racists and fear spreaders will claim censorship, but letting them spread their hate and disinformation freely has warped a lot of people's minds very quickly). I think the racial situation in Canada is better overall, though they have a historical issue with the native population, overall I think there is far less tension (though not 100% perfect of course).

What was his name, probably he died by the government or war

I'm from Saudi Arabia and I always ask myself why there is this conflict in the Middle East? What if the 1979 revolution did not happen what would it be? Why can't Saudi be liberal and open? Do you guys think Persians and Arabs (governments) will get along? Iran is rich in gas, oil, culture, tradition, music, food, education, nature, etc.... I just, wish we can get along and live beside each other in peace..

I don't understand how someone can be so hateful towards a culture. I find it hard to hate any culture because of the food, music, and art.
Yes, you see that in muslim countries against gays.

Iran after Islamic Revolution has been very different and distant towards us.

hossin maddoh why do Iranians hate Afghans?
Is Los Angeles your property? How exactly are you Native. And why are Iranians any more welcome than Nigerian, Vietnamese, Indian or Ukrainian?
Iranians don't hate afghans. It's just the antipathy towards the refugees from Afghanistan who are criminal. In fact Iranians and Afghans are brothers. At least the persian speaking majority.
Steven Lee Not the same at. Mexicans are more diverse genetically with different ancestral roots. Where as Central Americans are mainly of Native American decent and culture.

I know EXACTLY how you felt and feel today.
Persian is a race. Some Iranians are azari, lurr, kurd, and Arab. But the majority of Iranians in Iran are Persian. Countries that end with -istan can also refer to themselves as Persians because there were all under the ancient Persia
younes rahimi Persian is an ethnicity
tf u talking about💀
I agree with everything you said until ur last statement, its so ignorant and illogical my friend.
It's just word games ...
ancient Persia was called by its people Iran...
Yes not ethnic Iranian. He's In accurately stating the word Persian for ethnicity. He's saying Persian as a synonym for Iranian (inaccurely)
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Name_of_Iran
That is not true, Persian in English does not refer to the "Fars" ethnicity, the issue is Iran was called Persia by westerners until 1935 and since a lot of Iranians don't know this cause they never in the history called Iran "Persia" they confuse the term Persia with being of Fars ethnicity, unfortunately all of Iran's cultural aspects are cited as "Persian" in the west and most people are not aware that Persia is a synonym for Iran

Non Iranian Iranian could say, I’m Armenian from Iran . Same thing with Iranian that not originally from Iran could say I’m Iranian from Pamir. the meaning or understanding of the world “Iranian” is far beyond of just country , border , passport, citizenship.

True melting pot ? What are you trying to say?
There won't be any Iranians or any other ethnicity in America had the US not pursued such an aggressive and belligerent foreign policy towards other countries. The best example I can give is that of Scandinavian countries. They never adopted any expansionist, Imperial and colonial racist, nationalist foreign policy like Britain, France and Spain- whose children are the Americans- and look how peaceful their relationship with the Middle East is.
maaz amjad like Arabs, Muslims never done those things
Except during the raiding and pillaging of Europe in the Middle Ages.
So Finnish people don't exist to you?
This was very entertaining and educative. Thanks !

Soooo yeeeah you can take your' foot out of your mouth now
What ethnicity are you?
