OMG now I know what that little gizmo is for and I can do buttonholes without a fancy foot. My Dad gave me my mothers 50 yr old Frister and Rossman cub and its a dream machine so I am learning. Happy days

Thanks for this. I'm in Canada and bought a kenmore sewing machine. I love it but...for some reason I either lost the buttonholer foot or never got it. Sears went out of business here and now there is no way to get any of the accessories. A new machine is out of the question so Im very glad I found this video.
Hi Tari, just read your comment and felt like leaving you a piece of info that I got after buying a Kenmore sweing machine. The store I used to take my Kenmore vacuum (which kinda stopped existing..lol) informed me that they still can fix sweing machines. ;)

Wow! Thank you for the video. For some reason I am never able to use the bottom hole attachment. Sewing machines are all different, just try to get the right size of zig zag. I did mine stich length 0. stich selection zig zag. stich width 1. Practice few first and you will see how easy it is! Thanks again.

This looks like a Singer slant-foot machine. On my 401a I would set the stitch dial to BL, width 3 and stitch length into the "fine" area (roughly 25 to 30 stiches per inch) to get a similar looking finished product.
On any machine that has a zigzag stitch you'll want to use a medium-width zig and a stitch that's short enough that the stitches almost overlap each other.

What is this foot
Honestly saved a whole project with this one. Buttonhole attachment on my machine just wasn't doing what I needed it to (read: a darned thing to save itself). When all hope was lost, a quick search and a close look at what little work I got the buttonholer to do and now I have the answer

I would go over it again to make the stitch stronger but I will definitely use this
i was thinking i would do it like she did, and then go back over it again to oth make it stronger and to make it look better as having raw edges ofthe material like that just looked off to me.
My sewing machine doesn't have just a back and forth stitch...
