"What" not why. Because im on mobile. If you didnt know, timestamps in the description of videos dont work on mobile so someone ctrl c + v ing them is pretty helpful
From what I’ve grasped: •The original 2-D platformer games developed the “calming waltz” standard. •Super Mario Land was weird. •Remake games just remixed the original themes, obviously. •Every 3-D game broke the waltz rule. (Most of them don’t have a true underwater theme anyway. They usually have only one water level.) •New Super Mario Bros., the first 2-D platformer in years, returned to the underwater theme standard. •New Super Mario Bros. Wii did it RIGHT. It embodied the essence of an underwater Mario theme. It’s my favorite of all time. •Every New Super Mario Bros. game after it remixed that theme.
My favorite is probably the New Super Mario Bros. Wii theme. It’s calm, in 3/4 time, has watery instrumentals, it has the little “dingy-dingy-ding” in the background, it’s perfect. It’s so good, all the later New Super Mario Bros. games remixed it instead of writing a new theme.
12:46 Now this one has a GIGANTIC place in my heart, it still brings back the memories if made of my brother and my dad legit kill each other on accident. That's why I didn't want this decade to end, because of the joy I felt for the past 10 years.
Especially now that we’re in a new year, Nintendo really should consider, not only a Super Mario Maker 3, but adding (and both console versions - the 1993 SNES All-Stars remake, and the NES version) Super Mario Bros. 2 (where we’d now get to hear what the underwater theme would have sounded like, and in both console versions, of this game). As I keep saying, Super Mario Bros. 2 technically, is, Mario history.
NSMB Underwater: A bahless land NSMBW Underwater: Still no bahs, and it’s even better now NSMB2 Underwater: We’ve established a pleasant and bah-free standard theme NSMBU Underwater: You has to screw it up. You broke the laws of bahs.
The original Super Mario 1 and 3 will always be the most memorable, Super Mario Land was okay too and Super Mario World was a nice variant on the normal theme but the rest get pretty boring and uninspired really. They don't feel like theyre trying anymore after the original NES. Once they can do more with the sounds they actually feel like they do less. The themes become very generic and homogenised. When they were restricted to 8 and 16 bit sound they had to try harder to make catchy tunes.
Can you do an evolution just with the SMB Underwater Themes? Some Title Titles also have the Underwater Melody, like The Lost Levels Title Theme from All-Stars.

That's why I didn't want this decade to end, because of the joy I felt for the past 10 years.

SML truly doesn't fit as an underwater theme.
