    I am a father of two boys with Autism and I have to say this video makes me smile seeing your interaction as much as my own boys do. Wonderful. I am in Ontario, Canada, where our government has just cut off all children over 5 years out of IBI therapy, and have begun to fight to get our youngest the help he needs. Self-education is the key, and your video expresses that so well....thank you!

      Oh, no. I am saddeed to hear that Canada has an age restriction -- especially when studies prove that the human brain continues to develop after the age of 18. In the US, many insurance companies deny therapy coverage for kids with autism. I find it highly discriminatory and unfair. I wish you strength and love.

      Ahh this was eight years ago. I don’t think this is in the case of Québec. Because I am 26 now and had appropriate resources for my autism during my school and having lived in Ontario after Premier Kathleen Wynn I can assure you that is not longer the case when it comes to applied behavioural analysis and intense behavioural intervention but of course I never needed that. ironically she was liberal -and a lesbian- so I’m dumbfounded as to how she could allow that?

    I've seen this video numerous times now for a couple years. I work professionally for people with I/DD and I love the population. But this video touches my heart in a different way. I am in awe of the love Bill has for Chris. And although my circumstances aren't theirs, I think the unconditional love Bill has for his son is such an inspiration to fathers of children. Lots of dads "do their best." Bill is going above and beyond and still probably always feels like he could do more. Here I am, yelling at my child to quit running in the house and never explaining why that's a rule. Thanks Bill for sharing your journey. The love a father has for his children is exemplified in this video and it brings tears to my eyes.

      Many children, with autism, are physically and mentally ill. Doctors do not treat underlying illnesses (digestive ailments, immunity impairments, mitochondrial disorders) because these kids cannot communicate their problems. Can you imagine being locked in a world of silence and are not capable of expressing pain? Many parents have found that by treating gut issues alone helps children. Doctors need to get onboard and help these kids. They are being discarded by society.

      Daze, don't spill your pseudoscience here, digestive ailments ?? really? Neurological disorders, in the brain cerebral cortex.... nothing to do with digestion, or the immune system !

    • @mdaze9753
      @mdaze9753 7 лет назад +2

      LOL! "pseudoscience" ? Your comment is not only indicative of your ignorance but your prejudice. When you work with over 100 children (with autism) and acknowldege the FACT that 83% of them suffer from a form of entercolitis ... you can spew your dribble. Until then, kindly, shut up. Just because individuals - who have autism - cannot articulate their basic needs (hunger, thirst and pain) DOES NOT mean they do not suffer. Luckily, stool tests and GI scopes prove you WRONG. And there is NOTHING psuedoscience about that. You know what? I have run into narrowminded individuals like you before. YOU think you can recite the same bully lines as the pharmaceutical industry. Guess what? Parents, teachers and therapists are growing with every new diagnosis. We won't be brow beaten by your ignorance. You are nothing more than a mouth piece for the corrupt pharmaceutical industry. Your vile. Your ignorant. Your Digusting.
      You are nothing more than mindless sheep.
      Luckily - people who love and respect individuals with autism - care very little about your opinions.

    • @AndroidGuru13
      @AndroidGuru13 7 лет назад

      Autistic enterocolitis is the name of a nonexistent medical condition proposed by discredited British gastroenterologist Andrew Wakefield when he suggested a link between a number of common clinical symptoms and signs which he contended were distinctive to autism.[1] The existence of such an enterocolitis has been dismissed by experts as having "not been established".[2] Wakefield's now-retracted and fraudulent[3][4] report used inadequate controls and suppressed negative findings, and multiple attempts to replicate his results have been unsuccessful.[5]
      Shut the fuck up with your Pseudomedical diagnosis !!!

He has some speech, but for anyone outside of the family, it's hard to understand him.Yes,he can be violent--I can only imagine his frustration not being able to communicate with his family. My son used to cry every time I sneezed. He's doing a lot better since he started therapy a couple of years ago. Still hates public bathrooms though. He turns four soon and only says a few "want" words and "sissie," but that gives us a lot of hope that he can grow.

    AudioInklined- there is a great article about Chris and his family in Parents Magazine that can possibly answer some of your questions. www.parents.com/health/autism/parenting/autism-dont-ignore-my-son/
    Chris and his dad are best friends, and being someone's best friend certainly brings purpose. Plus he is someone’s grandson, son, and brother. They love him, and whenever you are loved, you have purpose and you enrich someone's life. That is quality of life. I bet if you asked other people who know Chris they would say he has quality of life, and he enriches their lives as well. Your understanding of "quality of life" is limited by your lack of understanding of the amazing joy which special needs child and adults bring into the lives of those around them. I don't

    I have a hard time understanding cases like this. when you don't send them to a home, and you choose to try to "raise" them, okay... they can never live a normal life. There is no quality of life really, because Chris lives in a different realm/world/reality. So Bill, how do you justify leaving Chris to the wolves of the world when you and your wife pass away? What of Chris then? You cannot cure him. What can you do for the guy to prepare him for the world at large? That's my question.

I was just wondering about what I had asked, but I now see "Bill" isn't he person behind the video here, and my questions will not ultimately be answered. I think it's important for the world to ask themselves these things about situations as unique as these.
