Hi Scott, your videos of backtracks with Stagetrax 3 are awesome and I learnt so much from it. I have a question. If I connect the iPad (with Stagetrax) to the Behringer Mixer, through the USB B connection going in the mixer, would not I get all the 8 out from Stagetarx into the 8 inputs of Behringer mixer? I am planning to buy such one mixer so your inout would be useful. Thanks for making such great guiding content.

Hi Scott, thanks for the heloful video! I play in a band where we all all have IEMs and personalised monitor mix groups from an X-Air 18 that we can mix on-the-fly via our iPhones on stage. We like to use one Snapshot only for the entire show, so that our on-the-fly changes stay the same from song to song wihtout resetting (i.e., I decide I need less guitar in my ears for the rest of the night, so I can adjust the fader in my mix once and it will stay there until the end of the show). However, we swap between instruments, and would love the ability for our B-Beat to send a MIDI message that mutes or unmutes a standardised (say 10db) gain boost or reduction via a plugin insert on the channel strip of the instrument in our personalised mix groups only. That way we can hear what we are playing a bit better in our ears without changing the output level of the instrument going to FOH, and without changing the fader of the instrument in our individual mix groups. The idea is that if I decide I need less of the guitar tonight, I can adjust the fader in my individual mix and it will stay there for the entire show, but the B-Beat will still be sending MIDI messages for the gain boost / reduction to toggle on or off when I am at (or not at) the guitar - without resetting that change to the fader I just made to have less of the guitar tonight. Therefore, do you know if B-Beat could be used to send MIDI messages that mute / un-mute plugins on a channel strip within an individual's IEM mix group on the X-Air? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Cheers, Charlie
Thanks so much. Do you know (or can you figure out) if it's possible to control send levels? We want to use the XR12 as sub mixer for our keyboard player. And while we want to sum his 4 stereo keyboards into a stereo mix for our FOH, our keyboard player wants to independantly set the volumes of his keyboards in his in-ears. So: Main L/R goes to our FOH. Aux 1 is going to his InEar transmitter. So we want to control the channels send level to Aux 1 for all 4 stereo channels. Do you know if that's possible?
Great idea. I sometimes add the 4th Fx setting on the Xair to be an extreme delay for some background vocals and in reggae songs, but I have to use the faders while playing to do it which isn't ideal for a guitarist. This would be a great way to toggle that effect.
It’s mostly getting everything balanced ahead of time and knowing when to boost for solos and when to back away from the mic for backups and when to sing for leads
As I see, there is no option to control the volume faders on the output buses(1-6 monitor outputs), only on the master output can change the volume levels. Am I wrong or not?

Love your content and presentation style, Scott. This particular one seems "cool, but of limited value". The most compelling reasons seem to be for turning on and off the effects busses, as others have mentioned. But the snapshot change seems downright dangerous! Having mute groups on some footswitches might be an interesting idea - but again - limited use and/or value. Channel faders..... Why? The only thing I can think of is maybe some fader automation for some theatric, fade in and out of some loop or atmospheric effect - but you'd need a sequencer, too. Controlling channel panning via MIDI seems like just ridiculously unnecessary. This is not a judgement of how you presented what was available - but more of a criticism of the limitations of Behringer's MIDI implementation for their mixers. I think I would like more utility functions / macros - like the ability to set all the channels on an AUX bus mix to unity and the bus master to NIL with one click.
Agreed completely. That’s why I chose to focus more on muting, which is the only real way I would and do use this personally 👍 but, people definitely will find use out of it for other things too, I’m sure!
On a tribute show I have the Multitracker app sending MIDI to my Helix to load presets, and the Helix subsequently sends MIDI to the XR18 to load a snapshot for that song, just for a rough mix starting point. Delay times are already set that way, ballads start off with more a little reverb on the vocals, etc. If used judiciously, it can work as virtual FOH guy in a pinch. I also have a single button in each of my Helix presets for the show devoted to muting the FX sends, so at the end of the song the singer can talk to the audience without all the “sauce” on the vox. I have the FX sends on a mute group for this. There are a few functions like that which can be done via MIDI but are NOT in the Behringer MIDI implementation manual. I found a few extra functions through trial and error.

Thanks for the video, Scott.
Oh interesting, I thought that was only on the x32. That’s cool that it accepts midi over usb as well. Thanks for commenting!
@@ScottUhlMusic for anyone reading: M/X32 can ONLY send and receive midi. To my frustration, there are no settings in the 32 that will allow it to pass-thru midi. One aspect that’s actually better/more flexible in the 18 over the 32.
is there a midiMap File for XR18?
MIDI map file?
@@ScottUhlMusic yes, file or picture or a table of midi mapping for behringer XR. Cuz you have said a bit about midi map, but is that all? Can we control fx by midi in? Or mute groups?
@@Hellemmm this is all I was able to figure out since there wasn’t any documentation that I’ve found on the topic. I figured this out with trial and error
@@ScottUhlMusic great job!
Always so inspiring! Love your videos
Thank you!
Thanks another very useful video. I can see using this technique within the click/backing track to set vocal effects at the appropriate moment... that would help our band quite a bit.
Glad to help!
