Catherine O’Hara is one of the top 5 funniest comedic actresses in the history of entertainment. She is up there with Gilda Radner, Lucille Ball and other icons of comedy. In the long tradition of 2nd city improv, O’Hara proved you have to be fearless, to do great improv comedy, and not afraid to be totally weird. :) Comedic genius, is O’Hara.
Lola with her signature voice tremble and the fact she can't get through any performance without one of her signature nervous breakdown rants is what makes her character unforgettably hilarious!
Lola was always having breakdowns or high. There was that classic episode where Guy Caballero cancelled her t.v special because she was too out of it on drugs and then she disappeared meaning she passed some where at the SCTV station and couldn't be found then rumours began she jumped off the SCTV roof because of Guy cancelling her special and committed suicide and fans mourned her loss only for Lola to reemerge later after she came to then Guy put her special back on air.
Not only do I think she's the greatest comedienne ever, I think she's one of the greatest actresses ever too........Just absolute hysterical genius....Of everyone on ensemble comedy shows, her timing, skill, and talent was always the top of Mt. Everest.
I like to think that Lola and Juul made up, got married, and she really DID bear his children. Sure, she'd be the most high maintenance wife who ever lived, but who better than the campy, glittery, Vegas-y, glamor-loving Juul Haalmeyer to know HOW to maintain her? It's a match made in Heaven. Or in Melonville.
Catherine O Hará and Andrea Martin are brilliant and the best of the best. That 1965 special boo hoo hoo, spot on. I don't know what year this is from, I guess it's the 80's iteration. Lola's maniacal laugh. The best.
What an AMAZING voice - and the vocal range? Phenomenal. She truy CAN sing ANY-thing. Juul Haalmeyer’s choreography was once looked at as ‘avant grade,’ but, I always loved his ability to swing from a stark minimalism to a rococo-ish over-the-top Vegas’y style - with a bit of 'Fosse' thrown in. True genius. And, the costumes on those dancers - it puts the ‘xy’ in 'sexy! I could’ve sworn I detected MORE than one bulge - in the dancer’s (stomachs). Her clothing designer's the legendary Bob Nackey - NOT that terrible copycat, who did stuff for Cher - what's his name....oh, yes; Bob Mackie! Can you believe the nerve of some people - so desperate to be in Lola's orbit, they'd stoop so low as that. Does anyone remember the copycat's name? The end of this spot - where Lola's singing whilst clad in the (white) fur, with a gold and partially (blood) red dress, and sings...laments, actually, her loneliness, as the years, and each Christmas has passed. That was actually a 'recreation' of a (supposed alcohol, and pill) 'breakdown' she had. She's given so much to us, and, yet, still, she wants to 'bear (OUR) children.' Truly, a giver (reminds me of a terrific special she did, where she followed other women - such as mother Theresa. The only way to tell these 2 'giving-of-themselves' women apart was Ms. Heatherton's bugle-beaded nun's habit. So tasteful, yet, so glamourous). When I was a kid, I bugged my mum to please, please; take me to Melonville for the taping of this, and she did (she’s a big fan too), and, Ms. Heatherton - bless her - she came out, and let ME carry all the gifts people were giving her backstage (she gave them away, or returned them at the stores, shhh. Said something about ‘tax write-off. What did I know?) When I was leaving, she told me to wait - she had something 'special - just for me,' she said. She ran to a closet, and gave me a a bag full of 'empty champagne, vodka, Night Train,Thunderbird and.Wild Irish Rose bottles. She told me not to let anyone else see her 'gift' to me. I recommend anyone near Melonville June ’15, to go see Ms. Heatherton - she’s going to be doing ’Miss Laura,’ the Lana Turner role in a stage (MUSICAL!) adaptation of Imitation Of Life! Bobby Bitman’s in it (He’s got the John Gavin role), can you believe the good luck? Getting these 2 titans?!?!? You best book early, though, I already got my seats - for EVERY single performance. I’m a real 'Lo-Lover,’ but, if it’s anything like the last show I saw her in - so powerful, she’d break the fourth wall (quite frequently, actually. Sometimes, well, often, she’d yell ‘line,’ and I PRAYED it wasn't for a ‘line’ of …you know; 'sniff-sniff' the ole 'Bolivian Marching Powder' which she DID overcome - MORE THAN ONCE, I might add, to those who think she's a quitter. NEVER!). I got the Lola Heatherton box set, last week - with this special as an added bonus (on BETA!!!). Her singing ‘Feelings’ gets to me. It gets to my dogs, too. They howl! It’s uncanny, but, they KNOW she’s an AWESOME singer. She out-does (mae West singing) Jim Morrison's Light My Fire - Ms. Heatherton's version goes on for 29 minutes! She added all these extra verses - which she said her ‘former lover, Jim’ had written - JUST for her 'special voice,' and, I gotta tell you, it makes my ears ‘happy.’ I can feel the ‘tears’ flowing from them (funny, though; they’re RED ‘tears…). Well, I gotta go, I ordered a pizza, and fired up the Betamax to watch Ms. Heatherton do a truly amazing performance. She plays an ACTRESS (named ‘Catherine O’Hara,’ I think), who plays a role in this film - I’ve never seen it - called..lemme look at the box… Uh, yeah; 'Home Alone.' Who ELSE but Ms. Heatherton could DO something like PLAY an actress PLAYING a character?!?!? Genius! I hope she gets nominated - finally - for a People’s Global Golden Choice Awards. I mean, the poor dear’s never won - yet. We LOVE YOU, Lola!!!
The SCTV opening graphic and music reminds me of The Big Lebowski. No matter how many times you've seen it, you always have to stop what you were doing and watch. Stay positive; test negative, fellow SCTV fans.
"Lola's Love Spirit" Her comeback TOUR LOLA HETHERTON!...SCTV rules the tv airwaves....Catherine O'Hara just very beautiful and all that talent She is an advanced Actress phenemonal...:)
That's what is sounds like to me, yes. What is the first line of the "present" song? "(Something something) you don't love me, here's your Christmas present"... Never mind, I figured it out. It's "You've admitted you don't love me..."
Catherine was and still is an absolute comedic genius! And wow she looks bloody fantastic here 😍😍😍 goals!!!
Lola is STUNNING in that platinum wig and sexy eye makeup.
Why can't I ever meet someone like her at my church socials?
For those who have never watched SCTV, yes that is Martin Short as one of the dancers. He, like the others had their moments in some great movies.
Lol! I was wondering about that. Thanks for clearing that up.
Martin was also on an episode of Love Boat.
Isn’t that obvious?
Without the genius of Catherine O’Hara we never would’ve enjoyed the magnificent Juul Haalmeyer dancers
Lola Heatherton’s and Edith Prickley’s laughs are the best.
Nice to see Juul Haalmeyer and his dancers featured so prominently!
and little Martin Short is so dreamy!
The Diana Ross sideways head jerk at 1:22 gets me every time.
Same here. I was like shes totally channeling diana ross with that side wig and mannerisms.
@@franciscobautista4279 what's the word "channeling" means?
She is comedic genius! This cast is one of THE greatest ensembles ever.
The makeup and costumes on this are beyond fantastic! They all look so great, the whole thing is so accurate!
The costumes are by Juul Haalmeyer, playing himself in the sketch.

I wouldn't put Gilda Radner in that class......
Andrea Martin is up there as well.
@@kekwayblaze3176 stephanie weir (Mad TV) absolutely kills me.
@@weirdbeard63 Yea, Gilda was way better.
She is one of the most talented people ever to come from Canada. The whole SCTV cast really has never gotten the recognition that they deserved.
Lola with her signature voice tremble and the fact she can't get through any performance without one of her signature nervous breakdown rants is what makes her character unforgettably hilarious!
I love them so much! I had the honour of meeting Juul Haalmeyer when I was working in a Malibar store in Toronto on winter!
I remember watching these campy Christmas specials when I was young(er) ish and SCTV nails it. Love ya Lola
She is just so good, it is mesmerising
her meltdown at the end is absolutely hysterical. genius.
It's really not a Lola special if there isn't some sort of meltdown. Her audience expects it.
@@m.oriley8260 Yea, she doesn't get yanked off unless she starts naming names.

The production on this bit is exceptional.
One of her greatest creations! Lola Heatherton is an ETERNAL GODDESS!

What the world needs is a “Love Spirit” CD.
Most talented group of people ever assembled together.
AGREED 100%
This is just nothing but pure excellence.
The dancer on the far right in the first clip was my father, rest his sole. hahahaha. Boy I'm hot today.
Is that true?
@@wesmantooth5908 That's actually Martin Short 🤣
Dammmm that wig is living her best life!!!!!
"I know it's going to touch you where you belong." I think I'm going to be working this into conversation.
Juul Haalmeyer whom the Juul Haalmeyer dancers were named after was the actual costume designer for SCTV and that's him in this clip.
Crying my eyes black and blue !!!
pure freaking genius.
Juul was like the fifth Beatle

Catherine looked fantastic.
Catherine looks gorgeous in that platinum wig....
helluva talent, that woman has the psycho sizzle!
Juul was always such a good sport
For some reason, out of all the gags here, "Did I hear bah-lovebug?!" is the one I can never withstand. Positively hysterical!
"Did I hear, 'Bah, lovebug'?"
I had no idea Catherine Ohara was so gorgeous in addition to being funny as hell. Someone must've enjoyed her company.
She was always a comic genius and so underrated. God Bless SCTV.m

+U.N. Owen Lola has more tremolo in her voice than a Leslie cabinet
nice treatise
The character Lola Heatherton was based on a real life celebrity Vegas singer who also did mattress ads in the 70s.
Yes, a parody of a combo of Joey Heatherton and Lola Falana.
I wonder what Lola and Joey thought of this brilliant send-up. Hope they were laughing along with us and not offended.
Lola Heatherton was always my favourite character of Catherine O'Hara on SCTV.
This show was SO F#%}ing hilarious
and Juul was the legit costume designer...that's funny stuff
"I want to bear YOUR CHILDREN!!:-Lola Heatherton
Oh thank you I haven't seen this in so many years! Jenny McCarthy looks a little like Lola!
That's Martin Short in the chorus!
Yep, protruding WAY too much as the dancer on the left. :)
Sometimes Eugene Levy.
3:46 I SOOOOO relate to LOLA!
OMG Catherine was such a babe and beyond funny!
Canadian humour...a combination of British and American with a pinch of Australian humour. Funny and interesting.
The SCTV opening graphic and music reminds me of The Big Lebowski. No matter how many times you've seen it, you always have to stop what you were doing and watch.

Lola needs to go back on Sammy Mauldin tv show. 😂
"Gonna be a frosty snow girl; I'm gonna deck your halls; Wait till I shake your tree boy; I'll break those christmas balls." 2:12
Flawless Lola fun!
i love lola's out of tune singing!! hahaha :)
I know- that second song especially. O'Hara is SO funny!
Juul's face at the end: "uh oh.."
I'm grinning from ear to ear. 5 star funny.
Lola could bear my children any day.
in this sketch I am reminded of Connie Stevens. Catherine O'Hara is such a very talented lady.
I think Lola Heatherton is a combination of Connie Stevens and Joey Heatherton, who also went through an emotional wreck in the public eye.
"Lola's Love Spirit" Her comeback TOUR LOLA HETHERTON!...SCTV rules the tv airwaves....Catherine O'Hara just very beautiful and all that talent She is an advanced Actress phenemonal...:)

LOL Lola is the greatest of all time! 4:34
That fur at 3:06!!
I don’t even know what year it is!
Best way to celebrate the holidays! XD
I always liked the Jules character
I love this !
She was brilliant
an especially special Christmas special
At 2:01….”You’ve admitted you don’t love me…here’s your Christmas Present”
I don't even know what year it is.
The font for the words "Christmas meets Lola" looks like what was used in Star Trek The Next Generation.
Merry Christmas, The Second City!!
I really love the song at 2:01! Wish I could get Lola's album.
that stunning white puff robe at the end!!
Hilarious!! Love it
Now we know where Jenny McCarthy got her inspiration from!
HAHAHAHAHAH ‼️‼️🤣🤣🤣🤣 SHES AWESOME GREAT CAST ‼️‼️💯💯
is that martin short on the left in the dancing troupe?
John Jarou yep
Martin Short is one of the dancers.
Impossible not to love these people.
Wow, I've always loved her, but watching this, it's so easy to see where Moira Rose came from!
Love Lola!
I want to be a Juul Haalmeyer dancer. Catherine O'Hara does a good Dusty Springfield!
Those quivering lips!
60's Lola had shades of Nancy Sinatra.
Catherine was actually much sexier than Joey Heatherton.
Is. She's amazing now, too!
love her
Real talent ...
GOT DAM LOLA
Forget Stilton or Parmesano Reggiano , this is the best cheese.
Look carefully at the dancer at the far left - Martin Short!
For the youngsters out there that just don't know, Lola Heatherton is a combination of Joey Heatherton and Lola Falana.
Omogod, she's so funny!
Lola is adorable when she sticks out her bottom lip!!!
One of Moira's wigs, no doubt.
1:14 Not to reveal my ignorance, but is this a "real" song ..I love it!!
Nope, it's totally fake, which makes it so genius, it's so believable!
What is the last line of the Love Spirit song? I can't make it out. "Let your body get hot and move?"
That's what is sounds like to me, yes. What is the first line of the "present" song? "(Something something) you don't love me, here's your Christmas present"... Never mind, I figured it out. It's "You've admitted you don't love me..."
