@@StamfordBridge I think Andrea Martin and Catherine O'Hara were far more talented and versatile with their impressions than any of the actresses on SNL. They truly made SCTV one of the best comedy shows of all time.
Matthew Gray I wouldn’t be so quick to dismiss the talents of, say, Gilda Radner or Kate McKinnon, but of course I agree with your praise of those two.
What can one say? The whole thing is sheer genius. From the hand-drawn sign and Candy's hair to Martin's outfit and cadence to the lighting and cinematography, this is satire in its most perfect form. I do not believe that many people today are aware of the glory years of SCTV, and its brilliance compared with much of contemporary television.
Agree 100%. The writing! Just brilliant, every word was measured and perfect. The character acting, the vocal intonation. Everything just perfection, like you say. Even the flash of light before the blow up is brilliant and perfect.
@Craig Laycox no dude. Especially. I never realized before this how well endowed she was. I always thought Catherine O'Hara was the stacked one on SCTV
Yes , I was watching the movie Club Paradise the other day , and the funniest moments are the ones with Andrea Martin in them. She really added a lot to that film .
I enjoy her more as I get older. My boyfriend loved CO'Hara cause she was blond and cute. AMartin has perfect timing, like CH is a chameleon, intelligent and wacky but unlike CH, AM can project a sensitive vulnerability (thinking of Mojo). Both are top-notch.
Andrea Martin has never left my memory, I used to watch this on my local channel when I was a kid. I always looked forward to the laughter she gave me.
The actors were fabulous Candy's and Flaherty's farm boy impressions were hilarious and Martin's impression of Bernadette Peters was also great but the writers were fantastic. So many different folks that were lampooned. The best.
Andrea’s impression of Bernadette is hilarious. The staring, the hair, the voice, the fake big bust too. Andrea is actually doing her from “The Jerk” and “Pennies from Heaven”. HA! 🤣
That was a most incredible Peters impersonation! Had I watched this from the beginning with my eyes closed, I would've thought it really was here. Well done, Andrea! SCTV was the best.
Andrea pulled off a great Bernadet Peters! The whole concept of these sketches, two farmers on tv early in the morning, blowing up Hollywood celebrity guests - genius.
Yep. That one definitely came from left field. Makes me laugh just thinking about it. If you haven't seen Andrea Martin' in the Ted & Edna Boil Organ Emporium sketches, then there are at least a couple here you should check out. Pure genius!
(One moment in time, three comedic geniuses.) I never cease to marvel at the way SCTV could take two seemingly-unrelated things (at the time, Siskel and Ebert-style movie review shows; and the kind of "farm report" shows that started out the broadcast day for a lot of local TV stations), and turn them into one high-concept comedic gem. (They did something equally clever with the promo for one of the "network's" new shows, "The Benny Hill Street Blues.") Joe Flaherty, Andrea Martin, and John Candy (RIP).
Yes. The mash-up stuff was always genius comedy. Get your hands on the SCTV Christmas Party show. Could be my mostest favoritest thing in the universe. Liberace and Elton John playing dueling Christmas Carols is inspired. And don't get me started on the Neil Simon play inside the Sammy Maudlin Show.
I don't think interview shows were ever really the same after these skits, they humorously deconstructed them so completely they could never find their way back to the more innocent days when the image and the person of the celebrity were assumed to match. Brilliant.
I do not recall The Tubes being blown up, but the group appeared on Gil Fisher's show "The Fishin' Musician, with John Candy in the role of Gil. The clips from that show can also be found on You Tube.
I think I've seen every episode of SCTV. The most cutting edge comedy on t.v. at the time, my brother and I really enjoyed this channel. Along with Monty Python of course.
This one had me in stitches because it perfectly captured how truly nauseating it was to watch Bernadette Peters in a movie. If you don't believe me, just try watching "Heartbeeps".
I'd honestly would have took Andrea Martin on a date back in the 80's. She's got a charming, bubbly persona like Joyce DeWitt (Janet) from Three's Company.
Damn, that's a dead-on impression of Peters! The voice, the hair, the spaghetti-strap gown showcasing the big boobs lol. I miss this show so much, after all of these years SCTV is still funnier than most of the junk on TV today.
Andrea Martin doesn't get enough love. Genius comedic actress.
Love. But not Bernadette. She sorta knew what she was
I'm with you!!!!!!
😂 I thought that was Bernadette Peters.
Both she and Catherine O'Hara were Amazing. I agree - Andrea is under-rated in the world of comedy.
That’s such a good Bernadette impression!
She and Catherine were flipping uncanny in their impressions - and they hardly ever seemed mean. (I know that sounds "snowflake"... What can I say?)
For a second I wondered if it was she.

Great sketch. Plus Andrea Martin and her classy uptown rack are just a bonus!
WOW! I don't recall seeing this one but that Bernadette Peter's impression was amazing! I don't think I appreciated Andrea's talent back then.
……I don’t think I appreciated Andrea’s boobs back then !😊
*Peters No apostrophe needed
Andrea Martin becomes her characters so well, you don't often get to see how hot she really was. In her 70s now, she is still hot.
SCTV impersonations are second to none.
I love the premise that the celebrities and hosts all know they're going to blow up. "Before you blow up, would you favor us with a song?" 🤣🤣

Love them actors!!!!!!!!
They got to play *so* many characters, too. The ones who got into movies got quickly pigeonholed into a single character.
Andrea Martin is so talented.
On the February 18, 1983, episode of SCTV 📺 NETWORK, of course, Daniel, in which she impersonated Bernadette Peters.
She's cute too.

Fabulous Bernadette Peters impression. Andrea Martin is so versatile. And never have I enjoyed a celebrity blow-up more.

R.i.P. Joe Flarerty (oh and John Candy).
Andrea Martin always has a sinister, dark edge to each of her impressions

Dear God! I grew up in Detroit and we'd see SCTV from Canada. Man miss all those talents!
better than SNL
I’m rewatching it all and it’s eternally funny.
Just a few hours from the 313 in 🇨🇦.
"She blowed up real good." Billy Sol Hurok's unforgettable sign off.

She did such a great job, it made me appreciate Bernadette Peters a lot, as well. (Andrea & Catherine O'Hara are geniuses. Truly.)
Andrea Martin, John Candy and Joe Flaherty are all brilliant in this!
RIP Big Jim McBob & Billy Sol Hurok. 😢😢😢
Aka Billy Sol Estes.
that is one super bit of performance from Ms. Martin.
Saw this the night it originally aired! God I miss this show!
William X. Lee i did too. NBC late night
LOVE SCTV. Having a good time revisiting the ol' greats.
when SCTV was the comedy king!! thanks for posting!
This less than four minute clip had more laughs than the entire 1981-85 Saturday Night Live stretch.
