Big Jim McBob & Billy Sol Hurok. It is cartoonish "blowed up" stuff and that's what made it funny. What makes it sad is that both John Candy & Joe Flaherty are now gone. Thank goodness part of them will live on forever from the laughs they left behind. Like their classic work from SCTV.
once when brooke shields was on the tonight show with lee van cleeve and one of the smothers brothers she fell down and said it was a prank.
Cath sounds just like Brooke Shields from "The Blue Lagoon." I love how she can make an entrance, and her dancing is superb. I've never seen anything quite like it.
A better actress, though.
Catherine O'Hara = Genius
You reckon. This is woeful. Did you really watch this crap
Everyone reckons. It's Catherine O'Hara you corn kernel. Now watch more and realize the woeful underestimating you have publicly displayed
Unfortunately...she doesn't like beets.
Love O'Hara's bad singing gags. This kills, the Whip It Brook Shields does too, and Lola's Christmas Special is sublimely funny. She IS a genius! Love seeing her and EL in Schitt's Creek now :)
I'm 59 and used to watch this show every week. It is still hilarious and so far above tons of shows from that era and today. Quite often, watching tv today,I wish this would happen for real to most of the ''celebrities'' polluting the small screen.
Polluting - that's the word! Although Brooke polluted more than her share of media back in the day.
100 times better that SNL.
I don't know how they kept a straight face with her dancing.
We were so privileged to have SCTV. Good days. 🇨🇦
I miss John Candy a lot.
Catherine O'Hara was freekin' hawt!
Total classic. Candy is greatly missed.
From the February 12, 1982, episode of _SCTV 📺 Network 90,_ of course.
…As will Joe Flaherty. RIP Big Jim!
“No, we’re not going to blow you up.” 😂
Stripes had both John and Joe in it, playing different characters, of course. When Bill Murray took over the training and did the cool parade ground performance, the general asked what happened to their drill sergeant. Bill shouted "Blowed up, sir!" Which was then echoed by the rest of the troop. Priceless, especially since John Candy was one of the recruits.
Never made that connection while watching "Stripes." Even though you posted this comment 2 years ago, I see it clearly now. Thank you for this hilarious post. Now I have to watch "Stripes" again.
They said they weren't gonna blow her up. But after that song all bets were off.
"If you weren't so fresh last night, we wouldn't be in this jam!" Oh, how I miss this show!
Yeah, real old preserve joke
I wish they would blow up most of what is on T.V....blow it up real good!
I call you farmers because who else would be up this time of the morning? Priceless line...........
Fishermen.
Bakers 🍞🍞🍞
Old people.
Love how she talks about herself in the third person. My mother said there will be no blowing up of Brooke.
A mix of pomposity and unsure, like a teenager
Love the painful look on the brothers' faces as they watch the talentless klutz (played skilfully as always by Catherine O'Hara) belt out a Rod Stewart cover. Too funny!
BR01097 ... Bob and Doug Mackenzie are brothers. Billy Sol Hurok and Big Jim McBob are not brothers, just co-hosts.
It's actually very hard to sing off-key that well! Catherine as Brooke is perfectly tone-deaf and clueless.
OMG I love SCTV. I watched this when I was in high school. LOL.
Kudos to O'Hara for being pretty enough to do such a convincing Brooke!
The impression was spot on
Yes, congratulate a pretty lady for being pretty, never mind the genius and brilliance
I used to stay up late every Saturday night to watch this show, great stuff!
Catherine O'Hara--a classic beauty and a comedy genius.
Yes!
Masterpiece of comedy by Catherine O'Hara...it comes as no surprise that she ended up being a movie star
Catherine's brilliant! And I see where the Elaine Benes dance came from.
Always good to hear John Candy's William B. Williams laugh.
I always wondered did the B stand for Bill so it'd be like major major major from Catch 22
"She blowed up good...yeah, REAL good"...Gawd I love these old SCTV skits. Wish someone would put the musical skit with Wendi O. and The Plasmatics online.
It's on here.. Saw it the other day..
I still laugh like a fool watching these, especially the Neil Sedaka one. "He blowed up reel good".
The 2nd trip was not planned. They ad-libbed that whole part really well. Talent.
I never saw that one before. It was like going back to a happier time.
that fucking song... funniest part of the whole skit.
She was doing the Elaine before Elaine did. And she blew up real good.
the brilliance of Catherine really knows no limits...
I’m actually kinda into this rendition of “Young Hearts”
Hearing "Brooke Shields" butcher Young Turks totally made my day ha ha ha ha.
Blowed up real good!
This must be the first time in recorded herstory that Brooke Shields has been mistaken for Meryl Streep.
i'm not sure what is more awesome, her horrible dancing or the song selection.."young hearts" by rod stewart..hahahaha...
It's called "Young Turks" .. and it is one of the most insipid pieces of tripe ever recorded... haha
@@DizzLexic and yet Young Turks never appears anywhere in the lyrics
@@hankkingsley2976 ya figure it'd sound Middle Eastern from the title
who thinks that catherine o'hara could have had a hit with that song
In this day and age...probably...
Blowed up real good.
seriously talented comics... sctv, still the best!
I guess it's safe to say that Rod Stewart has nothing to worry about from Brooke (Catherine)!
I had a girlfriend who was in Brooke's class in college. That's all I know about that. I don't recall hearing about any celebrity stuff - it was Princeton so they probably all had to pay attention to school work. Three of SCTV's best actors here... they all were good.
In reality, Brooke almost managed straight A's at Princeton. Her I.Q. is actually very high. But the "Blowed Up" guys were always hilarious.
Catherine nailed Brooke Shields!
On the February 12, 1982, episode of SCTV 📺 NETWORK 90, of course.
When the cheezy Rod Stewart cover started and Cathy started dancing like a Muppet cracked me up
Catherine O'Hara, Can Really Sing
Uh-oh, this may be interpreted to advocate the blowing up of B-grade celebrities. I bet the people at Homeland Security will be from this point forward tracking the communications of all of us who hit the "Like" button below this classic piece from SCTV.
I have no words😀😅😄🤪🤣😁😂😆🤓
"Oh, that's an old ... preserves joke."
Them Georgia Guidestones blew up good.....BLEW UP REAL GOOD..🤣🤣
Actually, Brooke Shields is very likable as an adult. But as a child back in the day she was overexposed and insufferable.
And she has a great sense of humor!
I don't like her as an adult
Due to the manipulation and exploitation from her mother, if I remember correctly.
@@freedapeeple4049 Bingo! I remember Rick Moranis playing Brooke Shields' mother on Second City TV. A blond wig was all it took. :)
As a millenial I was kind of surprised that people made fun of Brooke. But then again I don't have the context for it because I didn't live through that time.
After "Brooke's" first twirl on the floor, you can see Candy trying hard not to lose it...
It's the Farm Report, with Big Jim and Billy Sawchuck, with a new version of our blow up farm report, now called: "Celebrity NASA crash landing." 'May the good Lord take a liking to yah and crash you up real good.'
Note to any potential celebrity-blower-uppers: THIS is how you blow up celebrities.
There will be no blowing up of Brooke.........oh yes there will be
that horrible dancing might be the best thing about this clip lol LOVE!!!!!!! and she's still dancing like a weirdo on Schitt's Creek
Hm...that's not Meryl Streep, it's Catherine O'Hara (as Brooke Shields). ;)
Kingscrib Busted!!
Good one Einstein!
Candy's change of expression from giddy to wide-eyed is gold... @2:40
Back in the early 80's we called Brooke Shields "Brezhnev Brows"
WHY DOES THE DESCRIPTION SAY MERYL STREEP? THE TITLE IS RIGHT THERE. YOU HAD ONE JOB.
It's NOT Meryl Streep - It's Brooke Shields (and it's one of my favourites)
U.N. Owen Uh...you're right, that's not Meryl Streep, it's Catherine O'Hara as Brooke Shields. ;)
She is the best!!!!
i love Catherine o hara
I don't know why they blew her up. She sounded just like Rod Stewart.
I love this one!!!!!!!!
John Candy on SCTV clips are so funny and strange, Farm Film Report with singing Brooke Shields and his polka with Eugene Levy.
Have you seen "Gangway for Miracles" with Catherine O'Hara,,Andrea Martin, and John Candy? It's billed as Edith Prickly's first motion picture.Very funny.
Little late for a reply, but...YES. I actually saw it when it originally aired and thought I was going to die laughing. O'Hara as "Mad Dog Regan" and Martin as "Edith Prickley." Still laugh over it!
John Candy....Man....He's perfect in every different role he plays! Just sitting there next to Joe Flaherty, he plays a country hick to perfection!
Priceless 👍
That dance as Brooke is funnier than Elaine's Seinfeld dance.
You can see the few minutes of Bobby Bittman's motion picture on You Tube too.
She sings like Brittany Spears minus the auto tune.
No regrets here I seem to remember another take of this episode floating around on You Tube.
Kinda makes you wonder if this is where the Elaine dance came from
lmfao promise you wont blow me up? oh yea we promise -kaboom- she blowed up real good hahaha
This is the show Siskel and Ebert copied.
I don't know. Can't remember Siskel and Ebert blowing anybody up.
@@LordZontar It's a joke.
@@johnbrowne3950 Oh I know that. So was my answer.
@@LordZontar I know. Just checking.
"She blowed up good! She blowed up real good!"
Shouldn't this _SCTV 📺 Network 90_ skit say Catherine O’Hara as Brooke Shields instead of Meryl Streep under the description of this episode, which originally aired 💨 on the night 😴 of February 12, 1982, on NBC?
Love Catherine O'Hara. That was awesome!
Her dancing always kills me
Catherine looks like that nutty NY governor in this skit
Agree always one of my faves
Shades of the Red Green Show in there.
Was there more to this video???
They mentioned they were going to blow up THEIR OWN BAND, but then the video ended. Is there a Celeberty Farm Film Blow-Up BAND?
Ya SCTV sometimes had real bands play in their skits. It was weird way for some bands to get on tv back then. The uploader probably had to cut it off for copyright reasons.
NW Video THANKS!!!
Any chance you recall who the cast members were that comprised The Celeberty Farm Film Blowup BAND?
And what instruments they played? Also if they blowed up real good?💣💥💥💥
THANKS!🙏

Thanks for the response! 😀
I used to love it when they "blowed up" a celebrity as vapid as Brooke Shields.
BOOM!!!!
At 0:36 he can't keep character and laughs. 😂😂😂
Damm even when Brooke was NOT trying to be beautiful or sexy, she was/is still beautiful as ever!!🥰😍❤💋💋💋
why does it say Meryl Streep? that;s Brooke Shields. The one you spoke of where someone was weeping, that was Martin Short as Dustin Hoffman playing Tootsie, but that was another clip entirely.
I'd rather watch the bootleg versions. No stupid video game ads to sit through.
5 stars!!!
"we're not gonna blow you up you sing your song" but you can't really sing like that and not expect to be blown up lol
The skit even starts OUT with "BROOK SHIELDS" and it still says Meryl Streep!
Well, you know, lots of people get those two mixed up.
I have a question. When Big Jim and Billy Sol blew all those celebrities up on their show, I mean they didn't REALLY blow them up, did they? I mean, it was just special effects, right?
Catherine O'Hara as Brooke Shields
On the February 12, 1982, episode of SCTV 📺 NETWORK 90, of course, Robert.
blowed up real good! still looking 4 tootsie cbu.
That was good
Hi, I have a real question here...
So I've been on this historical comedy journey where I first became obsessed with SNL, which then led me to take a closer look at some of the greats, like Tina Fey, Dana Carvey, and Bill Hader to name just 3... And in an interview, I heard Tina and Bill mention SCTV and about how they love and respected people like Martin Short and Catherine O'Hara... But after watching some of their work, I just don't get it. Is it just going over my head? I feel like I'm missing something. So far, I've only seen a couple Jiminy Glick interviews and the Brooke Shields show. Can anyone suggest their favorite episodes to me? Maybe that will help me understand and appreciate them.
The whple premise is that SCTV is a real tv network, but of course, it's a parity of a tv network. All the skits are shows and commercials on this imaginary network. Halfwits game show, Mels rock pile dance show, The Sammy Maudlin talk show, Count Floyds 3D movie show on Saturday nights etc etc. One episode featured a Russian station (CCCP1) taking over SCTV and they did Russian versions of SCTVs parodies! Gold, Jerry, Gold!
Maybe you have to be Canadian. If you don't die laughing at Bob and Doug chances are you won't get any of it. Kids in the Hall...Trailer Park Boys...all nods to SCTV.
Dr. Tongues’ 3-D House of Pancakes !
Don't forget "House of Stewardesses"
Totally politically incorrect these days - I love it ;)
Still got the count floyed laugh..lol
