  • OK so I finally spent the money and did a rather large upgrade to the exhaust. This video shows a step by step install of the FMF Mega Bomb header, the FMF Powercore 4, and the 12 Oclock labs EXUP emulator on a 2016 WR250R. The EXUP emulator you need to get otherwise you will have error codes on from your computer. The EXUP emulator is a plug and play that fools your computer is all. I have to say I love this exhaust. It is quite loud tho. After riding it, I feel there is a bit of difference but I feel like the fuel commander needs to be adjusted for the acceleration, and full throttle modes. Stay tuned for the vid on tuning your fuel commander. The Stock exhaust also weighs substantially more then the FMF pipes. Otherwise I am quite happy. For questions or comments please leave below. Please like, share and subscribe. Thanks for watching.

      Minimal notice in power compared to installing a fuel controller or a power commander. Gearing and fuel controller made the bike feel allot more torquey compared to the exhaust.

    • @bigair0176
      @bigair0176  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks Jorge. I definitely think the power commander mod was the most improvement so far. A lot of people do the power commander with the exhaust. But overall it is definite improvement over stock. I have to program my power commander as I feel it could pull harder at mid range to max rpm. The lower end torque is noticeable though. The powercore 4 is very loud. I wasn't expecting it to be that loud. But it doesn't sound like a sewing machine anymore haha. I love how there is no more jerkiness in the throttle anymore. The whole bike is a lot smoother to ride with all of the smog crap removed. My next mod I will be doing will be a 47 tooth rear sprocket. The 43 doesn't do a power wheelie, like my XR400 did hehe.

    Great video. I am still debating on if I will do exaust/intake/tuner or not. Some say the EXUP system adds low end torque, how does the low end torque now feel since the EXUP is eliminated, more, less, same etc....

    • @bigair0176
      @bigair0176  6 лет назад +3

      AJourneyOfYourSoul I would say if you do the power commander and air filter you gain the snappy torque you are probably looking for. I maybe gained a little more torque with the exhaust. But I think I need to tune my fuel commander to get some more out of it. But if your looking for torque I think a 47 or 48 rear sprocket will help out in the low end. With the 43 tooth it’s really tall and easy to do 120km+. But I want the torque and don’t care about top speed. That will be my next mod. Just have to decide on chain size which I think will be a regular 112link chain. But power commander and air filter was worth the upgrade for sure. Exhaust I just have to tune up better. I’ll keep ya posted

    I have the same setup on my 2018 WR250R except i have the Powerbomb header with the Powercore 4. When you start your bike and it's idle and sometimes when you give it gas throughout certain RPM ranges (like brapping it), do you hear what sounds like a vibrating sheet metal sound? i have ran mine and used gloves and tried to push and hold on things to see if it goes away and it doesn't. It's not a full time sound, just various revs and idle sometimes. I noticed its close to touching the bike so i'm going to loosen and see if I can get it further away. Nothing seems to rattle when its off and i knock on stuff with my hand. I didn't know if maybe it's because i didn't install the spark arrestor and i'm just hearing some baby pop sounds. This pipe is loud!!!! I love giving it hell to let cars know i'm near them!

    • @bigair0176
      @bigair0176  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks Jason for the Comment. I don't have and sheet metal vibrating sounds. I definitely noticed my skid plate resonates and sometimes makes a tinny sound bit no vibration. I would suggest loosening all the bolts on the whole exhaust, and retighten them starting from the header bolts. Th instructions said to start at the header bolts so everything lined up properly especially the header to the head. I didn't use any silicone either with this install. I recheck my bolts often. I love this exhaust it certainly is loud tho. The spark arrester made it a bit quieter. not much tho. Hope the tip helps. Cheers

    • @jasunto
      @jasunto 6 лет назад +2

      Bigair01 ok, so I need to go for a ride to be for sure, but loosening all exhaust bolts and moving silencer back a hair got it off the passenger peg area. I also did notice that since the exhaust pulses such a great amount of air on each exhaust “puff”, it does make a kind of air disturbance sound in the air 3 feet or so behind the bike. I hope this was a contact vibration and that I just fixed it. I did use very high temp gasket maker when sealing slip fit joint and where headed slid into cylinder. Also trying spark arrestor vs none.

    • @bigair0176

    I'm wondering how much better performance you got? Was it very noticeable?

    • @bigair0176
      @bigair0176  4 года назад +3

      Jamin Clardy the exhaust upgrade was minimal for performance compared to the fuel controller upgrade. I would say the exhaust just helped unclog the bike and made it a crisper power delivery meaning it wasn’t so jerky when you got on and off the throttle. I’m glad I did it for sure just wasn’t as huge a gain as you would think. I think you notice it, was just minimal. If it’s about money then do the fuel controller first. I did tho have to tune my fuel controller after I did my exhaust so it does give a little. Sounds way better then the stock sewing machine too. Hope that is helpful. Cheers

      My pipe never had any o2 sensor on the pipe. The euro version WR250R I guess has the O2 sensor. But I was reading on thumpertalk that guys were either having a bung welded in to thread in the o2 sensor on the new pipe. But I also read guys were leaving it unhooked and just tucked it away. Most of the posts said leaving it unhooked didn’t cause an error code. So my suggestion would be to tuck the wiring up out of the way, or have a welding shop weld in a stainless steel bung if it causes errors in your computer. My exhaust never had an O2 sensor to worry about. Hope this was helpful.

I like the power vs my old YZ250F, but it certainly has EFI issues so the Vortex ECU with the Honda is must! It is very "jerky" throttled and also stalled on me twice in a short ride. So that is $700-800 on top of the price of the bike. So $1500 or so for exhaust and ECU. WR250R is less money and maintenance (from what I hear). I would do exhaust on the WR250R also....didn't know if the stock ECU will also cause bad popping.

      The wr250r is lean from factory. That’s what usually causes the popping and backfiring in most bikes. The wr250r is no different. The wr250r just need a pcv or a fuel controller to add more fuel especially if you unclog the thing by putting exhaust and removing emmisions. It feels like a sewing machine stock but feels like it likes to rev once you do all the mods. I haven’t run the crf450l yet so not sure how much better it could be. I like the weight of the wr250r it feels very nimble. I did a review on my channel on all my mods plus a vid on things I don’t like about the wr250r. I think in total I have about 30 vids on the wr250r

      @@bigair0176 what's a good fuel controller cost?

      Jesse mine cost like 220 if memory serves me right. A dyno jet pcv is more money for sure. I bought a wiseco fuel controller.

    Do we need to put the bike on dyno?

      Dead battery or low battery? Do you have a fuel controller?

      @@bigair0176 i only did the slip on. Plan on getting a fuel controller once i do the header and intake. Its been cold by me in Wisconsin and i went back over everything and made sure all my connections were good. I gave it some gas when trying to start it again and it fired up. Got it figured out. Thanks though. Appreciate the response and the video. 👍👍

      @@smallbobcat08o.g.47 good to hear. I would totally recommend the fuel controller of some kind. Fuel and gearing were the most dramatic increase in power output and torque. I’m sure you have seen a few of my vids already. I have about 30+ vids on mods I have done to mine. I will eventually have some more vids on my wr250r. Just waiting on availability of parts to be easier to purchase. Cheers. Hope you like the slip on.

    do you think it will be useful for a wr450f

      Exhausts for most part provide minimal performance upgrades. They will obviously sound better and allow for the motor to breathe better. That’s about it tho.

    Fyi if you don't want to pay the $50 for the 12 labs emulator. You could pay $0.50 for 7.5K resistor
    Wire it to the black and red and white and red wires.

      Honestly it is a little bit compared to the fuel controller. What it does the most is get rid of the jerkiness when you let off the throttle, because of the removal of the smog shit. Check out my 27 vids on all the mods I have done to this bike. Don't forget to subscribe!. Hope that is helpful. Cheers

      I know right. I guess some people like it quieter but I would rather be heard as well as seen on the road. Plus it sounds like a real bike with the fmf setup. Hehe. Oh well to each their own right.
